Powell had a forgettable game.
Well, I wouldn't call it exactly "forgettable.".
While agreeing with much of the analysis re: Powell's meltdown and Kellie's lack of response...take a timeout, sub for her and instruct, try someone else, something...it is hilarious to watch the goons disappear when we cut it to one and it looks like a nailbiter going to the wire. One can only imagine the gnashing of teeth when it looked like we had a good shot at winning.
We have scorers. We need distributors like Ziegler with a pass-first mentality. We have some good but currently ineligible options on the bench.
The TV announcers' assessment of Powell's shot selection and passing was brutal. But they weren't wrong.
Kaiya might have at least played better defense on Van Lith. Powell just gave up several times as soon as VL got a step on her. And leaving VL open for the corner three because JP missed a shot and was "upset" about it was inexcusable and a backbreaker.
It wouldn't have been fair to throw Edie into the fire in such a big game, but I think she would have been an improvement in the fourth quarter. I like Powell's hustle and rebounding most games, but her poor decisions today really let her team down. And Kellie didn't help by not taking her out to either help her or discipline her.
This was a very winnable game, and fans ought to be disappointed. Sadly, it's perfectly clear that the anti-Kellie contingent don't want a late-season turnaround or tournament run because that won't achieve their goal.
