Game Thread: (16/14) Lady Vols 86 - Mississippi State 64

I kept yelling Burrell what are you doing guess she didn't hear me. Kellie sure needs to have a talk with her about decision making.
LOL when she bends over, slowly dribbling and you know its coming, you can almost hear all of LV Nation collectively screaming NOOOOOOO! Pull the F up Rae!

KJH must rise to this coaching challenge for us to have much of a postseason chance. She finally got it done with JH, maybe she can use the same decision making playbook w Rae.

Over and over and over again. That's what I don't get. Dozens of bad decisions with embarrassing results. How bout don't do it anymore? She has so much positive to offer but hides her offensive light under a bushel of wild drives, falls, and turnovers.

Wynn has exactly the same problems...ill-advised drives resulting in TO's or out-of-control shots that don't have a hope in hell of going in. I hope the coaching staff gets this fixed over the summer.

Rae's problem is not her knee, it's her head. 50 first dates with Rae, it's like her development last year never happened. For some reason, she's reverted to thinking she's a finish at the rim player and she isn't. She's a much better outside and midrange shooter. But she will not stop forcing things inside which I cannot understand at this point. KJH mentioned looking at film with her; you'd think an embarrassing look at those crazy falls and heaves would change Rae's mind. I don't get it. At all.

BTW I was wrong about Darby. She's getting her shot off so much faster now.
I agree. She’s been forcing the issue much of this year. There’s been a couple of games where she looked more like last years Rae, as far as letting the game come to her and not forcing the action. Shes a great midrange player, slasher and above average 3 point shooter when she’s playing her best. Hopefully she can find that rhythm again. But I was referring to her physical health, not her game play. Theres times where she drives or cuts to the basket and barely gets off the ground. She visibly slower, less quick and less explosive than she was last year imo. Hopefully she‘ll come back next year at 100%

Disciplinary. Well hell. Possibly a missed class, the cardinal sin for LVs? But now? You do this now, a total own goal when you are needed so, so badly? Not cool at all.

But, she's young, it's been a long, long season and she's contributed a ton. So hopefully she's all fixed and back Sunday full speed.

If Wynn gets the ball, Wynn is going to drive toward the basket and make some kind of shot attempt. Period. lol

While this year it has often been frustrating because it hasn't usually resulted in a score, once she gets her body more under control and starts making some of those shots -- if not this season, then next -- we will be soooooo happy she's such a fearless driver of the lane.

When I watch her I get the feeling that someone close to her is telling her, "Now, when you get into the game you have GOT to make something happen! Get the ball and drive towarc the basket! You can either score or get fouled and get to the line! Just make sure you aren't just standing around watching! MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN!!!!"

That's not altogether bad advice -- IF she were at the point in her development where she could make a good percentage of those shots that are just too wild right now.

Like I said, I believe Wynn's willingness to take charge of a possession and get to the hole will help us a great deal -- in the future. We just have to hope noone gets in her OTHER ear and starts making her go too far in the other direction and she becomes too afraid of messing up that she stops driving altogether.

I see a great deal of potential in Wynn.

I agree with the commentary concerning Rae and her rim runs. However, I don't think her driving is necessary her decision. She needs to finish at the rim and pick her spots but I believe (could be wrong) her driving is part of the game plan.

We played extremely well at SC. Yet, if we could get one play back (for me) it would be the quick three taken by Rae in the second quarter. At the time we were (shockingly) only down by 5. The floor was open to drive...she pulled up and launched before we got set. The long rebound went to Henderson for a run out and a dagger three. So, Kellie's discussions with Rae, may have revolved about taking the ball inside.

I agree with your comments about Wynn, Ivocd. She showed her potential with the reverse layup.

Hopefully she plays Sunday and hopefully she has a good attitude about it. Could be mid terms :/

truth... could be a lot of things but CKJH has said since she stepped on campus they have gotten on her the most and she responded... I fully expect her to do the same thing with this and come out better like she did with the coaches getting on her over the summer in workouts.
