Game Thread: (7/9) Lady Vols 63 - (3/3) Stanford 74

I hope Kellie will let Wynn play some minutes in the next two games. Darby isn't making any shots and although she defended better in the second half that first half defense was horrid. Rennie is why? I like her on the bench.
darby needs someone like strpline seting scearns for open looks stripline has some good screns for sara and tess tenn needs sets screams for the three point shooters they are darby, puckett, hoston, walker

If I remember correctly December 22 2007 Parker and company went to Stanford and lost to a similar score of today's game. Candice Wiggins and Stanford shot lights out that day. Late March 2008 Parker and the Lady Vols returned the favor in the National Championship game. Maybe with a little luck going our way it could happen again this season. Stanford was the better team today. Hope we get to meet them again this season.

I remember that game. I think Jayne Appel and Kayla Pedersen were on that team as well. They were always burning us up too. Wiggins was a terror. Seems like she had 30+ in that game.

She had 19 and 12

Horston shot 26.3%, made 5 of 19 field goals and 7 of 12 free throws, with 5 turnovers. Her by quarter stats for several games would be interesting to see, as it seems she turns it on in the last half of the fourth quarter. Her defense is needed, but missing 14 field goals and 5 free throws, plus 5 turnovers is painful. Somehow, she needs to hit her shots for the whole game.

On another note, there is plenty to improve for everyone, and Rennie doesn’t score, but she did just play 3 minutes.

The team showed tonight they can be explosive against top competition, just need to not give the other team such a head start.

GO LADY VOLS!

Easiest and most difficult answer but most of it is mental focus. When she’s locked in she’s money. When she’s in Jordy land she makes things tough for herself.

Yes Stanford shot well that day. Kinda like they shot today with their 3s. Our team will get better going through conference play. They are a young team.

Last year we heard wait till this team goes sub 500 with no Rennia. We are seeing what kind of team we can be without Rae an early preview. What i do think is having Justine and players like Wynn next year those minutes that some players are playing get absorbed
Need to cut loose dead weight.

Crowd looked like a good10K. Good atmosphere, fun time for the fam. Very proud of the comeback, this is such a scrappy never say die team.

Pretty simple, Stanford has shooters and a crisp, movement based offense. We do not.

Stanford also has a great coach and Tamari Key was never going to play much this game. She's still way, way too easy to get fouls on for good teams. I was very disappointed in Key helping out in that effort though. Her second foul, the one that pretty much ended our chances, was a just a dumbass hip check, right in front of the ref. A huge mental mistake for her and she knew it. At least one of her later fouls was very ill-advised as well. Not sure how to fix that, but we'd better if we are to truly challenge elites.

I love Miles and Puckett so much. I totally do not understand Darby's minutes at all and thought Dye spent too much time on the bench in the second half. I suspect conditioning is still a problem for her.

JH never, ever looks comfortable on offense. Everything seems forced and indecisive. She's a great rebounder and very good defender and manages to put up numbers. But she remains a very poor shooter and 4 or 5 t.o. player per game. If she is truly injured and that's what's causing her inconsistency, she needs to sit out and get well. Meanwhile, I'd love to see Puckett take some of the shots Horston is currently taking.

I'm looking forward to the SEC season. Lets see how we do.

I’m curious What we’re Rennie and Darbys +\- values?

If coach Harper is gonna keep Darby on the floor for extended minutes, at least make a concerted effort to run plays to get her open. Like, run some screening action specifically for her.

I would say the same for Rennie. It made no sense for her to be in the game being that she hasn’t hit a three all year.

Kellie’s put in a lot of hard work to get us back going in the right direction. IMO, though, there’s still a lot to be desired on the offensive end. There have been some improvements since the last head coach was in place, but I was hoping for a major upgrade within the offense. Still too many broken plays, turnovers, indecision, lack of movement, etc. I know we’re without Rae, which is important to note.

It’s a long season, this team is gritty, and I hope we continue to trend in the right direction.

I believe Rennie has one three ball in two years...Not real impressive.
