It's partly her issue, IMO. At least our late legendary Coach Pat Summitt thought it was partly hers, and she was a wise woman. Obviously Joan Cronan was the women's AD back then and was an amazing advocate in the community. But Pat was the absolute queen of fan interest. She was like a machine in her tirelessness in engaging fans and thanking fans and asking them to keep coming and to bring friends. I loved that about her.
NOT that a young coach/soon-to-be mother as busy as Kim Caldwell is has oodles of spare time to spend on fan growth at this point, but she MUST carve out at least a little. And really, even though we're not reading news features about it, I suspect she's doing more of that than we know.
Caldwell is new to the Bigtime herself, and has said a number of times that it's taking some getting used to. I'm all for giving her a year or two to really establish her footing on the sidelines before expecting her to be super great at fan growth. She's got a terrific personality so I know she'll get there.
Her best fan-growth tactic will be winning, and so far at least, she's on the right track!
