On paper, this one shouldn't be close. Lady Vols are #1 in the conference compared to Auburn (0-6 SEC) dead last at 14th. Auburn has played a few good teams close in January (OT loss @ Missouri, 5 point loss @ Florida, 3 point loss @ AL) but also lost by 28 at home to LSU, and by 18 @ A&M... which was A&M's only win in SEC play this year. Auburn is 98th/ 356 in net rankings, so their winless record in SEC play is a bit deceiving. They're not a horrible team. They've beaten GA Tech early this year (Tech is now 15-4). This team doesn't seem to mind winning on the road - so I have no doubt they'll be ready. Prediction: Lady Vols 72 - Auburn 57

Auburn might be at the bottom of the standings but it's a road game and Auburn is not coming to the table empty handed. Old Tennessee from recent years past had a habit of walking into a game like this, struggling on offense, giving up a few scoring runs, and finding themselves in a fourth quarter dogfight. And any team - any team - can be a threat if they think they're within reach of taking a win from you. Nuts to that. This is a game for Tennessee to show why they're starting to get national press. Go out, play Tennessee defense, control turnovers, keep the ball moving, and never let off the gas pedal.

Go Lady Vols! Should be comfortable win, should is key word.

TN: 80
Auburn: 48

I highlighted in bold what I think the recipe for success is. Defensively, Auburn is only allowing 62 points per game, and no team has scored 80 on them all year so I think low 70s would be really really good for us. In fact, they've not won a single game all year when the opponent has scored 68 or more points... so 68 is the point total that likely wins it for us.

Man that image, I get what they're trying to hype, but ESPN needs to cool it. That team started Bobbitt, Hornbuckle, Bjorklund, Parker, and Anosike. It averaged almost 80 points per game and won by an average of 18 points, and dominated turnover margin in a big way. Tennessee's earned this 18-1 on its own, with its own character, but the comparison is pretty superficial.

Heh, it's true, I'm definitely one of those "ten points leads in the third quarter are fool's gold" types of people. But in my defense, that ESPN graphic is silly. Like one of those weird baseball statistic points, you know, the ones where some announcer says "this Tourniquets team hasn't won the final game of a series on Monday or Tuesday since 1975, which was the last year Chuck "Pookie-boo" Wolfson pitched reliever for Topeka."

If it is of any redemptive value, I don't think this team needs to be compared to anyone else. Got some size, got some speed, got some talent, got some pride. They just need to go out there and put their best on the court.

Don’t take any team for granted no matter their position in the league or otherwise. We are ranked which places a target on our backs. Every team is going to be fired up so we must stay fired up times 10. Play Auburn like they are one of the best. There is no room for taking it easy.

SEC road games have a habit of being grind it out games.Grind it out is the mantra of this team and it likely will be just that.I think the LV's will win but please do not turn the ball over with foolish decisions by dribbling into double teams, throwing the ball to some ghost team mate, etc ,and please continue to make free throws a huge goal in this game because one point could make the difference.Hope it is a blowout as some have suggested but it just may be just another "grind it out game win" and you know what ,I will be fine with that ......

Have you ever smelled it .I have several times 1st hand in South Viet Nam.It is not pleasant like the guy in the movie stated....especially when there is human flesh involved.

Col. Kilgore's next line explains his infamous quote:

"It smells like...victory."

The key to understanding his character are the scenes demonstrating that he loved war and was oblivious to the carnage around him ("Charlie don't surf"). Kilgore strode around like he was invincible and was looked upon by his men as a god (a government-sanctioned counterpart to Col. Kurtz). Even his name is a play on words.

In short, he and Kurtz were both nuts. The difference is that Kilgore was a useful nut who still followed orders, while Kurtz had "split from the whole f__ng program."
