Game Thread: #20 Lady Vols v #16 Ohio State: Sunday Dec 3 @ 5PM; Home, ESPN

Why are you so triggered by this? No one is saying Jon is THE reason this program is failing so badly and replacing him is the solution. We recognize he is a symptom, not the cause.

That said, this is a message board for a sports team. When a unit of any team is underperforming, it's only natural the coach of that particular unit will come under scrutiny on any forum. It just so happens that this coach is married to the head coach, which fair or not makes for really bad optics and a worthy topic of discussion whether you feel it is warranted or not...
Never said it couldn't be discussed, but the discussion can also be reacted to. Screaming "but Jon!!!" reliably everytime the going gets rough just seems so much like swallowing an elephant while straining at a gnat to me. Also, I agree w Lucy that alot of this is based in discomfort with a man working for his spouse, which I think is actually a great example.

Piling on Jon to me is the equivalent of pro-Kellie posters saying "but we did beat LSU that one time".

That alone is a red flag.

I maintain that this husband/wife duo thing is terrible. In all aspects, at all schools. Please, name ONE mens team of any sport where the coache’s wife is an assistant?
That's a weird non-starter.

Women, for better or worse, tend to not be considered for coaching positions in men's sports. I think there might be one female HC of a men's bball out of all NCAA divisions. On the other hand, everyone here can without hesitation rattle off the names of a dozen men HC of major women's programs. So the gender comparison is an epic fail. And it has nothing to do with "being related to the head coach."

Hammon and Lawson had their brief flings on NBA staffs before returning to coaching women. That's just the way things stand for now.

In the 1996 SEC women's tournament. Pat Summitt Said something. I will never forget.

When asked this very question she replied... "I will coach anything but passion, if I have to teach you to love my sport. I don't want you"
Do you see the sense of urgency in the Lady Vols that was there when PS was the coach? What about the elite teams- USCjr, Stanford, UConn, UCLA, or even say Ole Miss? I don't, but I'd like to know your opinion.

I got your point. Regardless what titles they carried, one had to be lead. If Jon isn’t pulling his weight, either can him or go with the flow. To say criticism towards him is based on gender is that’s totally absurd.
Absolutely absurd, as she didn’t advocate for him being a good coach.

Only, when they want to have that sense of urgency on their own.

Pat was an Alpha woman,,,a true leader,,,she could coach anything out of anybody.
True Alpha women are as rare as true Alpha men
Probably around 5-10% of each gender, per my estimation
I get a lot of grief from this site when I talk about this...so I will just say this....

You can't intimidate urgency from an Alpha athlete, you can't beg for it either...Your players have to want to give it to you because you have earned their respect.
If a team is struggling with urgency, then I question whether, that coach, has their full respect.

The Beta players are more in the "want to please" mode,,,they are opposite of this...demand, and you'll get shut-out, ask and you'll get.

That is why I think all teams have both varieties of coaching personalities.

Nobody had issues with Dean Lockwood because everyone knew what Dean did. Nobody questioned Al Brown under working for Summitt. The discomfort is a reach to deflect or protect without merit.
