Game Thread: #13/10 LSU (23-4, 10-3) @ Tennessee (16-9, 9-4 SEC) 2/25/24 12:00 pm EST ESPN

Powell had a forgettable game.

Well, I wouldn't call it exactly "forgettable.".

While agreeing with much of the analysis re: Powell's meltdown and Kellie's lack of response...take a timeout, sub for her and instruct, try someone else, something...it is hilarious to watch the goons disappear when we cut it to one and it looks like a nailbiter going to the wire. One can only imagine the gnashing of teeth when it looked like we had a good shot at winning.

We have scorers. We need distributors like Ziegler with a pass-first mentality. We have some good but currently ineligible options on the bench.

The TV announcers' assessment of Powell's shot selection and passing was brutal. But they weren't wrong.

Kaiya might have at least played better defense on Van Lith. Powell just gave up several times as soon as VL got a step on her. And leaving VL open for the corner three because JP missed a shot and was "upset" about it was inexcusable and a backbreaker.

It wouldn't have been fair to throw Edie into the fire in such a big game, but I think she would have been an improvement in the fourth quarter. I like Powell's hustle and rebounding most games, but her poor decisions today really let her team down. And Kellie didn't help by not taking her out to either help her or discipline her.

This was a very winnable game, and fans ought to be disappointed. Sadly, it's perfectly clear that the anti-Kellie contingent don't want a late-season turnaround or tournament run because that won't achieve their goal.

Seriously? Create offense. She is very offensive, but that’s not quite the same
She can create she is able to beat player by getting to rim she just struggled today finishing same as Jackson. Please see players we have very few that can shake a defender and get to rim play in traffic. Most of our players struggle at this.

Yes you are correct. Strip is one of several that are mid major players period. In CHRIST Alone
The roster is weak. They gave good effort today on the boards just couldn't make shots. Had open looks a lot of them in the first and second half just couldn't make anything.

And in big games there is a reason Powell is volume shooter because she is the only guard on this team that can create offense. Spear can't Tess can't Wynn can't then throw in Puckett who can't create. Only Jackson and Powell can and today both missed much more than made. It gets easy to talk about Powell but she is missing athletic 2 that can shoot. Spears can shoot and against lesser teams get to hole but against SC Lsu to legit teams nope. In CHRIST Alone

Agreed. It also points to Kellie’s inability to design an offensive system that fits the teams personnel.

The offense is still based on 1-on-1 play. And it’s really easy for teams like LSU and SC to guard. Been that way for about 20 years.

I would argue not just today. She is a ball hog that misses layups, mid range jumpers, and three’s. Consistently

To my eye, she’s only slightly better than Tess at creating her own shot vs TOP teams. Like Tess, she needs to be wide open to get her shot off, and she isn’t great at finishing at the rim. Doesn’t have a good mid-range pull up.

It was a huge weakness last year that I thought the staff addressed with Spear - a guard that can shoot AND create at high level vs top teams.

Spot on. Spear doesn't strike me as an especially good shooting guard. She's not that quick and doesn't really beat defenders off the dribble, which a good shooting guard should be able to do. She's shot the three well in recent games, but that's seems to be her basic strength--a decent shooter when open. But she's been bad in big games.

As for Powell, she can create and beat defenders off the dribble and get some good looks. That's the dilemma with her. Yes, she takes some crazy, dumb shots--but she gets looks. She just can't make the shots. We don't create enough shots for Puckett; there is just too much standing around, and then somebody tries to go 1v1 or forces a shot because we've got nothing going on. This was especially evident in that abysmal 2nd quarter.

Lots of people assume that ADDW will have the answer for a LVBHC. I’ll go on record now and say that if he does decide to go with another coach, it will be an underwhelming hire. He’s in over his head.

There is absolutely NOTHING in his tenure on Rocky Top that suggests Danny White is in over his head. What in the world are smoking.

If we make the tournament, just give Rickea 25+ shots and I’ll live with the results.
I want to make the tourney cause were still the only school in the country that has played in them all. After that not caring that much hope they do well win a game or two. I really am more interested in what happens in the off season. Are we staying the course or changing? What will the roster look like? If were going with mostly these same players next season will just be more of the same.

From my observations this year ,Edie probably should be starting

I don’t know of any contingent of fans that don’t want the LVs to succeed, to include the ones classified as negavols. But please enlighten everyone with how a late season turnaround or late tournament run negates coaching malpractice continuously displayed by this staff? Late season turnarounds should never be the norm and wouldn’t be necessary if not for coaching or lack there of.

Kellie finally sees this as you see her future recruits our athletic ballers. Only question remains does Danny White care enough to pay money buy out and what it would cost to get right coach here. Who knows. In CHRIST Alone

What a stupid response. My only goal is to see a good basketball team that is competitive with any team in the country. We currently are not, and will not ever be under current staff. If you honestly can’t understand this, then you are one that accepts mediocrity and are a huge part of the problem. Wise up

Kentucky (mens BB) tends to do the late season turnaround. If you saw some improvement in the team over the season, then actually would make me feel better. Last year, Kelly got her extension due to the win against LSU, I'm sure--but it's always the same old same old. The Lady Vols are suppose to be elite. Yes, I feel that way because Pat built women's basketball and it makes me sad.

I'll go on record now saying I disagree with your post, especially the last sentence.
However, I do not think he will pull the trigger this year on KJH. Not saying he shouldn't, just think too much else is going on and it would take the right coach at the right time with an agent behind the scenes expressing an interest. IDK, maybe, e.g., the VaTech coach.
