'19 GA WR Jerrod Means (Pitt signee)

Listen guys, I don’t careif he is a 1 star, 2 star, or a 10 star. I have a feeling our wide receivers better step up, or this guy with his speed and great hands that he has will be starting. You can write down the time and date of this comment. He may just be on the field a lot this year catching footballs to prove everyone wrong.👀🤘👍🍊🍊

Need our QB to let go of the football for that to happen....

I'm sure (and hope) there are different scouting structures for real programs vs the retail sites, my only qualm is why the asst player personnel guy had to come out and fib about knowing about this kid's ranking on the retail sites. It's disingenuous to act like they didn't know the kid was rated where he is on the retail sites. With that said, you're right it really doesn't matter - I guess I just find it interesting that the player personnel staff must feel a little bit nervous about fan reaction for taking a guy rated low on the retail sites (enough so that he would come out publicly on twitter with a fib about not knowing about the guy's rating). If it were me in his shoes, and I felt the need to come out publicly about this situation, I would have said "The player personnel staff feels like we got a real steal with Means based on where the retail sites have him graded, as our scouting evaluation put him very very high on our board and we're thrilled we landed him." That's a much better narrative than pretending like you never look at the retail sites -- I think that makes them look lazy. JMO.

In any event, I'm real excited about this kid.
Ignorant

Know that he was recruited by Coach David Johnson and approved by Coach Jeremy Pruitt.

I hope he works out, but fact is the WR recruiting has been unimpressive from a rankings perspective. They weren’t close on any game changing WRs.

That’s reality.

Guessing you haven't watched Keyton's film at all. Good chance he's vying for that 5th star if he doesn't get hurt mid-season. Was tearing it up before the injury.

Not to split hairs but 11.68? Willie Gault ran a 10.10. World record 9.58. A difference of 1 second in 100m is an eternity.
Happy we got a quality player but that time doesn't add up.

Willie Gault was a world class athlete, an Olympic Gold Medalist, one of the fastest WRs in UT history. But yeah, I think a kid who can run a 4.44/40 could do better than 11.68 in the 100m. Those two numbers together seem a little puzzling to me.

No.

Remel Keyton is a US Army All-American.

And quite possibly the top WR in GA pre-injury. Yes even better than Haslewood/ Blaylock

Looked to see who you were quoting. I see it was catbone, the #1 biggest loser on this board. I'd rather be locked in an elevator for a few hours with Bruin than have to read Catbones posts on VN. Don't know how you guys do it. Nothing but negative, woe is me, eeyore pathetic existence. TBH, surprised that dude hasn't jumped in front of a bus by now. What a pathetic loser. smh

I wasn't going to say that.

Dude you need to get in touch with reality. Tennessee had the Hazelwood kid on campus numerous times. Came down to Ellis' top two. Still in it for Pickens and Henderson both highly rated receivers. And, signed Keyton who some believe is a better long term prospect than Hazelwood. I love Means' speed ... I think we'll be ok at receiver. More worried about defensive end

Well, CJP has seen enough to offer him and sign him....
CJP has a plan and you have no choice but to accept it and/or move on to your next complaint....
He is signed, sealed and delivered....
So go back to the Arm Chair and watch/Learn.....
IOW, your evaluation does not matter....

Yeah, that Rivals top 250 guy Keyton is a bum. Everyone seems to keep forgetting about this kid when they make asinine statements about the WRs we brought in.

I've seen a guy run 4.45

and then lose in the 100m.

He ran 11.58.... But he slowed down because he had no chance of winning.
Which wasn't a good showing of being a competitor.

We'll see how good he is soon.
I think people have every right to be skeptical about this pick.

I really like his teammate's tape! Dayton Wade has an offer from App State, and those dudes always have WRs that can run!
He is 3 star...not ranked at all in GA. But I would not be disappointed if he somehow became a Vol.

I can believe he is 4.4 from the film.
And that doesnt mean he will be successful...

But my question is, how or why was he not even the most productive WR on his high school team??

His teammate (Wade) is 6'0" 180 and runs 4.37... And there is plenty of film with him haha. And it looks really good.
Most of the film out for him is as a safety/running qb. Im not sure but it looks like he moved to wr this year and also gained a lot of size.

Maybe Pruitt not only liked this kid but also wanted to show he is willing to take players that will come and camp.

From what I’d heard the staff prioritizes kids who come to camp. And that’s what happened with a couple of the NPA kids who didn’t come this summer. They didn’t want to camp here and the staff moved on to other players.

That should be more apparent as the staff gains longevity.

That was from his sophomore year.

He has some more current film, i posted earlier in this thread

4.44 timed at TN.
Also remember people touting Jalen Hurd’s laser timed 4.37 from HighSchool....turned out he’s a 4.65-4.7 guy who got chased down by SEC linebackers.

Just not buying that a kid with Means’ size is a legit 4.4 guy....and literally no program of note wanted him.

He may turn out to be an outstanding player, but as it stands today, he was a kid we desperately settled for after missing on several other WRs much higher on the board.
