'25 GA WR Travis Smith (Tennessee)

This is the one that concerns me most.

Still, still having difficulty landing, and or
keeping premier WR AND RB talent, relative to our record and offensive production historically.

Gotta hang on to this guy, absolute difference maker.
We literally signed 2 top 100 WR's last recruiting cycle. What are you talking about?

I don't think this guy is a flip risk

Yes, edited after going back and seeing final 247 rankings. Either way, kid is a stud.

Who knows maybe he's going down there to see us?
I could be thinking of the wrong guy, but I'm pretty sure AP said earlier on in the week he's going pretty much just to watch the game. Sometimes kids go on visits just because it's a big game. Again, I'm not really worried

We’ve not had any trouble landing WR talent ranked even higher than Smith

Cunningham, Ffrench, Jefferson, Wingo, Williams, and Coleman come to mind.

Again, happy with what we did get. Specifically Wingo and Williams come to mind which I believe we were high up their lists.

To me WR has been a disappointment this year relative to the pre season hype. Seeing what those two have been able to do is impressive.

Ole Miss, Texas, and even Mizzou have really solid WR's. Its impressive to see. Makes their QB's jobs easier.

They have def been disappointing relative to the preseason hype. They were billed as some great WR unit the entire offseason and they clearly are not.

A fully healthy Thornton this year likely has better numbers than any Mizzou WR. Mizzou’s 3rd WR has 235 yards. We have 4 WRs with more yards.

Wease has 552 yards and 3 TDs (13.5 avg)
Burden has 505 yards and 4 TDs (11.2 avg)

Thornton has 505 yards and 4 TDs (25.3 avg).

Texas best WR is a TE.

I’ve had issues with this group since last year. There’s just no one that’s a complete guy that’s ready on this team currently. Bru is about the most dependable guy. The others are consistently inconsistent.

I did the top 4 receivers at each school and added their receiving yards together…here’s how each school placed in the SEC (I did NOT include TEs)

We are 10th….that’s very ******. Yes a healthy Thornton would bump us up a couple spots, but the other side to that argument is, if he wasn’t here, our unit would place even lower, which again sucks. Having one receiver be our saving grace isn’t a recipe for success.

Looks like there are tiers and we are on the third tier with the 5-11 teams. It's not what we are use to but I think we have seen tangible improvements in the last 8 quarters Nico has played. We have managed to win games as he has grown as a player which is a good sign.

That’s a fair point, our unit, offense, etc. as a whole has been clicking more the last couple games.

I’ll be curious to see where the unit finishes. Should be able to move up a couple spots after UTEP and Vandy. Hopefully he goes off this weekend for 300 against UGA and all of our WRs eat.

Agree but also how many downfield passes has Heup schemed up that Nico missed this season that would’ve been big yards? The WR numbers aren’t all on the WRs.

And I totally agree. Like I said in a previous post, the offense had been clicking a lot better the last couple games. I’ll be curious to see where we end up.

Should be able to put up big numbers against UTEP and hopefully Vandy.

Some of that is attributable to Dsamp.

However, it is inexcusable considering our NIL program, the WR friendly offense, and our QB.

That was my earlier point. Nico's accuracy on long balls has left a bit to be desired. He probably only hits on 20% of throws that travel over 20 yds in the air. But then of that 20%, our WRs drop several that hit them in the hands.

Neither is helping the other out consistently. WRs beat their man, Nico overthrows them. Nico puts it on a dime, the WR drops it. Rarely do they successfully put it together at the same time.

How many of those passes did Nico put on the damn money and they dropped them ? Two hands should be a catch. Slowing down on routes is also on the WR. It's a wash all things considered but don't put the lack of numbers just on the man.

Lets not forget several wide open deep shots that were missed by QB. two or three of them connect and it's a different look all around. Can't blame the WR's for those.

Some of it’s Nico, some of it is the Oline not giving time but there’s been a lot of drops as well. Would be interesting to see how many drops we’ve had in comparison to other teams.
