No, but the pull of the WNBA is not so strong for players like Rae who could get another year in school AND improve their stock. She could easily return, you only get your college years once and the WNBA is not a cash cow.

Yeah, all that is true, but there is another side to the coin, as you know. If the WNBA is scared of her knee/leg enough not to take her in the first round, then she's in the position of considering returning to prove to them that she's OK. But I think if they want her in the first round, she'll go. Four years in college is enough for most of us. But if she wants a grad degree, and the WNBA is uncertain about her, then that might be the ticket to her return. And that would strengthen us on the wing, and relieve Pissott of pressure to step right in and play at a high level. But it won't cover our weaknesses at the one and the five.

True enough but the pull of Europe is strong and some of those teams are cash cows.

I undestand Rooster1's rationale and that is the way fans think players should think. But more often than not, a good player is ready to move on with her life and take on new challenges. After Rae went down with the injury, most the draft projections still had her going in the 1st round. Yes, she has been a little inconsistent since her return to play but I don't think that will hurt her draft stock. And she still has over a months worth of high profile games to strut her stuff. So, we are all guessing about what goes on the mind of a 22 year old. Maybe Rooster1 has the right call (which would be great for the LVs) but my expectation is that she declares for the draft.

If if her draft stock suffers and she doesn’t enter the draft I don’t see her returning. Idk why but I just think she’s ready to move on. May do like Diamond a play a season or two in the Euro league and refine her game a bit. Rae would be dynamite in the Euro leagues with her style of play.

rewatch the feeds!
She receives the ball high and immediately brings it down,t o power up.
this has cost her a ton of open shots.
I coach bigs. And the first thing I teach them is to never bring the ball down when you receive it high and are within a push-shot of the hoop. There is simply no need for a big to bring the ball down and I saw it repeatedly.
TK releases her jump-hook with two hands,,,,,grrrr

For the improvement she has had and the distance she COULD have covered,,,I'm only marginally impressed
Catch it up keep it up shoot it up. Simple

And wouldn't that job be on the coached? She has been here 3 years. She has improved in other ways but not on this fundamental.

I agree that bad habits need to be replaced, and to replace some habits mid-season is highly improbable because of the number of repetitions it usually takes to replace one habit with another. With two games a week and at least one off day mandated, the actual number of NCAA-allowed practice hours is pretty low. If both of those weekly games are road games with extra-long flights, the amount of time the team is on campus to be able to get a lot of practice time in is even less.

Now, if the only thing a player was allowed to do until they replace the old habit was to do repetition after repetition after repetition after repetition after repetition of the new movement, then maybe it could get done during the season. But the reality is that a player who is a centerpiece of the team can't be cut loose for weeks to only work on their own game. They HAVE to be there working with everyone else. And during the season while travel takes so much of their time, the players don't have a lot of free time to go to the gym after hours every day because they are usually having to do doubletime catching up on classwork. Those papers don't write themselves.

Anyway, the bottom line is bad habits need to replaced through repetition in the offseason and during whatever breaks from classwork they get.

P.S. Once a bad physical habit has taken hold and been done for a long time, it's very hard to break. The number of repetitions it takes to truly break it is crazy high. The problem many athletes have is that when they get tired or in a stress panic they unconsciously revert to their old bad habits. The coaches can only show them the correct movements and hope that, over time, it sinks in. Intensive Visualization of doing the proper movements IS something even busy students can do throughout the day, so that's so ething the staff could encourage.

I'll make this real simple
There is an adage that stood the test of time and still does....
"Players are made in the offseason,,teams are made during the season".

Yes, you continue to improve and grow during the season, but the laser focus that the athlete and coach can have during the off-season is exponentially more influential,,,...in the off-season, you only have to think about BB when you are actively experiencing it,, during season, games, after-game film sessions, presser potentials (for the most part) ,, things like this cloud and overwhelm some minds...that is why that adage is true.

During this time true ballers are going to BB school,,,trouble is there are a lot of "substitute teachers" teaching these ballers. . . the Real coaches are rare.

It's a basic, natural instinct to gather the body by getting hips, arms and legs lower before springing up, so when a post player has difficulty un-learning a highly natural movement, it's understandable. Posts like Tamari have to put in unbelievable amounts of tine and energy retraining their brains to do something so unnatural, and most people just don't have/make that kind of time to do it.

If I had lots of money I'd invent a contraption that restricts a posts arms from coming down and have them wear that sucker for at least two hours of repetitions a day during the offseason. 😲

springing up...she is 6'6",,,she has sprung before she ever got there ;o)

To get them to stop dropping the hands you have to make them aware of what they SHOULD be dropping (the body!),,and you constantly coach them to "drop the body not the hands"...over and over and over,,until its is a reaction not a thought.

I teach touch shooting (this is shooting without bringing the ball to the shot-pocket,,,to develop a player's touch shooting you have to teach them the different mechanics,,,for instance, in a touch shot it is perfectly normal for a ball to "knuckle" on its way to the basket,,bc your release is a combination volley-flip action into a traditional shot

Give me that kid for a summer and she will come back a Kareem Abdul Jabar incarnate...she's damn near 6'7",,,she learns that shot and learns how to use her lower body more in positioning and posting,,,and she will be more than just a DPOY potential,,,she'd be a POY shoein

Thanks Coach Jumper and IVOCD for the informative comments. I wasn't trying to be critical of TK but truly puzzled by the continued pattern as discussed. I work in training and molding young adults in a non-sports field, so I forget how habitual muscle memory may be a different beast than other types of habits, not that any habit is easy to break. I would add to IVOCD's comment that reverting back to old habits under pressure is so true for all of us humans!

One more thought on this topic. Rae just dodged a serious knee injury. I would think that experience would make her more anxious to make the jump to the pros sooner than later.

Let me just say that coaching does matter and what a fabulous job Kellie Harper has done with the talent she has available on this team. I don't think there is a coach anywhere that could've done better. Obvious we need better point guard play and more depth at the post position. I think we'll see those positions get better next season by using the portal.

A win over Alabama next Thursday locks up a tie for fifth place with only Miss St needing to lose one more game for Tennessee to lock down a top four in the SEC no matter what happens in the other games this season. Being in the top four gives you a double bye in the league tourney. I think we need three more wins either tourney or rest of season to keep a spot in the top 16 and play the first two NCAA games at home. Still a lot to be decided hope we find a way to win them all.
I take a longer view. LVs win their remaining games, including the one against SC and, at least, ties for the SEC regular season championship. GBO, and as cliche as it is--control your destiny.

Key herself has admitted to bringing the ball down. She has said that's what she admires about Striplin. Striplin doesn't bring the ball down. It was in a post game interview after one of the games. She knows she does it and knows she shouldn't but she continues to do it. Habits are hard to break when the pressure is on. She may not break this habit until she gets to the pros and works on basketball 24-7. I love what she brings to the team and see potential for so much more. Keep working TK. You do have supporters out here even though they may not be the most vocal of the bunch.

Why do you think this discussion about how some of us wish Key could improve her offensive game is trashing her. I don't read mine or anyone else's post here as trashing her. It always amazes me on this board how just having a BB discussion about technics comes across as Negavols or trashing a player on this site. I guess its all about how you read into something what you want it to be.

Where does the poster mention anyone trashing Key?
