Game Thread: (4/5) Lady Vols 61 - Auburn 71

Or one without an embarrassing loss, which is the subject. The Stanford loss was not embarrassing. Losing to a winless Auburn team on a 23 game SEC losing streak was embarrassing, you can bet your butt the coaches we are competing against in recruiting will feature it prominently in their pitch.

Auburn was not "winless."

No wonder you're embarrassed.

DePaul did pound Vanderbilt and won at Kentucky when they were ranked in the top 15 FWIW.

I know you can argue Auburn had some nice moments this season, but it's hard to get past the fact that they had a losing record and they were the only winless team in the conference this deep into the season. It's just a really bad look for Kellie, for the program, and for potential recruits...

Nonsense.

Why would Auburn have any home court advantage when they only had like 7 fans there?

I can see having the familiar surroundings, but it was like a pick-up game as far as attendance and atmosphere. You can literally get bigger crowds just playing on a public court with random Joes showing up.

The crowds obviously have an impact on the players being influenced by the cheers and noise from the stands ! However , there are several other positives from playing on your own home court . You play here every day and just that familiarity is a positive. Did you know all backboards are not the same ? Some are really tight and some looseness in others . The goals and nets come in different styles and materials! Some coaches will air the balls on the high side of legal pressure so the ball bounces off of the rim and backboard ( helps a small team verses a tall team in rebounds )… And vice versa with low pressure if your team is tall and you want the ball bouncing softly and staying on the rim longer ! And if you remember last year when Dawn was complaining about Wilson balls being used when her team was used to a different ball ! “There’s no place like home “!

I hope its not a high coaching priority that fans get to see the discipline and teaching in real time. I'd rather guess than have her put on a sideline show so I'll know for sure. Especially when that's never been her coaching style.

It isn't,,,it is important that the players know it COULD happen

but great for you

Why do you think she didn't?

She has been asked in the past why she does not call a timeout like most coaches do when all hell is breaking loose....She said her philosophy is to let the players work through the bad times, and besides there will always be TV timeouts to make corrections...

Sometimes our team, like last night, was in need of direction....Our girls were dribbling around with no purpose, other than to just dribble....

Lost count how many balls were lost driving to the rim...Just stop and pop will go along ways to improving the landscape of the game...

We have always had problems beating Auburn on a consistent basis in men's basketball with Pearl there and in football.

Why do you think she didn't?

we can think the "Evil Genius II" for this trend
Geeno
The difference is he realized that even though they were playing through adversity, they still needed him to rescue them at the right moment.

Letting a team successfully play through adversity builds a team,,,but making them play through adversity to the point that they feel helpless is not going to grow confidence. It only make s the player's uncertain about if they will be rescued next time.

I meant to put winless in the SEC but the wife started Ozark.

At any rate, I accept your concession that you have no real rebuttal to it being an embarrassing loss which will be used against us and you have to resort to being an ass to change the subject.

Exactly.

Hearing the descriptions of how terrible we are makes we wonder what that says about the 18 teams we've beaten thus far.

BB recipe for success...Beat the teams you're supposed to, half of the even games and steal a victory or two from those you're not supposed to beat.

To this point we were exceeding this plan

Not just the fans, but the team, the staff, the foes,,,all have to take a step back and wonder if Auburn has interrupted our flow.

upcoming,,This may be the most defining game of this year.
Its not getting knocked down that defines you
It's if/how you get back up that defines you

I imagine they’ll take a moment on their knees…

They certainly had very high energy and we never play well there. Last time we played there Horston made a last second shot for us to win. When they played in Knoxville last year Tennessee blew them out by forty. I think when you shooting on baskets you practice on all the time. Sleep in you own bed and have familiar surrounding you are always better. Home and road is different for a lot of teams and most of the teams that are good teams usually lose most or any of their games on the road.

The point was with a lot of these team on any given night you can lose to them. Of course it is a bad look for her, but not any worse than some of the bad games other coacher have experienced this season. It is one game until something bigger happens the season as a whole is excellent. We can certainly say it is a bad look, but if your going to say that then you also have to take into consideration all the good looks which is seven SEC wins.

No
and players can't call timeouts to interrupt momentum and make on-court calls to discard the call of zone defense and instead up defensive pressure on a surging team when you have 3 fouls to give on a one point game with under 4 to go.

Everybody here knows I fully support and back Coach K...Everybody here also knows I will not give her a free pass.
I agree Coach. I think everyone kept waiting on the typical UT team to show up and by the time it was realized they didn’t show up, it was too late.

No one would love to see Saunders be a good player more than me but just because you’re tall does not a good player make. I’d love to be wrong but I don’t think I am unfortunately
Yes,, its kind of sad. She seems to be a very
nice young lady. Kind Of a favorite of mine but
in sports I've always favored the underdog.
