IMO, GT hit a home run with the PJ hire, also Ole Miss did as well landing Nutt. I hear rumors that Petrino wants the Arkansas job.

Its a homerun, if he gets Tenuta to stay, and any rumor out of Arkansas..........well, I will wait and see, especially considering their may be less talent at Arkansas next year in comparison to the Falcons. For the most part he is getting a pass this year. In saying that he may really be available in the next year or two. He leaves now, and no pro team ever touches him again. Its college for the rest of his days.

Paul Johnson will lead Georgia Tech directly to the bottom half of their ACC division.

That gimmicky offense will be of no use in a couple of years when Miami and FSU are healthy again and Butch Davis gets a couple more recruiting classes on campus.

Eh it will work for a season or two. The opposing DC's will be pulling out high school tape to try to figure it out.

Well, he is good enough to take 5'8", 175 lbs white boys, and beat that power house football institution we all know and love The Notre Dame University...........Ok, I know, I know, got a bit carried away with my verbage. :whistling:

In the AJC today he said that he will bring his offense to Ga. Tech but it will be managed to fit the players he has...he said when he coached at Ga. Southern they threw it 40 times a game sometimes...

He had special players like Tracy Ham, who could do it all.

How did he do against Delaware?

The man must know what he's doing. Navy was TERRIBLE before he arrived there and then he took them to 5 straight bowl games.

As for Delaware, everybody has an off day sometimes. I mean, look how that powerhouse UM team did against App St. this year. Or the mighty Saban did against ULM or the oh so great Pete Carroll did against Stanford. And none of those coaches have restrictions on their players height and weight

Gimmicks work at Navy, not against top teams every week. The ACC is not the SEC, but with the speed of va tech, fsu, etc., this option offense will not work.

The 3-O is the great equalizer against speed. It's easy to over pursue the option and a defense needs discipline to stop it. A DE that just flies up field to the backfield will cause his team to get gashed by the fullback.

1. The '95 Florida defense wasn't anything special.
2. The I formation Nebraska ran bears scant resemblence to the gunk Navy has been running.

If the Flexbone was predicated on great athletes and speed, you'd be correct, but . . . .

Go look up the stats for Air Force vs. Tennessee in 2006 and Ga Southern vs. UGA in 2004 (a team coached by Paul Johnson incidentally) and let me know how successful the raw speed and athleticism of the SEC defenses worked out. I'm sure that defenses will force Ga Tech to be more multiple in their Flexbone, but you can't totally dismiss the success either.

There's a big difference in something you see once and an offense you see every year. How much damage did the flexbone do inside the MWC DeBerry's last 5 or so years?
