'19 GA WR Ramel Keyton (Tennessee signee)

TENNESSEE

“Keyton has liked Tennessee for three years. He was a priority under the previous coaching staff with Butch Jones, and nothing really changed when Jeremy Pruitt took over in December. The Vols have targeted Keyton as their vertical threat for the 2019 class, believing he has the length and speed to get behind defenses. Keyton is high on new wideouts coach David Johnson, but a subtle key in his recruitment has been a pair of Tennessee ties to his high school.

“Vols grad assistant Caleb Cox played at Marietta High (Ga.) and is a holdover from Jones’ staff. He’s been in Keyton’s ear for over the past two seasons and was a familiar face during the coaching transition. Similarly, former Vols wideout Derrick Tinsley, who is on staff at Marietta, has talked up Tennessee to Keyton for three years.

“Overall, the four-star receiver has a comfort level around Tennessee’s program that no other school can match.” – Jesse Simonton, Volquest.com

For two staffs in a row to be so high on this kid, that’s high praise and validation that his abilities transcend offensive systems.

Morris, Brown, and Keyton all in a two week period. I wonder if we might get some out of left field type of commitment later this month just due to the momentum and attention our class is starting to build?

You don't think UGA would have taken JJ Peterson or Wanya Morris if they said, "Kirbs, I'm ready to commit to the G!"?

I was responding to a particular post, not criticizing. It doesn't look like we have won any head to head with Kirby yet over somebody both coaches really want...YET.

Define really want? If Keyton axed UGA, ain't ish Kirbs can do about. Again, I sure Kirby would've liked to have Morris and Keaton.

And I was responding to your response. Never said you were criticizing. I just think you are wrong. I think UGA would have taken a commitment from either Morris or Peterson if they called to offer it to them. Neither just happened to have UGA as a finalist despite having offers.

It sounds like what you are saying is that we haven't won any battles head-to-head against UGA in which they were a legitimate threat, and that would be true, perhaps. Not our fault that Morris and Peterson eliminated the Dawgs earlier on in the process. We beat Bama in the end for Peterson and Auburn for Morris, but both had UGA offers, so in effect we beat them too.

And because he’s from Tennessee, we’re not including Alontae. Smart tried to strongarm a LOI from him.

Look I'm not saying Pruitt can't, I'm just saying he hasn't yet won a battle against Kirbs like he did against Auburn for Morris. That is not stupid, it happens to be the truth.

Morris had 26 other offers. We beat 26 teams for him, UGA included. It came down to Auburn and Tennessee, but that was Morris' choice, not UGA's. As I said, if he were to call Kirby and say he wanted to commit, he'd take him.

What you seem to be implying would only apply to a kid who was, by his own choice, down to UGA and TN as his final two. Say a kid like Quay Walker. In that case, you may be correct. But kids like Morris and Peterson had UGA as an option, so Tennessee beat Kirby out for those two...along with Saban, Swinney, Malzahn, and others.
