It's disrespectful to the coach and undermines leadership when the family of a current player starts lashing out publicly. I think CCM needs to be replaced but I don't think he needs to be embarrassed by family members of players. It's classless and does nothing productive. It also teaches the player a horrible life lesson about handling adversity and respecting authority.

You have messed up point of view of you enjoy hearing CCM get bashed by family members of a disgruntled player. He's a fine man, not a good coach, there are far worse crimes than that.

There's a Japanese problem solving technique called the 5 whys...the basic concept is to ask 'why' 5 times and if done properly using the right tools you arrive at the absolute root cause of a problem...my point is, if there is one is that a walk ons relative talking about a coach isn't the problem with the program...

I don't call players name, not even opponents I respect them for what there are, students...I don't criticize them individually either, don't use profanity or abusive language....

I also don't patronize a coach by saying 'he's a good person' because I/we have no idea what kind of person he is...however he's not a good coach or a good communicator, very bright or articulate or a visionary communicator or motivator...

He's paid millions of dollars to do a simple task with one real objective....I have a contractor building a sea wall at my house on Norris Lake....much of their day is spent standing in water and or mud...after a day or two I noticed they didn't stop for lunch....I asked why....they were hesitant to respond but it became obvious they weren't allowed to...or at least it was discouraged....I bought/brought them lunch a couple of days....contractor told me to stop or he wouldn't abide by the fiscal or completion dates on the contract....thats life...real life...and shame on Martin for not being equipped to do the job or for not making efforts to remedy the problem...

CCM is disrespectful to the fans with his piss poor coaching.

He deserves to be ripped for the results he's provided. Plus he's a grown man I'm sure he can take it, and the money that he is essentially robbing from the school is comforting I'm sure.

harsh..but spot on and the truth isn't always pretty

I'm sure they didn't say anymore than what has been said on this board. I didn't hear it but if they said CCM has done a bad coaching job this year that is nothing but the truth. It doesn't matter if it is your Granny, or whomever speaking the truth when asked a question is the way to go.

He can take it, I am sure. Doesn't make it right for relatives of a player to call in a radio show ripping him. Nothing wrong with respectful criticism based on performances, done in the right manner. How is he robbing the school? That is nonsense. He was offered a contract and took it, he works hard and just doesn't get it done enough like we think he should. He does everything his job entails. Like any employer, UT can sever ties at anytime. That's how the world works. You going to attack his integrity now? Stay classy.
Also, stuff gets back to coaches' kids, but I am sure you have no problem with that either. I mean, money comforts them, right?

I'm just speaking the truth, no reason to sugar coat it. This is what he signed up for. When you ink a contract to be a head coach of a major sport at a major university making millions and you don't perform this will happen.

If the contract provided for it, I would have broken it on the spot if I were you. For one thing, the state of Tennessee requires that an employee receive a 30 minute meal or rest period for every 6 consecutive hours worked. More broadly, I don't like to treat people like crap.

I didn't hear the interview but I doubt they're questioning or bashing him as a human being. You say "respectful" criticism (which by my definition is bashing) is fine, if based on his job performance and not directed personally. So if they're just "bashing" his coaching ability then what's wrong with that? You seem to contradict yourself, unless you're saying it's ok to criticize performance but not personally. If that's what they were doing then everything should be fine. They have as much of a right to complain about performance as any of us; they pay to watch games too and have more of a vested interest than most all of us.

When the bench players that CCM has been playing can't contribute then I see no reason not to play the walk ons.

Let me be clear, I was not just referring to that call but also fans who go too far. Those "relatives" were ridiculous, lobbying for a family member to play. They are lobbying for a new coach while their loved one is playing for CCM. That is disrespectful to CCM and the player if he didn't know they were calling. puts him in a tough spot. We made fun of Dooley and his Mom for his Mom defending him radio, this is similiar.

Trying for a little silly levity, but you can always count on VN to ruin it for everybody

That was embarrassing.

And for all those loving basilio because of this, rewind 5 minutes and listen to him talk about Pearl.

Says he's been told by big money donors that they don't want Pearl back, and they won't even consider bringing him back. Not to even pretend or think it'll happen, because it'll never happen.

Ouch.

Also, they were talking about CCM not offering Mathieu, didn't Pearl fail to offer Steele?

Best I remember, Basilio was also saying Gruden was "still in play" late in the process of hiring a fball coach. Most listeners don't put a great deal of stock in his 'insider' info.

So, I'll believe CBP isn't coming back when UT introduces another coach.

bTW, what did BP do to piss you off so bad, BTO? For a guy who eats, sleeps and breathes UT bball, you sure do carry a lot of hate for the guy. Now that CCM has proven to not be the guy, it's like you've turned your attention to doing nothing but hoping that BP doesn't return, and rubbing any quote you can use to support your logic in his supporters faces.

Makes no sense to me.

I am surprised you are still here after the smack down Orange Balls gave you yesterday. Basilio has about the same credibility as you, which is zilch.
