'24 GA WR Mike Matthews (Tennessee)

Texas high school talent is overrated. Good players overall but not what they’re ranked as usually

Over ranked?

Case Keemun - 2*
Nick Foles - 3*
Drew Brees - 4*
Emmanuel Sanders - 2*
Ryan Tannehill - 3*
Courtland Sutton - 3*
Robert Griffin - 4*
Kyler Murray - 4*
Con Miller - 4*
Zay Jones - 2*
Russell Okung - 3*
Mike Evans - 3*
Mason Crosby - 3*
Matthew Stanford - 5*
Josh Gordon - 3*
Andrew Luck - 4*
Andy Dalton - 3*
Baker Mayfield - 3*
Cole Beasley - 2*
Adrian Peterson - 5*
Jason Peters - 4*
Aqib Talib - 2*
Danny Amendola - 3*
Earl Thomas - 4*
Patrick Mahomes - 3*
Johnny Manziel - 3*

Just a few who either lived up to their ranking or many who surpassed it. Now on the flip side, I could probably list just as many who did not pan out. Texas HS football is not unlike any other states’ players. Some exceed, some play to expectations, and some flop.

To make the highlighted part of your statement is foolish. It just seems Texas has more flops than others due to the sheer numbers. The same can be said for those who were underrated and exceeded expectations.

Another player on our current team I feel like is better served on defense is Bru. I think he would be a dynamic S but he’s always been focused on offense. Both 5stars coming out of High School.
When Bru was being recruited to play defense out of high school, it was as an EDGE. Dude is not a safety.

Mike Matthews has narrowed it down to 4 schools. From least likely, to most likely:

USC: Won't or shouldn't attend there until he's unhappy with he initially lands so he mentions them as a viable option for transfer portal should he need that for some reason.

UGA: Mike knows and has mentioned UGA is on a mission to get a 3rd championship and they won't focus their offense around him enough because they can get another championship without focusing on WRs because they've already done it twice.

Clemson: Great football school that will get him the ball a LOT, but Dabo is big on 'family' and Mike doesn't plan on sticking around for 4 years.

Tennessee: Best fit for Mike because Tennessee has committed to a passing, wide open offense which means Mike will get a LOT of passing attempts as a freshman.

Misinformed. We run more than we pass. He's coming here, but that's not why.

Direct quote, “Relationships are the biggest thing at Tennessee. The air-raid offense means I’m getting the ball a lot and of course I want to make plays in college. It feels like a great opportunity and I love the coaching staff. Everyone buys into me, everyone’s a family and it’s big to have people like that on the team.”

Football people at large still don’t fully understand the veer & shoot offensive scheme. And Heupel has his own twists that might as well be the Heup & shoot. It feels like we are a vertical air raid offense until you look closer And see that we run more than pass. In fact broke all time school rushing touchdown records set in 1951. I definitely don’t have a full grasp on it yet & luckily doesn’t seem like opposing DC’s do either 😂

It's not really an air raid offense though, I think people use that colloquially to just mean "we throw bombs" which of course, we do. So he WILL be getting the ball a lot...but not in an air raid offense lol
