Try this again, Tracy Hamm played in 85, and 86
HC Erk Russell
OC Paul Johnson
You're right. I had forgotten that Johnson was on Erk Russell's staff going back that far. I was talking about his head coaching tenure which came much later.

There's a big difference in something you see once and an offense you see every year. How much damage did the flexbone do inside the MWC DeBerry's last 5 or so years?

There's probably something to that argument, but if you think about it, this is sort of like when the Spread Option came to Florida. There's really not much to compare it to since the Flexbone hasn't really been tried at a BCS school. The closest comparison is probably what they run at West Virginia.

But wouldnt you agree only seeing it once a year, could cause a lot of problems. You have to be such a disciplined defense. Hard to learn all this stuff in just week of practice. Plus if they have the right QB, he will throw out of it, alot at times. With Nesbith already on campus, he has that kind of QB. If he can somehow get Tenuta to stay with the defense, GT should be fine. I mean in that league as of now, he can win his share of games, IMO.

That's pretty much my opinion as well. It's not like you have to be a juggernaut to win 8-9 games in the ACC right now. If Clemson, Wake Forest and Boston College can pull it off recently . . .

Paul Johnson will lead Georgia Tech to multiple ACC whatever division titles with a couple of overall titles thrown in.

Navy's schedule, regardless of who they played, is difficult primarily because of the fact that the Midshipmen have less actual football talent on their roster than anyone else in Divison 1 (that's FBS/1-A and FCS/1-AA combined). They were out-talented in every single game, and they rolled up an enormous amount of offense in every single game. Their 8-4 record only has the losses due to an extremely porous defense; you can get by with below-average players on offense but it's pretty tough defensively.

Hat, what's the over/under on GT's win total for next year?

PJ will win, esp if he lands a running QB that has any semblance of throwing ability.

1. The '95 Florida defense wasn't anything special.
2. The I formation Nebraska ran bears scant resemblence to the gunk Navy has been running.

i agree with both points. my point was, discipline and good coaching will stop the option before speed. ask john chavis.

Teams will see it every year but it's not like they will spend all year preparing for it. Teams at most will spend 2 weeks getting ready for it(when they have a bye week). I agree with GAVol, they'll win 8-9 per year immediately and possibly win the conference.

I remember talking about Urban Meyer's spread offense being gimicky, that it would never work in the SEC...

His offense hasn't won him a NC. That NFL caliber defense did. Add that to the fact his "perfect" QB led them to 3 losses in the SEC this year.
