under Heupel Tennessee has been a VASTLY different and VASTLY better team at home

Agree, the two (bad) trends that I have noticed with Heupel is issue with road games and issues with handling hype/high rankings. Both are out the window in the next game.

Now those two issues haunt a lot of coaches and teams, especially younger coaches.

Vols will play angry. Expect fights, shoving, penalties, hard hits, taunting, and big scores. Oh, and noise, lots of noise. So much noise, we just might trigger the New Madrid Fault.

There's gonna be an earthquake, earthquake, earthquake.
You will feel the Knoxville village shake, shake, shake.
The ground is gonna heave and break, heave and break;
Hold on tight so you don't fall, for goodness’ sake.
It's an earthquake, earthquake, earthquake.
Knoxville village is gonna rock early and roll late.
Send the lizard people home with a massive heartbreak.
You will shudder, you will be shocked with wonder;
But that rumbling noise you hear, isn't thunder.
No, indeed, it's not a typhoon storm;
It's the Vols' offense being reborn.
You will forever remember the date;
You experienced the Vol-quake, Vol-quake, Vol-quake.

Lose this game and it's the beginning of the end of Heupel at TN. I just hope he knows the full scope of what is at stake going into this game.

With stupid Vandy beating Bama now, the fans are in no mood for anymore excuses.

Obviously, the OT situation severely limits what we can do offensively. It's also why our RB's and TE's aren't involved in the passing game as much. They're needed for protection. Frankly, I don't think we see the Heupel offense as we expected again this season. I think we will see the OU offense the rest of the way. We might work on it with UTEP and maybe MSU if we can get a big enough lead, but it's clear we can't be that fast paced Heupel offense this year. Depending on the recruiting development and portal success, we might not see it next year either. Might be best to just try to play conventional ball and depend on special teams and defense.
True, but not calling plays to help that is an issue, Call a slant? RB Screens something. Arkansas had some plays where they hiked the ball, the QB took 1 damn step and lobbed it to their WR on a 50/50 ball. Why cant we do that?

This is a stupid take imo. If we lose this game, something will need to change at seasons end, but this isnt a "Career" ender for Heupel. Get out of here with that.

I hate saying it but I really think we lose this game. We already have a tough time beating UF when we have the better team, now you throw in the fact that our OL is terrible and our QB can't get out of his own head. Maybe as the week goes on I'll switch back and say we win a close one, but no way could I predict we cover.

He will be a deadman walking and forced into having to fire his friends. Consequences for the loser of this game. It is now a battle between two coaches to save their job.

its looking like hooker was just an outlier and generational type QB for tennessee that we lucked into.

its becoming clear that heupel isnt very good at evaluating and/or developing QB talent
Hookers success here might suggest that it's better to seek a talent qb via the portal (someone who has played perhaps a season as starter ) over getting that high school ( unproven) out of high school ?

I posted something about that in a thread about Vandy and got called a Nico hater and took flak. It is a better investment to get an experienced QB through transfer portal from a G5 or ACC/Big12 program than get someone out of college. I think Nico is going to work out (maybe not at the hype level we want) but you see what happened with Jackson Arnold and DJ Uiagalelei. Not all 4-5 star QBs work out.

It will be close. I don't care if we win by one, just win. It's ALWAYS a struggle against them even when we've won the few times that we have. Oddsmakers say UT by 15.5 I think? Can't recall the last time we were favored by that much against them.
This seems like no one is taking into account the unexplainable psychological struggles and the propensity for UF to play like NC contenders only when they play us. I'm not a betting person, but I'm tempted because I think UF covers that easy, if not fluke a win outright.

i was going to mention that perhaps the recipe for success is to buy QBs and O-Lineman instead of recruiting/developing those positions

QB, yes but it is tricky. I think the QB needs to have a great relationship and connection with the other 10 players on the field.

Offensive line is the opposite IMO. I actually think having lower star rated players that play well together is better than getting 4-5 stars. I have been told on numerous occasions that offense line is one of the most inaccurate position to quantify in recruiting rankings and typically sees the most busts. Offensive line is all about how they communicate and work with each other and the offense as a whole. Coordination matters more than talent at times. This is why Arkansas' offense line (despite not being higher ranked) held up well or why Vandy held up against Alabama.
