Game Thread Lady Vols at Arkansas

Standard postgame replies after every loss: "I don't know." "They don't want to play defense." "We have no answers."

Seriously? What other coach admits that she's clueless, helpless and powerless to fix problems and help her team win?

I hope Dave Hart has learned to compete and win you have to pay up (Rick Barnes, Bob Shoop) its now time to turn that to the Lady Vols! Its time to pay up for a proven Head Coach (I'm not talking about Tyler Summit) I mean a real proven coach that has competed for & won conference championships I don't care who they are or where they come from (OVC, Sun Belt etc...) as long as they aren't long in the tooth!

Dave Hart gave Pat and the LV Nation what they wanted and now he's the bad guy. Funny how that works.

Now..if no change is made after this season, then Hart deserves the heat for sure.

Need a change now. Let an assistant take over. It might light a fire under team.

How many signed petitions would it take from the lady vol fan base to make Dave Hart consider firing Holly's useless ass?

Hart was relatively new to the AD position when PS retired. And she was a legend here. He certainly wasn't going to buck her wishes and not give the job to Warlick.

What game were you watching? Tennessee was up by 11 points with Nia scoring 4 of those points 3 rebounds a steal AND a block shot in 6 minutes. Nia sat the entire second half.

You're right about Kortney, though. She didn't play at all in the 1st half but when we're about to lose the game she decides to put her in the game to save her job. It didn't work. Holly is a terrible coach.

24 turnovers against an unranked team.

Coaching substitutions were horrible. Nia got WAY too many minutes for being the player she is in general and for being out for so long. It's laughable that Holly puts in Dunbar to try to help us get back in the game in the final 2 minutes yet WON'T play her meaningful minutes during the heart of the game. I wonder if Dunbar is thinking "screw you" to herself the whole time. I know I would.

The offense at times literally stands around with no one moving - even the player with the ball.

What scares me the most is that no amount of experience will help this team get better because they don't have an offense. You can't build chemistry in a fictitious offense. Average talent teams with good offensive schemes get better with experience and developing chemistry. We will never develop that with this coaching staff and lack of an offense.

Agreed but there are a LOT of very good players in 2017 and I know we are going to get at least a few of them. 2016 was tough for sure. It's been a long time since we threw out a bagel in recruiting.

I remain optimistic that we will land some good players in 2017. Not sure what the line from the coaches will be, but I have hope...

Believe me you I have my toes and fingers crossed but Holly is going to need to improve her recruiting. We need at least 4 or 5 recruits for 2017 and at least two JC post/wings and maybe a graduate student, from another D1 school, that still has eligibility. I feel that Jones is gone along with Graves and Moore. Let's face it, Russell will need to improve a lot to make a major difference and Diamond will need to play under control. We may be able to get by with 9 players but I do not think we will be much better than we appear to be this year.

In 2017 Holly has to recruit at least two to three recruits who can make major contributions from day one. The recruiting debacle for 2016 can have a major affect on this program. Has there ever been a major program that failed to recruite at least one recruit in any one recruiting program? I still think that Holly needs to shake up her coaching staff if it is her plan to make Tennessee an elite program. Based upon what I have seen lately we are headed in the wrong direction, which really makes me ill.

The only thing missing from our performance are the clown noses. Does the team all leave the court in one small car.

Just got done watching the replay and I have just one question.

Who is the unquestioned point guard?

Don't get me wrong, there were turnovers coming from everywhere, but golly geez...at this point I'd like to see Middleton run the point. Am I nuts?

They would be better off having Holly stay in the locker room and let Diamond run the show. It couldn't be worse, and it would at least put some life into the team.

Are you sure this isn't already happening? Diamond called the shots at North Carolina. Why wouldn't she feel entitled to do the same at Tennessee? She and her BFF Cooper pretty much do whatever they want on the court.

after the second turnover in a row to start the second half by DD, Pat would have yanked her arse to the bench by her toe hair. holly just fidgets on the sideline and things proceed to get worse.

Kortney is the worst defensive player I can remember ever at UT but her ability to make a outside shot should have her on the court.

Have you noticed that she has been sitting on her butt instead of cheering her teammates on for the past 2 games when she used to be leading the cheers? Tn is in big trouble from dissension, imho

You can't blame Kortney for her accuracy because the staff is not putting her in position to succeed. She is put in when she has to throw up shots from 6 feet behind the arc just to be open enough to get a shot. These players talk a good game, but they don't do or execute what they say. I'm afraid it's because nobody is holding them accountable.

I can't understand for the life of me why Diamond doesn't drive to the goal EVERYTIME she gets the ball...if she can't get to the rim, just stop and pop!

Okay I'm going to start this post off my screaming HAPPY FOUNDERS DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1908 ETHEL TAUGHT ME SKEEEEEEEEEEEEE WEEEEEEEEEEEE

Now idk who in the sam hell these girls are in Tenn uniforms playing this sub par basketball ugh they are horrible I had to delete yet another game from my dvr... I'm already over this season so I'm going to give my predictions for next year.. We land no top recruits in 2017, Nared transfers Cal, Mercedes transfers to Maryland , Kortney goes to Purdue, Te'a goes to UNC, Meme goes to Rutgers, Middleton goes to MTSU, Reynolds goes to UCLA, Jones goes to A&M. Carter and Deshields stay and Tenn declines to the pits of hell and WNIT appearances

Well, I watched the game and it is hard to be optimistic right now. While I want the team to be ultra-successful, even a blind person could see that something is wrong. Baffling substitution patterns, failure to execute a semblance of offense, poor defense, bench players sitting quietly like they are afraid to say or do anything, etc….

I don't know if it is going to get better this year either if the poor play is motivated by jealousy or dislike of the coach. Those things are normally not fixed unless there is some sort of exodus. I'm so disappointed right now and am concerned that all those "chicken little" fans may be on to something.

Dissension starts and ends with the head coach, Gule. Don't you think there was major dissension between players under Pat? There was. But Pat had little tolerance for crap, and the players knew it.

This may come as a shock to most, but the dissension on this team has little to nothing to do with DD; it's all about Holly's strange substitution patterns and unwarranted loyalty to some (Reynolds, for example). Dunbar, I've heard from reliable sources inside the program and out, is frustrated with Holly, not DD.

Diamond's first turnover in the second half was due to her rushing after a great defensive play and rebound. The second was when she tried to "force" the ball to a cutting Russell when she (DD) had an open shot. The third turnover was a terrible pass, i think to Holly on the bench (think about that one for a second). My point being, Holly's constant carping at the half about getting the ball inside has her team paranoid when they come out in the third quarter. This is the epitome of terrible, clueless coaching. DD had a great first half, yet her leader sapped her of all energy and desire at the half. Holly must retire!

What about Bash dribbling into a clogged lane and losing the ball? Why not criticize her? Too often fans find it easy to go after the true superstars (like the uneducated whining of fans who say Peyton couldn't beat Florida or can't win the big one).

This team has maybe a couple of wins without Diamond. Recognize greatness under incredible pressure (DD) and voice concern for ineptitude ((Holly and her coaching staff)!

DD may be great, but when she starts giving the ball away like Halloween candy, she needs to be corrected, harshly if necessary.
