'24 GA WR Mike Matthews (Tennessee)

Matthews had 7 receptions for 136 yards & 3 TDs last night, including a 72-yard score, as Parkview beat South Gwinnett, 34-20.
Said this in the Peyton Lewis thread, but same applies to Matthews:

I think many of our own fans on this site are sleeping on this recruiting class as a whole. We have low key gotten commitments from some really, really elite players.

We keep filling the cupboards with players like this and we will be sustaining winning football year in and year out -

I think that’s yet another significant difference between Heupel and his predecessors- his recruiting is actually gaining traction and momentum - look at the freaking list of ‘25 STUDS coming to the game tonight. I feel like at this point in Dooley, Butch, or Pruitt, the writing was on the wall and recruiting was starting to stagnate or tank.

“As a commit, you could definitely feel the emotion out here tonight,” Matthews said. “Everybody knows why you are there and everybody knows that you are committed and it brings a different type of intensity to the game. So just to have that around really just shows me how the community loves me here. It was a great atmosphere tonight.”
“Tonight, I saw a lot of explosive plays and opportunities,” Matthews said of. “A lot of receivers got the ball. They have to catch the ball in space and make big plays. That is what they were doing all game, and they were able to come out on top because of that.”
“It was really just me doing them the way that everybody did for me,” he said of this. “Boo was really the one who talked to me and helped bring me in, so it was my turn to do that. I just tried to tell them to not miss this opportunity. It is a special place here, and I truly believe that. I want everybody to know that and have an opportunity here.”
Other programs would love to get him campus and try to shake things up, but he is not interested in anything other than the Vols. He plans to return to Tennessee for as many game days as possible this fall. “I am committed to Tennessee. It is that simple,” Matthews said of this.

staff can't close though....

We will be young next year but extremely talented. Probably the most talented team since Heup arrived.

QB - 5* (Nico)
RB - Sampson, Seldon (yikes)
WR - Squirrel, Mathew’s, Webb, Staley, etc.
TE - Davis

DL - Joseph, Pearce, Hobbs, West, Herring, etc (edges are scary good)
LB - Telander, Carter, Smith (sophomores)
DB - Lots of young talent flying around (Mathew, Gibson, Thomas, Turrentine, etc.)

the other Herring and Perry will show up at LB.
I think Norman Lott has another year I am pretty sure.
and I would think that Bru comes back if he can with an injury question.

Small?
Thornton?
Keyton?
A good amount of guys on defense could come back

Or is this just assuming all leave?

Herring at LB has been solid and should be the play caller on D next year. We need to go get OL help.

Coaching staff equally excited about Weathersby if not for injury he was going to play this year. In CHRIST Alone

Plain and simple. We have a ton of talent next season. We just have to develop it all in the off-season. I do think we need a portal QB to compete with Nico, some portal offensive linemen, and possibly a couple more positions. I think next year could be a surprisingly good year if our players develop the way they should.

I don’t think Perry ever contributes here with all the young talent. They are a different level. But I would love for him to prove me wrong.

No mention of any OL and that may really be the fly in the ointment with the 2024 team.

He blocked a punt as a freshman. if he keeps making special teams contributions I wouldn't rule out a Beasely type growth from his production as he gets older.

The freshmen have already over taken him and I don’t think they are going to get worse. We shall see!

You forgot about Khalifa Keith at RB. We will be fine. Castles will be back I think as well.
