Game thread: #11 Lady Vols host Georgia. Sunday, March 2, Noon ET, SECN

I wouldn’t say today that they imploded. Their best player goes out in the first half and was down 23 points. They lost a game they should have won but showed fight in coming back and taking the lead.

What’s your expectations for a first year coach? S16?
Expectations are an interesting concept. I've read right here, on this very forum, that Tennessee had talent equal to any SEC team, and that they were a lock to finish in the top 4.

Sara 0 Whitehorn 0 Cooper 2 points...UGA 1st SEC road win all season. Pretty shocking. Completely out coached. After all that Coach Caldwell has done right, last 2 games make me think hold the brakes. Did something happen in house?
It's mostly some players have disappeared for some reason. Spear and everybody vs UK -Coop and Spear showed back up today but the whole team was still in bed the 1st Quarter of the game and Whitehorn & Spearman and Puckett have regressed. Tess has stayed about the same she hits 1 to 3 threes a game but not much else, but I think she was a zero 3s today.

21-62 (33.9%) FG and 6-28 (21.4%) 3pt coupled with crappy D will get you beat even by bad teams
Just offensive numbers alone but to play full court D whole game we have to have more Athletic players to overcome Offense when this bad. We have really played 3 games in a row of bad basketball only was saved by a 38 point 3rd quarter against Florida. In CHRIST Alone

The last two games look exactly like previous teams under Holly and Kellie
You are insulting Holly's and Kellie's teams with this .... especially with the way we played in the first half of these 2 games.

Something has gone off the rails. The Lady Vols are in the mode of a team that is just going through the motions and playing out the string. But why?

There are no moral victories today. I’m not opposed to them in general, but the team doesn’t deserve it today.

Watching us get eviscerated by Kentucky with clean, well-executed plays kinda put it in stark relief for me. We have a lot of talent, but it seems like we have to deal with sloppy play about 40% of the time. Kim needs to find a way better balance between up tempo chaos and clean execution.

Do we know the injury yet?
Not that I know of. Cora updated her story a few minutes ago, and no details yet.

If CKC is asked in postgame, it’s doubtful she will say when she hasn’t been able to speak with her or her family, etc. And there will be more tests, if necessary, I suspect.

Hoping for the best. But even a good outcome will prolly not be announced without scans to confirm good news.

But I am speculating and have no news.

We’re going to be the same seed we were last year. I’m no longer sold we upgraded anything beyond the recruiting.
Recruiting is a huge positive - from almost none to a highly ranked incoming group. I like this team, especially for a virtual makeover, but it needed a lot more speed and a calm floor leader. Boyd, Latham and Spearman give me hope for the future. Caldwell can coach, imo, but she needs more players and she needs to adjust her system to match her players a bit more.

Definitely baffling how this team has taken such a dramatic nosedive. At least they played with some amount of heart in the second half. But I don't understand the sudden lack of confidence and energy. Definitely a concern moving forward.
Teams have the film now , press not near as effective. And the SEC is loaded with talent. Kim will learn and grow just like everyone else to succeed.

Not so sure that this style won't work with women. When she gets subs that are just as good as starters this can and will work I believe. Give it time! these last two games were just huge bumps in the road. Need a little more post power and better trapping ability and next year could be lots of fun. Still potential to overachieve this postseason. Go Vols!!

Yeah... gotta say I'm having a hard time connecting those two points.

It's not like Georgia came out in some exotic defense that shut down our shooters and that the staff couldn't solve. I can't see how Georgia gets credit (or our coaches the blame) for us shooting 8% in the first quarter.

Something else is going on. Something that's happening inside players' heads, and not even consciously. A mystery to be solved, but doubtfully with cliches or pep talks.

Like it or not, this will be the ongoing narrative for this iteration of Lady Vols for the rest of this season.

Going down 23 points at home to one of the worst teams in the sec is maybe where we should start and end when assessing this game. Kim has, by far, exceeded expectations for her first year. And she needs better players no doubt. But there is no sugarcoating this loss. Losing a top 16 seed because you lost at home, on senior day, to arguably the worst team in the league is not great

You aren't going to get subs as good as starters if you are recruiting at a high level.

It's a head scratcher , Kentucky and Georgia got to the rim with ease and both teams played with much better effort and discipline than Tennessee. That turnover today where the player flipped the ball over to the guard that was talking to the ref and the ball went out of bounds sums up the last two games pretty good
