Game thread: #11 Lady Vols host Georgia. Sunday, March 2, Noon ET, SECN

Teams have the film now , press not near as effective. And the SEC is loaded with talent. Kim will learn and grow just like everyone else to succeed.

You make some good observations... but the one thing that I've always wondered about with coaches... do you need to have some measure of flexibility in your approach? Can/should you adapt to the situation or just barrel through a season?

For the record, I think your comments could also really apply to Tennessee football and Coach Heup. So, we'll see how Coach Kim is really doing in 3-4 years.

I don’t disagree with that. I said they should have won the game, and they didn’t. Win the games you’re supposed to win. With that said, imploded isn’t what I saw. I saw a team fight from 23 down with their best player out. As a coach, that’s what you want when adversity hits. Her being a first year coach, I believe she’s already overachieved expectations and the UConn win carries a lot of equity for the future.
Not sure what else to tell you, but you’re wrong about this. They imploded against Kentucky and the hangover continued against a really bad team. You simply do not lose—let alone get down by 23–against a team like Georgia if you have the talent we’ve got. That’s implosion with a capital I.

I don’t know if that Kentucky game created some kind of mental block or what, but a coach should also be able to help her players compartmentalize tough games. I felt like Kim had done that pretty well this year given our run of losses against top teams, but something changed this week. It’s really ugly and not at all how I expected a team led by a no-nonsense coach to wrap up the year.

Are we talking Kentucky? Are we talking today? We can choose which game you want to reference. I’ve only reference today.

We'll never know since she was fired before getting the Vol Club NIL funds that the current coaching staff has the benefit of...
Don't fret, football will be taking the extra funds back. 🧐 SOON..

I believe you're a good person i just don't get why you're still upset over things that went down almost a year ago. Coaches come and go , willingly or fired it's part of the business..

You aren't going to get subs as good as starters if you are recruiting at a high level.
You can't call the first 5 the 5 best players. Just think of the men's team Jordan Gainey is probably the 3rd best player all around but never starts. You have role players not everybody is a scorer and not everybody is a lock down defender, not everybody is a big and not everybody is a ball handler. If you recruit well enough you can have a deep team with not much drop off and if you get 2 deep at each role and players coming in are almost guaranteed 10 minutes. Then when they get here if they show out in those 10 minutes it increases to 15+minutes.
This team has a couple on each 5 they put in that are at times a liability. Recruits are coming in and a portal or 2 should make for an interesting run.

He promised me and other 'low level' boosters at the new coach's introductory press conference that his expectations for her first season was to compete for a championship...
You must not understand “I don’t disagree with that”. It’s ok, you’re a low level booster. You must’ve missed the parts where I stated win the games are supposed to win.

Talent has to match the philosophy in this league. Lot of players just don't have the ability to recover on the backside of the press.
True but the way we play defense is going to leave some players open sometimes. It’s a trade off— hopefully the steals and turnover exceed the made open shots.

Teams have shot a good % against us the last 3 games. I suspect the way to an attack our D has been improved upon as the year has moved ahead. Plus, we have looked tired and with low energy lately.

Some here believe the standard is F4 every year and somehow convince themselves it’ll happen.
If we want to get back to Pats heyday you have to recruit roster full of pro players like Pat. Holly recruited like this but couldn't coach them up so we replace her with Kellie who would inherit Holly's talent few pro players and add 1 more few years later in Jackson but was only a sweet 16 type of coach. Kim comes in and had to rebuild this roster and take an athletic gifted Cooper but not yet ready to lead a team Boyd Athletic Freshman and take some roll players at other schools and make this a team that can compete. Her system got us out to a really good start but as we have seen these last 3 games to play good basketball when offense is bad you need super depth of equally Athletic players who can keep up Defense intensity that keeps you from losing games like today. I'm patient and looking forward to see how it plays out next several years. In CHRIST Alone

Are you capable of grasping a nuanced thought, or am I asking you to swim too far in the deep end? The disaster started against Kentucky and continued into today. You can take them separately and they’re both ugly, but taken together it’s a bad picture.

You’re zig zagging from game to game and that’s not how sports works. The Kentucky loss stands on its own, today we lost under different circumstances which stands in its own. I’m back stroking at ease.

Don't have to worry about playing at home any longer. I think we would have to win at least two games in the SEC Tourney to even be considered for a top 16 spot. Looks like we will play Arkansas and I can't say we will win that one could be very close. Season had great promise has all come to an end very quickly. Some players that were really producing Spencer and Whitehorn just went stone cold. Puckett no help all season. Darby and Spear off and on.

The problem with that risk reward strategy is that it really only works against teams with below average guards. Good guards are easily able to break the press as we saw in the LSU, Oklahoma, vandy, USC, Kentucky games. And then obviously once they break it we are at a complete disadvantage and that’s not even including our atrocious on ball defense in the half court.

That’s my biggest concern with her defensive system. We might have spurts where we cause trouble even to good teams but I just don’t think it will be long enough to withstand the easy baskets that come from breaking the press. And then the defense in half court just has to get better. There are way too many blow bys. That Florida game was atrocious
