Game Thread: (7/9) Lady Vols 63 - (3/3) Stanford 74

Kellie looking for answer. Rennie isn’t it, she looks like her heart is going a million miles an hour. Gotta get her out.

They were all way too jazzed for this game.

Not applying any pressure to the ball handler. Letting them drive directly up the middle of the floor and do whatever they want. Kellie is hot right now.

Zero effort at the moment. First time I’ve seen that this season, but they’re on their heels. Looking nervous and frozen in place on defense. We need to be picking up the ball before half court. We aren’t picking it up until it falls through the Net right now.

Team is too reliant on having Tamari to scare people away from the basket. With her out our defense falls apart.

Yes, this is a new look for this team. Looking nervous and tight and doubtful, I mean. They're going to have to pull out of it soon, else I'm afraid it's going to be all but over before halftime.

And with that, I'm outta here until the game is over, and maybe even until tomorrow. Not looking good for our team, but they'll be okay after this humbling experience, and hopefully they'll grow a little from it. Besides, they'll likely end 2021 at 11-1, without their instant-offense star player Rae Burrell. I'll take it!

Try not to be TOO hard on the kids, folks!

Horston needs to be told to stop shooting. If she can get within 5 ft of the basket then take it. But she is absolutely killing us --- wasting possession after possession trying to hit a jump shot that she rarely hits.

0-30 Rennie is out there now which is stupid as hell. Just dumb as all get out to have someone out there who can't score and we are behind 15 pts.

She hurts. It’s sad. If she’s feeling good she can shoot

Really, really disappointed to see us down 20 in front of a good crowd.

At the very least I hope they close the gap in the second half. This hole is likely too deep to overcome against a well coached team like Stanford. Our defense was non-existent in the first half. Sad.

Offense was non-existent as well. But our defense is the killer here. It’s been keeping us in games all season. If we don’t bring it to the party we are dead in the water. Getting bullied on the glass on our home floor also.

I’m sure Key was a big part of the defensive game plan and she’s played…4 minutes?

Tennessee has had sputtering first halves all year. This isn't really out of character for them. The real difference today is that Stanford is very well coached, talented, and its players recognized opportunities in their offense and converted them into incredibly easy baskets. That built the lead to 12 or 14 points on playing good basketball, and then Tennessee pressed and the lead ballooned further as the breakdowns gave more and more easy baskets.

I’m right back to where I was last year about Kellie. She did not have this team remotely prepared for this stage.
