It’s the fact he’s a freshman and the staff doesnt play true freshmen unless they have to. Guarantee that Boo Carter wouldn’t have seen the field, except in blowouts, if Thomas didnt get hurt preseasonMM has been here since bowl practices, I’m not buying the don’t know the playbook narrative. He sure looked like he knew it in the Spring Game the way he abused Jordan Matthews.
False narrative. They will play the players that they think give them the best chance to win. They do not have some stupid blanket policy to not play freshman unless forced to do so. The players "force" them to play them because they earn a spot on the field. The reality is that the physical and mental requirements to play high level SEC football are really, really high. If the coaches honestly thought that they could still run and execute everything they wanted to run and that MM would consistently execute better than a WR that is currently playing them they would play him. Its honestly that simple. What is honestly ridiculous is fans that have seen nothing from him other than high school highlights and a controlled practice scrimmage in the Orange & White game that think they know that he (A) is able to run and execute everything we are trying to run, we have no clue if that is true and (B) that he would consistently execute better than the WRs that are currently playing. I get that it is low hanging fruit when a player is not performing to want to assume the guy not playing would perform better. It’s the fact he’s a freshman and the staff doesnt play true freshmen unless they have to. MM just moves different than the others. It’s very noticeable that he has better twitch, body control and speed. And judging from his touchdown his vertical is insane. Nimrod doesn’t look SEC level, and the others have just been ok. Matthews moves around like those LSU/Ohio state WRs have looked in the past.False narrative. I would agree that all of that might be true. That is why we pushed so hard to recruit him. Those are all reasons why he could end up being a very good WR at some point. None of that has anything to do with whether or not we can run all of our offense with him on the field and that he will translate that athletic ability into execution and production on the field against an SEC defense right now. I remember DE Kongbo. We could say all those same things about him in terms of the way he moved, his athletic ability. But it translated into basically zero actual production on the field. The game is just not that simple. Its not a track and field event. The reason he is not playing more snaps is not because the coaches refuse to play a freshman.MM just moves different than the others. I wouldn’t use the word refuse, but he’s a little biased towards upperclassmen. Peyton Lewis and Jordan Ross are others who need more reps, Nico could’ve used more reps last season also. D Samp should’ve played over Jabari Small more as well.I would agree that all of that might be true. That is why we pushed so hard to recruit him. I have seen some players are gamers. It is a fact. So, the coaches are rightful in what they are seeing but in a game, it is a different player. Hope he gets more run and see if he produces.False narrative. They will play the players that they think give them the best chance to win. Who would you say should get less reps? Sampson and Bishop have been great. The DL has been playing lights out and Ross probably needs to earn the trust of the coaching staff. His roughing the punter penalty against Arkansas was costly and just an example of the mistakes young players make. We’ve been in battles the last few weeks and they’ve leaned on the guys they trust. I think both are great talents with NFL futures but playing them more means someone else is losing minutesI wouldn’t use the word refuse, but he’s a little biased towards upperclassmen. I’d see if I could get PLew in space on a screen and put his 10.6 100m speed to use. Ross could get a few of Josephs snaps, he’s good against the run and pedestrian in pass rush IMO.Who would you say should get less reps? Sampson and Bishop have been great. While I get what you are saying, it seems this coaching staff is pretty good at reloading who is ready to play. Most of us questioned why they didn’t play Nico more last year. Now we know why they didn’t. He wasn’t ready.MM just moves different than the others. It’s very noticeable that he has better twitch, body control and speed. Then why isn’t he on the field more?? I won’t be surprised if he’s gone after this yearMM just moves different than the others. It’s very noticeable that he has better twitch, body control and speed.
