QB, yes but it is tricky. I think the QB needs to have a great relationship and connection with the other 10 players on the field.

Offensive line is the opposite IMO. I actually think having lower star rated players that play well together is better than getting 4-5 stars. I have been told on numerous occasions that offense line is one of the most inaccurate position to quantify in recruiting rankings and typically sees the most busts. Offensive line is all about how they communicate and work with each other and the offense as a whole. Coordination matters more than talent at times. This is why Arkansas' offense line (despite not being higher ranked) held up well or why Vandy held up against Alabama.
point well taken. i've heard that O-Line is the hardest position on the field to develop, hence why perhaps the solution is just to hit the portal for lineman. but what you're saying also makes sense.

The key is that the size differences between a 3 star and 5 star are not that much. It is generally based on HS performance but you don't know what they will look like once they get into the big game.

Don't get me wrong, recruiting rankings still matter, even at that position. However, that is the one spot on the field where it might be the most subjective.

I posted something about that in a thread about Vandy and got called a Nico hater and took flak. It is a better investment to get an experienced QB through transfer portal from a G5 or ACC/Big12 program than get someone out of college. I think Nico is going to work out (maybe not at the hype level we want) but you see what happened with Jackson Arnold and DJ Uiagalelei. Not all 4-5 star QBs work out.
If you watch any college football on the weekends , almost every team is playing with a ( semi) veteran qb who transferred from another school. But Georgia proved to the football world that you can win championships without having to have a super star qb as long as you surround them with good players and good defense.

True but Georgia didn't become Georgia over night (same with Alabama). Tennessee needs to have good QB play to be at a higher level (at least right now). The talent is improving and we are probably now in the top 5 or so in the SEC with talent but we are not at Alabama or Georgia level.

This seems like no one is taking into account the unexplainable psychological struggles and the propensity for UF to play like NC contenders only when they play us. I'm not a betting person, but I'm tempted because I think UF covers that easy, if not fluke a win outright.
I am convinced that fluke wins especially in conference play are pretty much a thing of the past. Upsets however have always and will continue to exist. Vandy just handed bama their azz on a plate, UT gets whipped by arky, USC losing to Minnesota, Missouri was flat out embarrassed by the Aggies, and Kentucky getting the better of Ole Miss the week prior. It is becoming more evident that there is more parity in CFB than ever before. I am more concerned with UT's offensive line than the psychological struggles at this point. You are right though, UF normally saves one of their better performances for UT in Neyland or at the swamp. This is an earn that paycheck type of game for Heupel.

This is a stupid take imo. If we lose this game, something will need to change at seasons end, but this isnt a "Career" ender for Heupel. Get out of here with that.
True. But that guy's forum name is well-chosen, isn't it?

i was going to mention that perhaps the recipe for success is to buy QBs and O-Lineman instead of recruiting/developing those positions
KY beat Ole MIss. with their purchased players. Just saying.

Personally. Think that the team has character and will take of business, as in play an excellent game. Expect that they will win, but really must see a well executed game and game plan. If they dont, then there is a maturity issue to address.

I'm not thrilled with how our offense has looked the last two games. But I don't think we should be panicked about the Florida game, just like Bama fans should be about playing South Carolina, or Mizzou fans about playing UMass.

Or, how Vandy fans shouldn't suddenly be overly confident about playing Kentucky.

You could go on and on. That's why they're called upsets. But you get over it and go onto the next one.

With this hurricane named Milton about to rip through Florida, it would make for great hype if Joe were still here.

As it is, I wish for safety for Floridians and devastation for Gators.

I'm starting to wonder if the Gators will be able to travel for this game. Wouldn't shock me if this game gets postponed.

Oddsmakers say UT by 15.5 I think? Can't recall the last time we were favored by that much against them.

Maybe if enough people bet against TN covering, Vegas will make it happen. Wouldn’t it be crazy if we had fewer holding penalties than our opponents?

I hope this Milton will also lose in Florida. I don’t want to see any more people’s lives ruined by natural disaster.

Wouldn't be sad if this game was postponed so the Vols could have an extra week of practice for Bama. The Hot Seat Bowl can wait.

After Saturday night my BVS is in full swing, so I expect we will lose a sloppy, close game in some completely bizarre, new manner.

Maybe by the weekend BVS will settle down.

Gainesville is on the fringe and, I'm told, the "good side" of the hurricane (whatever that means.) I think they'll be fine.

Not much will be happening in Orlando this Saturday though, if I had to bet.

I've got friends on the waterway side of Flagler who are leaving this time. They've got a bad feeling about this one for some reason.
