Game Thread: (19/12) Lady Vols vs. Georgia College (EXH)

This is a start. Now they got some film to work with and can start to work on areas to improve in. We just beat a division 2 school by 60 points and broke 100 points playing the bench players a majority of the game. Neither South Carolina nor Mississippi State broke 100 points last night and South Carolina was playing a division 3 school. The season is young.
LSU broke over 100 pts, does that mean LSU > SC? South Carolina's defense is mostly always ahead of their offense to start the season.

I don't think I would jump to any conclusions about Tamari from one exhibition game.
You’re right, but that isn’t a conclusion isn’t from an exhibition game. It’s a conclusion after watching her for her entire career. Don’t get me wrong, she will help us. I’ve seen a lot of people post about how this will be an all American year for her. I just never see her being at that level. She’s not necessarily relentless. She doesn’t pursue the ball on rebounds. If she had the attitude of Glory Johsnon/Graves, I could definitely see her being an all American. She just seems to be missing that it factor in terms of toughness/pursuit/competitiveness. I think she’s a good basketball player, but my point is you can’t be a top post player in the country without that toughness factor.

I'm glad we won lol 😆 how we will fare against the SC UCONNs etc im not sure how yall think we can do in half court set vs quality competition?? We definitely missed alot of easy shots tonight we WONT get those extra chances when we play good teams

I agree on this one. I have said this from day one. I love the kid but she has no grit
You can't teach that you either have it or you DONT

I agree with you for the most part, at least up till now. Your point about her lack of being relentless and a consistently fierce competitor is spot on. I do think she made a significant jump from Freshman to Sophomore year, but it was still frustrating to see games like the one she had a triple double and other ones in which she takes 4 shots. I know that some of this is that she doesn't get enough touches from the guards, but that never stopped the best centers and forwards. They can get tons of points by being a demon on the board. Too often Tamari seems to regard rebounds as an afterthought. I still have hope that she will get better every year, but it would be an amazing surprise if she ever got all American. I would love to be wrong.

As is Tennessee's defense, although with the amount of All - Americans that South Carolina has, you would think they could score at will even if the defense is way ahead when playing a division 3 school. Lapses with South Carolina's offense and focus last year is what caused them to Lose the SEC regular-season title. What do they have 10-12 all americans on that team?

I haven't been able to watch yet. How did Dye look? Did she show any range on her shot?

I just watched it on ESPN?SEC+ repeat,,,,first game jitters,,,through quarter one. Got sloppy with first subbing and got worse from there…(end of Q1 OK @ Game ,,,”time out” time is near...t-o to raise the expectations level/line ). Went 7 of 26 from Q1 to Q2 through (10-32 5:31 left Q)1….Learning opportunities. At least one timeout should be set aside for this early on. . . . 10 second chance shots netted 7 points early on. …so far impressed with Dye, J-Walker, Miles, RB and Puckett…let me watch some more… (2:24, 41-14 and looking more ladyvol-like…Darby from “Justine land”but fizzled ending H1.
H 2
A ton of missed bunnies in this game,,,,,,Coach K calls timeout 3:07 Q3, for a teaching moment,,, ...Horston comes back strong to start the 3rd ,,,Wynn and Miles having impacts in Q4,,,JH 14 p 8 reb assists, a couple of 3’s…LVs finish strong and make final 6 shots to end the game in triple digits.

Dye looked very good on both D and O,,she attacks the paint and has a good pullup. She shot the elbow midrange pretty good...I am on team Dye right now...gonna be a factor.

That was the same complaint about Mercedes Russell as well. More of this has to do with body type rather than "toughness" and competitiveness. Let's take the Glory Johnson comparison. She was listed at 6'2 but that was a very generous listing (she was not much over 6'). But Glory was probably the most athletically gifted player in the history of the LV program. Had she wanted to concentrate on track and field (where she had a been a high school star), GJ would have been an all-american sprinter, hurdler, and long jumper. Glory was walking bundle of supercharged fast twitch fibers. So, take her lower center of gravity and more explosivess, it was just a lot easier and more natural for Glory to chase after loose balls, dive on the flood etc. than Tamari who is more of a lumberer. [Side note: Let''s not forget, fans complained mightily about Glory for not being a better shooter, a better post-up player, and more consistent during her LV days-- fans seem to always appreciate players after they're gone. After Tamari graduates, I am sure the lament will be "if we only had a shot blocker like Tamari, she was so great!!!!!]

So, TK is a classic post-up, guard the paint type player who excels at blocking shots but she is not going to win many scrambles on the floor (that is a long way down when you are 6'6 maybe going on 6'7). Since her freshman debut, however, I have been saying that TK needs to improve her lower body strength so she can hold up her post position better and get a little more explosiveness into her vertical game and I hope she has done some work toward that end.

swat!
swat!
swat!
Fear of driving into LV paint!
they'll take it
And TK can contribute in many way boards, assists
don't sleep on TK,,
TK will play in the WNBA

You didn't answer my question, LSU > SC since the LSU scored over 100 pts?

To begin: RAE is a STAR! That’s the truth. She’s a joy to watch.

Now, I’ve watched the game twice. We scored 108 points, playing 4 freshmen almost half the game, shot 52.3%, and had eleven turnovers for our first game, impressive.

Everyone looked fit, everyone hustled the entire game. To me we look bigger, stronger, and faster than I can remember.

Someone mentioned a ceiling, I see no ceiling for this team. Someone thought Sara slow. Not only did she play more minutes than any other player, and grab the most rebounds, for those that follow plus/minus numbers, Sara came in third highest number 31, behind Rae 35, and Jordan Walker 34. Sara’s shot didn’t fall much in the beginning, but it will. She did sink her first 3, the first of many I’m sure.

I thought Jordan Walker had a great game, and Jordan Horston‘s shots were also much improved. Tess can play defense, play smart, and can score. Green had a really good game, too. Alexus is the player we thought she was, she’s gonna be fun to watch. Striplin, Miles, and Wynn have fine futures, and Jessie made layups.

On another note, I think that team we played will have a better year this year than last, props to them, they never quit.

So, if I saw anything I thought could have been better, it was the first game, and I saw nothing I do not believe will improve.

This team may prove to be great. GO LADY VOLS!!!

Coach K will go through many sets this game, and for the next couple of games after this.
I'm Looking forward to seeing Brooklynn Miles most...Her AAU coach said she was pure-dog on defense and that means good!..ON Ballertv, in spurts, I could see what he saw, but not in consistency
A good coach can find that consistency-button
I am banking on Coach K...Liked her as the choice of UT and like her still
Coach K's gonna take us places

Haunted House or Coffin?

Coffin. I scare easily.

Lots of teaching moments from last night. The play down low on offense was embarrassing for such high level players. The shots on the basket looked like 4th graders trying to shoot. How many box outs were missed? Horston, Burrel, Green and Walker looked good. I thought Darby looked much better and Dye was a good addition. They have to get these issues cleaned up or they won't be having a season like they want. I know, first game, but holy cow how can you miss that many shots down low. It was like they were passing it to each other over the hoop. Good to see Kellie upset about some of the defensive play last night. She was ticked off a few times and let them know it. GLV!!!
