Galaxy S5

So I played with the phone at the store. It's pretty nice. I'm just hesitant with going away from the iPhone. I went from HTC to the 4s. Then from the 4s to the SIII. I couldn't find someone to trade with quick enough back to an iPhone(5).

Having a MacBook makes it even harder. But it's a damn nice phone.

As a guy who sells phones for a living (yay part time jobs in college), I would never recommend a person get an iphone over almost any android phone of the same level of technology. The limits apple puts on their software compared to the open source capabilities of android straight out of the box are just too vast to even mention together. And the price apple puts on their phones are outrageous. They still list the 4S as a 450 dollar phone. Not even close.

I love apple because its a great OS for old people or people who've never had a smart phone, but that's because of how limited it is. It's training wheels virtually. If you know what you're doing, get an S5, get an Active, Get an M8, etc. It's just able to do so much more (and sales people can actually work on your phone with no lawsuits)

Just for giggles what do these open source capabilities offer? I hear about it but not sure what it is. Customization? 3rd party apps? Oh yea nobody in their right mind pays full price for any phone.

Besides Ebay or Amazon, where else can you go to get an S5 below the asking price?

Biggest thing is customization. Very little can be changed within the iOS as far as looks, widgets, etc. go. 3rd party apps are kind of a given, as with the play store over Itunes you don't need banking info straight up, just a google e-mail (which everyone should have anyway, especially those poor yahoo folks). Perhaps the biggest thing people notice immediately is how hard it is to transfer things from iPhones to non-iPhones. They will not bluetooth information like they are supposed to. I can transfer all your pics and contacts over bluetooth in a few minutes from your Samsung, LG, or Motorolla phone that's been made in even the past 3 years. I can't transfer one thing through bluetooth between even two brand new S5s unless you have iTunes or your cloud set up. It's quite annoying when you get a person a new phone and have to say "yeah, these don't transfer because lol apple."

You can't give two examples proving him right while trying to prove him wrong lol

I havent seen much of a discount on brand new phones unless they are used or refurbished. If you want one brand new out the box, you are going to pay full price or maybe get a reduced price after about a year or so whenever the new version of that phone comes out.

He was making out like you can buy an S5 right now at just a ridiculous markdown. I don't think so.

They're doing pretty good & I have plenty of customization options. So you're saying apple transfers easily to other apple phones/devices & android transfers easily to other droid phones/devices. Yea that's odd. Lol.

Oh yea how hard is it to transfer stuff from non iPhones to an iPhone? I guess you're the decider of which is wrong.

When my wife switched from blackberry to iPhone I switched her contacts in less than 5 min on my computer. Surely your store has this ability? Setting up iCloud takes less time than that.

I don't know what you are talking about needing bank info? You can set up iTunes without payment info for purchasing free Apps. I did it for my niece last year.

Everything else you listed is borderline geek stuff. The average user doesn't do much customization past Lock and Home screen pictures.

And lest we forget that Android leads the market in Malware.

If constant tweaking and playing is your thing then I see the appeal of Android (Although, jailbreaking is super easy). If all you want is a phone that can run some apps, make calls, take pics and text then either platform is fine.

Not counting a jailbreak, he's completely right. They still don't compete in terms of hardware, and syncing Android to Apple devices is as simple as an account sync to gmail.

Why not count a jailbreak? What if I don't care for Gmail? Whatever makes an argument convenient.

How is the gmali app on Android cause it is downright awful on iOS.

Although you have to have gmail to get apps on an Android, similarly to how you have to have an Apple ID with the iPhone. So that would make it most convenient

Comparing hardware is misleading since iOS only has to be optimized for apple devices. I think it's fair to say iOS is faster on comparable hardware.

In the end it's just personal preference. There is no right or wrong answer. There are thinks I like about both iOS and android.

Tell. Not sure I saw it. Been a busy week. What's it do?

Basically if you're doing something on your iPhone, like typing an email, if you go timeout Mac, the email will be exactly where you left it on the iPhone
