Game Thread: (7/9) Lady Vols 63 - (3/3) Stanford 74

Allowed a pedestrian Stanford Offense to put up their 2nd highest season 1st half season total at home.

Very bad.

I’m sure Key was a big part of the defensive game plan and she’s played…4 minutes?

For certain, her teammates have to have her back at least a little though. That’s a lot of pressure to put solely on her shoulders. Our guards/forwards couldn’t keep anyone in front. They shot layups at the front of the rim the entire first half.

Offense was non-existent as well. But our defense is the killer here. It’s been keeping us in games all season. If we don’t bring it to the party we are dead in the water. Getting bullied on the glass on our home floor also.
After that half, I’m convinced our defensive numbers have been nothing more than a function of playing weak competition. Stanford has been able to do almost anything it wants. Same for the rebounding numbers too.

I think this team can overcome about a 12 point deficit to anyone. But 17 points to Stanford at the half is going to be a long row to hoe. Have to come out and compete though. If they fold and get blown out it could make SEC play scary.

We’re relying a lot on Freshman and they can be easily discouraged when the victory train stops rolling. Hopefully Miles and Puckett continue to play at a high level. They should both start the second half here ImO.

Right now we lack the foot speed to keep up with Stanford. Putting Renni in does nothing to help on either side of the ball. Sadly, the ladies are being handled on both sides of the ball. The inside is like a freeway with a welcome mat. KJH has to rethink her line up, right now she do not have a lineup that can stop Stanford.
