I hate that we have lost to Auburn and Florida but feel it might be helpful in this situation. It’s kind of taken the pressure off the Lady Vols as the more dominant team. Me just trying to find a positive but it kind of lowers the expectations and hopefully this gets us back on track with a win.

Unfortunately, the Lady Vols appeared like Humpty Dumpty the last two road games and tomorrow will go a long way toward seeing if the parts can be put back together again and if the parts fit and the glue holds.Quit playing one -on-one basketball and start playing like you have some teammates would go a long way toward reaching that goal.

Haven't watched but just a little of their games, main thing I saw, as with the men's team, too many turnovers off lazy or telegraphed passes, not enough high screens to free up a shooter. Rebounding, they are pretty good.
Players not moving out to catch the passes. You can't stand beside your defender you will lose half of the time on passes coming your way. You have to separate toward the ball handler. I will say wish they looked as good tomorrow as the men looked against Texas A&M best passing game the men's had this season.

I am just catching up to this thread. I believe I read somewhere that this is the first regular season women' college basketball game on one of the 4 traditional networks, which is a tribute to the history of the rivalry! As far as why now, this is the best weekend for college basketball outside of the NCAA tournaments. There is no football of any type and baseball hasn't started. Fox has been carrying the NFL every Sunday, so there is a scheduling gap for them. This leaves some openings for atypical programming. There also have slowly been some slight gains in ratings for women's basketball over the years, at least when it comes to the NCAA tourney and WNBA, so perhaps this is also a test to see if we can draw as high of ratings as some other alternative programming on this atypical weekend. I hope we can give them a good and competitive game.

Nah..UConn played a game this year that was broadcast nationally on ABC that brought quite the viewing audience:

I think she would have more success against her than a player like Ramirez of Arkansas still trying to figure out what that was all about. I mean Ramirez lit her up and should've in that first half. When we changed to Walker in the second half Ramirez production hit a low. I think from a size stand point she will be able to guard her don't know that will even be a matchup. I worry that they might try her on Fudd or Williams. The defensive matchups I have been seeing the coaches draw up in the last few games have not been to my liking and rather strange from a defensive point of view.
Docharme due to size isn’t a good matchup for most guards and Darby/Rae prob cannot guard her at this time, Horston prob gets picked to guard her, just my thought. I don’t agree Docharme is slow, and she has great moves to get her own shot. Tricky matchup unless you have a good athlete with a little size on her. If Horston is matched with Williams, I’m not sure who guards CD effectively.

Most sports networks don't promote competing network's conferences/teams/games. I wonder why ESPN pumps the Huskies so much/so often when they no longer dominate WCBB ???? 🙄
I do think that UCONN has an unfair advantage in terms of their players being able to intermingle with ESPN given their proximity. However, I don't think that is the chief reason why they are so publicized. Teams that dominate their sport over several years have more fans more haters, more name recognition, and most importantly, higher tv ratings. Examples from other sports include New England Patriots, LA Lakers, Duke/UK men's basketball, Bama football, and even the Dallas Cowboys though they haven't won the Super Bowl in years. The fact is that the Lady Vols have always been one of the most publicized women's teams, though it certainly has fallen off as the program has lost it's dominance it once had. Even now, they have many more SEC and ESPN games than most other teams, whereas many of the other SEC teams have more games regulated to the undesirable SEC+ stream. If the publicity of a team is underserving, than it will eventually get less ratings and fewer readers, and this will get corrected over time. Money does speak louder than anything, like it or not. Meanwhile, let's start beating UCONN and getting to the Final 4 and become again the top team that people talk about.

So that was this year. And if so, is our game this weekend just the second ever on the big 4 networks? I am so glad for women's basketball that it got such good ratings!!!

On Gameday this a.m. ESPN put TENN vs UCONN on the short list of college basketball's greatest rivalries, the only wcbb duo on the board. So a nice touch there. After the segment about rivalries they gave a short mention of the game tomorrow, with a chart of team's alltime wins, tourney appearances, F4s, and Nattys.

Say what you will about the Huskie-love ESPN is infamous for, I think the old guard at the network still appreciates how Pat built up the women's game that's become a huge part of their programming.

UConn by 10. Expect a big game from Fudd. Points off turnovers are a killer.
I wonder who we will use to defend Fudd. I think I would put Horston on her and Dye on Williams. I'm not against the Burrell vs Ducharme matchup as long as Burrell quits trying to cheat inside on defense. Muhl and Walker, Key and Ono, we'll see Westbrooks, Edwards and maybe if able Juhasz. That will be the extent of who they play so our players should get a good idea of how to play them at least by halftime.

When we play this game tomorrow 6 of our last 8 games will be road games. We get to spend ten days at home when this one is over. I am sure it will be welcomed by the players. Traveling can wear you down over an extended period.
This game is basically Uconn’s well rested 5 star players who had the last 3 days to specially prepare for the Tennessee game, who will be playing on one of their own courts, in front of their own fans, against what was an overachieving Tennessee team, but now is on the road, and struggling.

On paper, and seeing the way we played in our loss to Florida, how can anyone expect us to win this game? Still, we can win this game. Somehow we have to play hard from the beginning of the game to the end, and even then, pour on more steam in the fourth quarter. Wanting the win more than the other team makes up for a lot of on paper predictions.

Sports is all about unexpected miracle wins, anything can happen if you never quit. It’s time Tennessee beats UConn.

GO LADY VOLS!!!

Thing is, Lady Vols the better team. If we play our game, we win. No miracles needed.

A noon start? Dumb--not good for players, who normally don't practice or play games that early in the day. Players have daily routines and get accustomed to them. When you get these games that start at dumb times, it can throw players and teams off--as true for UConn as for us.

Kellie was happy with the early start, said she didn’t like waiting all day to play a game, just get out there and play. 😀

Actually I would put Horston on Muhl. Muhl is a mediocre offensive threat. And Horston tends to get distracted from her man when the ball is going the other way. Ducharme and Fudd are both in perpetual motion and if Horston is guarding one of them there is the chance that they will get free. Horston leaving Muhl to float defense is a low risk high reward option. Dye on Williams who likes to go to the hoop where Dye's height will be an advantage. Have Walker keep the still too passive Fudd from getting the ball. ONO works from the high post drawing Key out so the problem is going to be that Burrell/ Darby will be a mismatch down low on Juhaz/Edwards.

My other option is Darby/Burrell on Muhl leaving Horston to cover Juhaz/Edwards with her superior athleticism. Either way whoever has Ducharme or Fudd has to be disciplined or UConn will reverse and someone will have an open 3.

In other UConn news. Paige has her brace off but is only watching practice. She will meet with doctors on Monday to determine he path ahead.

Now is not the time to be negative about the Lady Vols., they are not the only team to experience letdowns and untimely defeats. What matters is what they learn from these defeats and become a better team for it. I believe that KJH is bent on making this team stronger and better, I just hope the team responds in a positive manner. We can beat UCONN if we keep our pose, cut down on senseless mistakes, hit the boards at both ends of the court, and take advantage of opportunities.

Turnovers, missed shots, blown assignments.

Quadruple double if including pouts.
Some times this sounds like Horston. Really not good when two upperclass players like Burrell and Horston turn the ball over this much.

No way we'll put our best defender and one of the top three or four in the SEC on their worst offensive player. I'm not quite certain what we will do was really surprised by the Burrell on Ramirez first half matchup. I think the key players to stop on the perimeter are Williams and Ducharme.
