From game notes....

UT will enter the 59th meeting in the series with a 50-8 edge, including a 23-2 record in games played in Knoxville, a 21-4 mark in Oxford and a 6-2 slate at neutral sites.

Tennessee has won 34 of the last 35 meetings with Ole Miss, with the only setback in that sequence coming in Oxford, 67-62, on Jan. 12, 2017.

The Lady Vols have won 20 straight over the Rebels in Knoxville, with the last Ole Miss victory (69-65) coming on Jan. 31, 1987, in Stokely Athletics Center.

Ole Miss is led by Shakira Austin (13.6 ppg., 8.7 rpg.) and Madison Scott (11.5 ppg., 5.7 rpg.).

The Rebels have held opponents to 50.0 ppg. and 34.7 percent shooting on field goals.

Ole Miss is averaging 11.6 steals per contest, forcing opponents into 21.2 turnovers per game.

The Rebels' 13 straight wins add up to the third longest winning streak in program history.

UM returned 10 letterwinners and all five starters from a squad that made it to the 2021 WNIT Final.

UM's Destiny Salary is a transfer from Tennessee.

Our last game with Ole Miss (game notes)....

The No. 14/16 Lady Vols fended off an upset-minded Ole Miss team in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals in Bon Secours Wellness Arena on March 5, 2021, winning 77-72 to advance to the semifinals.

No. 3 seed UT (16-6) was led by senior Rennia Davis, who turned in a career-high-tying 33 points and added 14 rebounds to record her sixth-straight game with 20+ points and ninth double-double of the year. Junior Rae Burrell had 18 points and sophomore Jordan Horston added 12.

Top scorers for Ole Miss (11-11), the No. 11 seed that had already ousted sixth-seeded #13/13 Arkansas on Thursday, were Donnetta Johnson with 20 points, Shakira Austin with 14, and Jacorriah Bracey with 13.

I have watched both Ole Miss and Vandy play and both are much improved ....especially Vandy with that new Coach who came South from UCONN.These could be really tough games ....both on the road this week.If the team plays like it did against A&M and do not hit a long drought in scoring, they should win both games.....if not then they could lose both games.

This will be a very tough game. I think our Lady Vols will pull it out, but I also think it will be tougher than what many people think. This game is like they're National Championship game. Ole Miss has just been waiting to play us again since we beat them both times last year. Coach Yo and the players felt like they should have beat us and they were the better team. She stated that in her post conference. I think we have a better team than we had last year, but I also think they do to as well. We're better defensively and offensively, but they are playing at home (regardless of how many fans they have there) and they so force a lot of steals. We have to take care of the ball and rebound, rebound, rebound. With Rae back in the lineup I think that's the hump we need to win by at least 10 tomm. GLV'S!

Both Miss and Vandy games have big trap potential but on the plus side, I genuinely think we can beat SC this season. We will have enough good wins to balance out any unexpected and/or fluke losses, and will continue to improve through SEC play.

I got this as a one or two possession win for somebody. They like to drive the ball and score in the paint so Tamari will either have 20 blocks or foul out. They are not that great from the three point line, but they play kamikaze defense and expect this will be the most energized team we will play all season. I am sure they are pumped to try to get a quality win that this would be. Hopefully we pound them on the boards and shoot the ball really well and get another road win. Tennessee 68 Ole Miss 63

This would've been a game where a lot of Tennessee fans from West Tennessee would've attended. With the covid spike and bad weather probably won't see it this time. Expect a bunch of Greenfield people will try to go this is about as close as Tess Darby will be to her hometown.

Yes, but thats who we were last year. If Rennia didn't play well, we struggled mightily. This year we have several go to players and a lot of young but talented facilitators. I like where we are now than at any time last year....no offense to Rennia.

This Ole Miss game will depend a lot on how the refs call the game. If they allow that slappy, lots of contact play, we will struggle. If they call the game correctly and don't allow muggings, we will be fine.

The slap-happy style of Ole Miss definitely concerns me, because if the officiating crew lets them get away with it too much and Ole Miss scores a bunch off steals, I'm afraid it could put our guards into a tentative funk. I really, really, REALLY hate to go up against that style of opportunistic defense.

I hope they all foul out like Arkansas and their illegal screens

Me too! And yeah, what is with all the illegal screens in basketball these days!? Some coaches have been getting away with it for years, but even more programs are teaching this now. And then there are the guards who routinely push their defenders away so hard to clear space for dribble-drives that they knock them off balance -- almost never called. Or hooking them out of the way. And, and, and ....

Now you've done it. I'm triggered! lol

It is quite the doubled edged sword, cause if they don’t let them play and are calling it tight, TK may be at risk.

Agreed. I don't know if the reason for the remarkable improvement in team chemistry this year is more because of players having left to change the team personality, or more because of the players who came in this year. Or some combination of both.

But what I do know for sure is that I would not trade even one of the players on this year's team for anyone else on any other program. Sometimes a team strikes a perfect balance of talent, dedication and personality, and this team, this year, has found that balance. Even one different person could have had a potentially negative effect on that.

We are beyond lucky to have this particular group of young women wearing Tennessee uniforms this year. From the player who averages the most minutes to the player averaging the least, this mix of people just plain WORKS.

I’m nervous about this one. I do think we have the better team, but will be going up against a really motivated Ole Miss squad. It’s a tough road game in conference play against a scrappy defensive team, so I expect it to be ugly at times.

It’s a great opportunity for Horston to show some growth by keeping her turnovers down. Against A&M she only had 1. Having Rae back really gives us an offensive boost. I think it’s gonna be important for her not to press or force things against their defense. She’s still finding her groove/rhythm though. And as always, Tamari must stay out of foul trouble.

Does anyone think Dye could guard Shakira Austin for stretches to protect Tamari? In last years SEC tourney game, I remember Kasi starting off on Austin. She loves the face-up game, and I think Dye has the athleticism to keep Austin in front of her.

Credit Coach Kellie Harper. They are all terrific players and teammates, but she is the chef that selected these ingredients, and puts them together correctly.
