Game Thread: (19/12) Lady Vols vs. Georgia College (EXH)

Miles and Wynn impressed me and both should contribute. Green looked really comfortable out there playing. Tess played with a lot of confidence. Hard to tell from one game but Puckett looks to be slow, as does Striplin. However, Striplin set some really good screens and has some good post moves and knows how to get position. For the first game I like what I saw from the freshman. The starting 5 are IMO top 5 or close to that in the country. After that we will see. Green for sure is solid, the rest who knows. Although all showed a good flash here and there. Look forward to watching this team gel come SEC season.

I enjoyed this exhibition game. We have to realize that it was going to be a little sloppy. We need to work on free throws and bunnies. We missed too many shots under the basket. Dye, Burrell, and Green looked good. They have a few things to clean up, so I will refrain from getting too negative.

I will say Jordan Horston's offensive game looks more intentional. Her shot more fluid. just one game but if it's any indication she can become an all around threat

This is a start. Now they got some film to work with and can start to work on areas to improve in. We just beat a division 2 school by 60 points and broke 100 points playing the bench players a majority of the game. Neither South Carolina nor Mississippi State broke 100 points last night and South Carolina was playing a division 3 school. The season is young.

There's a lot of takeaways from this game both good and bad. You don't score in triple digits unless you're good offensively especially when those girls in green were like ball magnets. It struck me as a typical first game with all the timing and execution issues that go with it. Shooting was good overall. Several players made some fantastic plays. There were a fair amount of bloopers and missed bunnies that might have disappointed me the most.....that and Jordan doing that pause move at the foul line only to lose control of the ball but overall it was a fun game to watch. 60+ point wins should be celebrated

South Carolina played a division 3 with like 20 All-Americans and scored only 98 points can’t relate😎 Go Lady Vols

This is definitely going to be a game Puckett will want to put behind her quickly. I hate it for her that she has had a rough start. Hopefully it's just first-game jitters and next game she'll be good to go.
She left the team in rebounds .

3 pt was equivalent of shooting over 60% from two so it was an effective addition for us tonight.

That is a place where we would fall behind last year. Gotta get the post game clicking though. We got 6 pts from our center, and 6 from our big forward. Not much posting up and feeding the ball in was happening tonight. Which is OK given the nature of some games. But given the height differential we should have feasted down low in this particular game.

Nice drive Tess. She’s playing with more confidence than last year.
I think Tess is gonna get a nice amount of minutes in her role. She is a smart player, has a nice quick release from well beyond the 3 point line and her foot speed and defense have improved. It would be great if she can hit that 3 consistently to help open up the interior a little bit more. That happens and our post players could also have a field day.

Striplin posted up often but they didn’t always get her the ball. Not sure what we’re coaching but our guards don’t go a good job getting our post players the ball so that’s one huge area I’d like to see improve.

Keyen reminding us tonight why Kellie wanted her in the first place. She is so tough. Walker never gets enough love. I’ve been saying it since last year, she is a dog!!

Not sure why most of you all were expecting an all American type of jump for Key. She’s too lackadaisical to ever be an elite type of player. She will be good for us, but don’t ever see her being great.

This scrimmage went pretty good in my opinion! We lost Rennia and everyone was wondering how we replace her ? Well not with one person but we are going to be all right. Dye is going to help a lot ….. she is more aggressive and a better defender that Rennia! Her offense is good from 12 foot in ! At least she made the bunnies and strong around the goal ….. Jordon H. Is going to be a better offensive player and give us three good options along with Rae and Dye . This three headed attack should make Keys life a little easier? Tess and Green will add depth but there is a little drop off right now ….
The freshmen are just that ! I remember Rae’s freshman year and these 4 are ahead of her already. Wynn is the athlete that I expected her to be ! She can play on both sides of the ball and be effective. She just needs to slow down and breathe… she will be a good one ! She was ranked in the top 25 before they dropped her down? But everyone can see she will contribute sooner rather than later ! Miles is quick but not as quick as I had hoped . Unless she comes on strong…. I think Kellie will move Jordon to give Walker a break and use Wynn to relieve the two ? JMO

Kellie says Puckett has all of the skills but she struggle to guard out past ten feet ! A step slow but it is a first game …. Stricklin will be used inside but it’s crowded in there ! But I liked her offense and good posting up !Could she relieve Key for a breather ? A good scrimmage but lots to work on!

When I look at TK’s production I have to check myself. 6 points, 5 boards, 3 blks in 13 minutes.. she missed three free throws and some shots so I’m actually… not as concerned as I was to be honest. First game, maybe a little banged up already, and not many minutes.. we’re actually fine

I agree with Volfan1017 about Walker never getting enough love. Why IS that? She's one of the scrappiest players we've had in years, and she plays much bigger and stronger than her size. What an easy player to love!

It’s because she doesn’t shoot the 3 as well as fans would like.
