Game Thread: (#11/10) Lady Vols 76 - Tennessee Tech 48

Steve seems to do most if not all LV games on SEC+. I like Steve, think he is good and knowledgable, but I would like to see a bit more variety in color analysts. Maybe an ex LV player?
Andraya has moved up...that's a good thingie for her..
She and Alyssa have a daily on THE SEC network...studio work is good if you can get it.

I am usually at the home games, but was out of town tonight and watched the broadcast on my Ipad. I thought they both had some of the best commentary that I've heard in a women's basketball game in some time, especially on the SEC network.

He started for the Vols and played the same position he criticizes the most. He was a very good player in his day, which wasn't all that long ago.

Nothing he said was even remotely belittlingly. He is paid to analyze what players and coaches do that is wrong or right. That is literally his job.

Once the SEC season starts, many if not most of our games will be on the SEC cable network, which is nice. I like to have the option to tape games in case I need to do something else.

give horston a break next time she passes in the row . which is less each year . we do not know how much her back is hurting her. she not just 2 recuit out high school. she the player now tries hard bad back or not. i do think she gives her all for the lady vols.

You have to let some athletes be themself...even if you don't totally want to let them.
Jordan is one like this.
You get the "great" and you get the "wtf"

Why does Hamer have to do all our games?

Dude, I hear ya, , , If its a miss it was a bad shot or the wrong decision but if it goes in it was the correct choice...

Ex-Vols player Andraya Carter called games for the SEC Network a few years ago.
Thought she did a great job too. I don't know why she wasn't called back to keep it going.

Draya still works for ESPN but mostly in the studio. I think she's been doing half-time reports for men's games.

Steve Hamer is a fantastic guy to have calling our games. A former Vol, so he's got some love for the place, but he's a former player and he calls it like he sees it on the court. Nobody's perfect, but he's a Vol and I'll take it over a lot of the other things ESPN sometimes serves up for these SECN+ shows. If I were picking out a list of analysts who really give insight and explain what's happening during possessions, I feel like that list would be pretty short anyway (as to whether that's by ESPN's direction, or by their skill, I don't know enough to say).

Nope, they need to stay off fan forums. What we say or think means absolutely nothing, why would they waste their time? Why fish for insults and then get insulted?

I'm always curious if these alleged parent board readers also go listen in on random fan comments around the arena at games and get all butt hurt about what's said? This is no different.

In general I really doubt these parent board reader posts; they've been around elite athletics for a while and they know what criticism is important to monitor. Old school fan forums are not amongst them.

I've seen people make this argument before and I disagree. Regardless of what they "should do," if they read the boards, they read the boards. The Lady Vols have one of the largest fan bases in WBB and one of the most active forums in WBB. The same way we end up here to read and chat, random others interested in fan thoughts end up here too. I don't see why that would be such an outlandish thought at all, really. Like it's almost inevitable a Tennessee fan, prospective player or parent, or even a lurker or hater from another forum would end up here.

This board actually has an outsized influence on how the fanbase is viewed by outsiders, imo. The flybys with the negative comments, the extreme negavols combined with the stalking, grifting weirdos, the racist and homophobic comments about the players, or nasty comments about their looks: people notice that, to say the least. You might say they "shouldn't look," but that's a moot point. They do look, and they do see this. Does this happen on every forum, sure, but this being one of the largest makes that significant.

Adding to that, the phenomenon of visiting forums after a loss or big win just for curiosity's sake is a big one.

If you have cable, you may have the ACC network. I know charter in Knox County does.

No such luck for the Lady Vols fans here in W.TN. to have ACC games on our cable TV lineup.
That's why I posted "maybe" someone could post a game link for us & others to watch the VT game. But, I can always read the game thread or catch game highlights later.

How do you normally watch your games on SEC+ on the cable channel or streaming? If you have ESPN+ or Sling it should be easy to watch. They broadcast all the ACC network games as well

We'll have to agree to disagree, plus this is an extremely old and tired subject we argue about every season and I promised myself I wouldn't do it this season. So just this once . . .

My basic disagreement is over the "outsized influence" of this forum. At peak, during the season, we are a couple of dozen active posters and probably several times that of lurkers, drivebys, etc. We ARE actually one of the larger more active WBB forums but even at that we're tenny, tiny as a percentage of people who care or watch WBB. Plus we are a very old school format; I'm sure twitter, instagram, etc are more active.

Moreover, I don't see watching what we say as a solution; rather, those actually connected to the program should watch what they consume. As I said in the original post, seeking out this forum, attaining a login, and then monitoring for insults is no different from running up on a live conversation, eavesdropping on it, and then being hurt by what you heard. Don't spend your time that way unless you truly want to hear what's being said. Then don't complain.

In reality, these parents and players have been in elite athletic zones a long, long time. They long ago figured out what's important criticism (the coaches) and what doesn't amount to a hill of beans (us).

So have we given up on improving the WTF? I don't get that bc I believe all our high t.o. players can get way better. Some are always going to be relatively high t.o. players, as in 3 a game, Rennia Davis and Rae Burrell are in that category. But consistently going beyond that into 5 or 6 territory seems to me to be worthy of effort to improve, not excuse or accept. That does not diminsh improvements and accomplishments in other areas at all. I'm convinced high t.o.s, along with dismal outside shooting, will be our eventual downfall.

I'm also concerned bc both t.o.s and poor outside shooting are longtime plagues which are definitely not improving so far this season, not withstanding a couple of encouraging games from Darby.
