Game Thread: Fla ST v Lady Vols, Wed Dec 4th; Home-FCC; 7:15 PM; SEC+ network: TN wins 79-77

Nope. Got overwhelmed in the 3rd but settled down, took control back and won the game. Don't think we would have done that without settling into half court the fourth qtr. I'm very encouraged we can play that way.
Kim's presser she said they weren't able to press because they weren't hitting shots in the 3rd. That took them away from their gameplay. Otherwise it sounds like they would have continued to press

I just don’t get how cooper was limited at SC. she’s so so good. avg 2.9 at sc and 19.2 here. she’s worked her butt off to be where she’s at.

This situation is kind of misinterpreted. Talaysia Cooper was a true freshman on a team with five or six WNBA draft picks and one of them came off the bench.
She decided to enter the transfer portal.
This is the exact same situation as Lauren Betts.
Things in Stanford just wasn’t there in year one.
Nobody truly understands why but both of the players and their former coach.
I believe it’s time now to move on from talking about Talaysia Cooper time at South Carolina just as people have done with Lauren Betts time at Stanford.
To sit out a year due to the transfer window, and enter year 1 of eligibility at Tennessee under her third different coaching staff and have her first 5 games at this caliber of basketball is unreal. Talaysia Cooper is on pace to become one of the best players in WBB.
Coop is a rising superstar.

Andddd yet so many people do not seem to understand this.
For me it's not a matter of understanding. It just doesn't seem more worth all the effort than just taking and making good shots in the first place. Breaking your back to cover for a problem you created.
should have played latham more and cut darby and hollinsheds minutes
I'm afraid this is true, and I'd include Sara on the cut mins list in favor of Latham as well.

Agree. One of the consequences of elite programs stacking talent and one of the best uses of the portal. Credit to the last staff for getting her here and for how they kept her involved last year.
I think, occasionally, @glv98 forgets The Stare, reserved for when Pat was mildly pissed:

…and definitely forgets when she was consuming a soul….

No I haven't forgotten and it had it's place and time but I'm less convinced those displays are all that effective any more outside of good theatre. I know others think they're still magical though. Each to their own.

Yes, but Cooper just paused and was clearly frustrated with herself after the turnover and didn't try to run back at all on defense. Based on the post-game presser, I think that's what she was upset about.

We know. You are set on this is Mike Neighbors 2.0. Jack a bunch of shots and hope for the best. Kim has her way and it isn’t changing. I mean we can go back to Holly and Kellie and question what the hell the half court offense is and when a player like Latson scores 38, we lose by 20 if you’d like.

Kim needs all of them to execute the offense she wants. Ultimately they will come around. Jill is already adapting and I have no doubt Sara and Tess will find their niche.
I think they're executing the offense Kim wants. They just aren't a very good shooting team. We knew that coming in; CKC said it was the biggest problem all summer and fall. We just have to hope one of two are on in any given game. I had hope coming in that either Sara or Jewel would be the consistent shooter but so far that hasn't happened.

Still misinterpreting the point. She was a true freshman. We’ve seen it in football here, it’s no different than Nico who basically sat out for a year but instead of transferring he stayed here and stepped right into QB1.
Some of the players in front of Talaysia Cooper at SC weren’t necessary more talented. It is documented that Talaysia Cooper vs Rickea Jackson last season in practice was an elite vs elite matchup.
South Carolina didn’t have a player last season or in Coop freshman year that could stop Rickea. So to me it’s a fact that somewhere in this situation only Talaysia and Coach Staley know the reason(s) why Cooper decided it was time to transfer.
Same as Lauren Betts from Stanford to UCLA.
Same situation that could occur in Tennessee next season or down the road.
It’s not just about stacking talent and the main reason a player leaves is because of playing time. There’s times when a player or a coach may feel like it’s time to make a change.

Yeah I didn't understand what CKC was so worked up over to call Coop out like that? Coop dribbled tthe ball off her knee trying to make move. No biggie, certainly not intentional. She was right to be making the move. I thought it was over the top.

Credit Fla St, it was their 4 th game in seven days. They seemed to get stronger.
i noticed that as well.. i girls look worn out and tired... and Florida State didnt..

There always has to be a Coca-Cola in front of her, doesn't there? She never even touches it .... but it just has to be there anyway.

We have become pretty good at product placement under Danny White. LOL. The label is always front and center, without failure.
i have noticed that as well in every press conference

The Thundering Herd went from 30.2% on 7.2 threes per game in ‘22-‘23, to 33.2% on 10.6 threes per game in ‘23-‘24.

They aren’t done in that area, I’m sure. 😉🧡🤙🏼

This has been a lowkey issue in several games. Is all the running and pressing and marine corp practicing taking a toll already? Some say it will actually work them into "game shape" as the season progresses. But if they're tired now after a week off, what is Feb going to be like?

marine corp practicing
Trained at two miles for months. Final PFT, five miles. They warned us of “The Wall” at about 2 1/4 miles. Fight. Through. The. Wall.

It got really easy after that. 28.5 minutes. I had never run distance before. I was amazed!

They will individually face The Wall, each in their own time. Hopefully they are open to sharing the revelation! 😉🤙🏼

You only get in GAME shape by playing games. Before tip tonight, we only played five games. We played one of the fastest teams in the country who was on their tenth game.
