Game Thread: (13/10) Lady Vols 76 - Missouri 62

IMO KW is going to great for us. For sure she needs a big off season working on technique and knowing when to go and when to find the open teammate. The things she has like speed, athleticism and being fearless, however, are hard to coach. Her upside is big!! Can’t wait!!

I am a little concerned about Jordan's knee. She limped off the court tonight when Kellie took her out for the last time in the 4th quarter and she was resting for a good bit of the time in that quarter.

Great win.

One thing Kellie knows how to do is beat unranked teams. At home.

Yep. Kellie looked around the country and saw that Mizzou was unranked and scheduled a game with them at UT, just so she could rack up another nothing-burger win. Don't let anyone tell you the schedule is made by the SEC and Kellie has to play them as scheduled. That's a bunch of cr##. She deliberately takes advantage of unranked SEC teams, sneaking them into her schedule when no one is looking, just to boost her resume.

Think Kellie really deserves kudos for sticking with Tess. Some folks on here were ready to ship her off to a mid-major program. We are obviously starting to see what Kellie (and Mudcat) knew she could bring to the table. And we’ve got her for three more years!
Tess still gets beaten on drives...no surprise there. But her overall perimeter defense has improved greatly. She is now fighting over screens to maintain contact, and she keeps her hands up and active. She also seems to have a nose for the ball and good anticipation for where the longer rebounds will fall; also good at shading passing lanes. Getting better at closing off baseline drives close to the basket and boxing out underneath. Finally, her release is getting quicker...almost touch-and-shoot...and she zips passes and returns quickly to open shooters.

Smart, heady player with great leadership skills.

Mo can't bring much ball pressure so they can't exploit us that way. We won't know if we have improved until we play a team who can do that.

From what I saw they CAN bring pressure. They pressured us a lot, and we were uncomfortable some, but handled it well other times. I thought we were improved in that area, but I could be engaged in wishful thinking, too.

Tess too!😉
See your correction! Great analysis!

i thought she looked better tonite, though she missed a lot of shots. She was shooting in rhythm, though, and looked more confident and sure of herself. I think she's slowly improving.

Her shot is just not quite there but it is so close. A couple of her 3s looked good on release but just rattled out. It has not been a smooth progression. It has been a little one step forward and half step back in the losing streak but she is moving the right direction. If she has her game back by tournament season, we are talkiing about a different LV team.

Things a fan might talk about 1) another great double double game from Jordan Horston; 2) Tess Darby nailing 4 threes plus a solid all round game; 3) after a sloppy first quarter, the LVs getting their TOs under control; 4) handling the press more effectively. 5) Alexis Dye coming back with a monster 3rd quarter after a poor 1st half. 6) Righting the SEC ship with a dominating win over a team that can be really dangerous (ask SC). 7) TK getting back to controlling the defensive block.

What fans don't do; Make dumbass snarky comments about a WIN .

read tess darby played the long game and won go vols 247. it tells of tess recuitment and how tess was rank top 70 by college scots. her missing summerball tess softmore year hurt her rankings.

Still here.

Good point about Rae. She may have rushed back and then she pressed too hard once in.

Chemistry is a funny thing in basketball though. Gotta figure out how to maintain it with different elements present.
Rae may need to stay another year. She has lost her groove..
