Of course recruiting matters, we had a top 10 class last year and we will again this year when it’s all said and done. It may take another year or 2 to have a 1st or 2nd place class, good grief Heupel is just in his 3rd season. Went 11-2 and beat Bama,LSU and Florida last year. Had a top 10 class last year and is primed for another one. But here we are saying he isn’t getting it done fast enough. I have no doubt we will get it done on the field in 23. Lots of time between now and signing day, Tennessee is going to do just fine. This staff is building a championship program!!!!! GBOYes but recruiting does matter. You need both to win it all. You gotta finish top 10 year in and year out and most National champions are consistently top 5 iirc.
We will win a national championship before winning a recruiting title. Think Clemson (which is who we used to be and are taking our spot in CFB back currently).Of course recruiting matters, we had a top 10 class last year and we will again this year when it’s all said and done. Nah, not what I said at all. Tennessee is also at a slight disadvantage in terms of recruiting base compared to some of the powerhouses. I don’t see us ever consistently getting a top 2 or 3 class because of that in the current landscape - no matter the coach. We might see us cycle up into a top 2-3 class every 3-4 years though with the right crop of instate talent.Of course recruiting matters, we had a top 10 class last year and we will again this year when it’s all said and done. The geographical argument is silly. It's not like we're on the dark side of the moon from the recruiting hotspots. Knoxville is a day-drive to over 50% of the country. Distance isn't that big a deal to kids and families who have to fly to a campus anyway, because the flight difference from any other SEC school would only be a couple hours, max.Nah, not what I said at all. Fringe top 10 classes can get it done but they are the outliers like Clemson/Auburn.
College Football Recruiting: How last 10 national champions fared on recruiting trail
I don't think its silly. Its why Florida can have a terrible product and land a top 5 class with a decent recruiting staff. Same with Texas/USC/etc. But no, we aren't Nebraska in terms of being in a place void of talent. We just don't have the same luxuries that several schools do with footprint (on the bright side is has been steadily improving over the last 20 years - hopefully, that can continue). The geographical argument is silly. Tennessee is about to start rolling big-time and these excuses for why we weren't good for years are going to be exposed for what they are - excuses, not real, truthful reasons. When we're good, the best athletes come from all over to play here. . . everything points to us having a solid run to the top and it's being built to last a long time.
