Game Thread Lady Vols at Arkansas

Loss to ND, especially if it's close considering our current ranking (10-15 point range) and I bet we only drop to about 20 or 21... We only dropped one spot after the loss to unranked Florida.

Laughable. They will be out of the Top 25 long before they'll be back in the Top 10. I think out of the rankings after ND.

Okay I'm going to start this post off my screaming HAPPY FOUNDERS DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1908 ETHEL TAUGHT ME SKEEEEEEEEEEEEE WEEEEEEEEEEEE

Now idk who in the sam hell these girls are in Tenn uniforms playing this sub par basketball ugh they are horrible I had to delete yet another game from my dvr... I'm already over this season so I'm going to give my predictions for next year.. We land no top recruits in 2017, Nared transfers Cal, Mercedes transfers to Maryland , Kortney goes to Purdue, Te'a goes to UNC, Meme goes to Rutgers, Middleton goes to MTSU, Reynolds goes to UCLA, Jones goes to A&M. Carter and Deshields stay and Tenn declines to the pits of hell and WNIT appearances
:) :) :) Thank youuuuuuuuuu so much for that! I'm hoping your predictions don't come true however lmao! I deleted the game as well lol

Lots of comments from frustrated fans have merit in this forum. Coaching, playing, dissension, decisions, all are in question here. Substitution patterns are haphazard at best. Who is in charge of those. Usually an assistant, but which one. Player conduct on the bench was mentioned, but what about coaches who seem disinterested in what is occurring before their eyes. Offensive inefficiency and stagnation are increasing rather than getting better. One more question for everyone to ponder---why play a double low post against a zone defense when the soft spot of a zone is always the high post foul line area? Yet we rarely even ran a player through there. As others have stated, why wait to use Kortney Dunbar until too late? Again, suspect decisions by the substitution coach, whoever that is.

TN is shooting .411/.236 but that in itself under-represents the problem - if you take out Graves and Russell from the equation the percentage changes to .359/.236.

And if you look at the players individual shooting percentages (again discounting Russell and Graves)
Diamond is at .405 so well above the .359 average, but her 3 point range is basically average at .246
Of the rest of the team, the only three players shooting above average are Carter (.383/.308) Middleton (.435/.238) and Dunbar (.377/.293)
None of those stats is stellar but they are 'better than average' and surprising they account for a smaller percentage of total shots taken than do the three worst shooters on the team who all shoot well below that 35.9 percent. The break down of total shots taken:

Cooper/Nared/Reynolds 285 or 28.4% at .312
Diamond - 237 shots or 23.6% at .404
Graves/Russell - 231 shots or 23.0% at .584
Carter/Dunbar/Middleton 180 or 17.9% at .394
rest of team 72 shots or 7.2% at .306

Something is seriously wrong with the above! The best shooter on the team Middleton at .435 is taking only 6.3% of the none post player shots. The best three point shooter Carter at .308 is only taking 10.6% of the three point shots.

Dissension starts and ends with the head coach, Gule. Don't you think there was major dissension between players under Pat? There was. But Pat had little tolerance for crap, and the players knew it.

This may come as a shock to most, but the dissension on this team has little to nothing to do with DD; it's all about Holly's strange substitution patterns and unwarranted loyalty to some (Reynolds, for example). Dunbar, I've heard from reliable sources inside the program and out, is frustrated with Holly, not DD.

Diamond's first turnover in the second half was due to her rushing after a great defensive play and rebound. The second was when she tried to "force" the ball to a cutting Russell when she (DD) had an open shot. The third turnover was a terrible pass, i think to Holly on the bench (think about that one for a second). My point being, Holly's constant carping at the half about getting the ball inside has her team paranoid when they come out in the third quarter. This is the epitome of terrible, clueless coaching. DD had a great first half, yet her leader sapped her of all energy and desire at the half. Holly must retire!

What about Bash dribbling into a clogged lane and losing the ball? Why not criticize her? Too often fans find it easy to go after the true superstars (like the uneducated whining of fans who say Peyton couldn't beat Florida or can't win the big one).

This team has maybe a couple of wins without Diamond. Recognize greatness under incredible pressure (DD) and voice concern for ineptitude ((Holly and her coaching staff)!

I think your post is spot on post For the record, Holly did pull DD after her fourth straight turnover. Fortunately for Ark., other LVs stepped up to start committing turnovers.

There is a pattern of uncertainty and disorganization that transcends any one player.

Very factual observations. Good post. Now - you are Dave Hart and supposedly understand basketball because you played it at Bama. What does this tell you about the $2 million or so in coaching and support staff salaries you are paying? Of course the stats analysis needs to extend to the type shots they are taking and who is playing against the 1's and are against the 2's. But it jumps out at anybody with a basketball brain that her system and methods are not working. They can't score consistently well because of roster, development of roster, and system.

This is her team. She personally recruited them all when she was still the top assistant as well as being a HC. Pat won with a defense and rebounding first approach. Transitioned whenever possible and then used normally played half court sets. But she had a roster that was tenacious on D as a requirement. Her primary rebounders could root out a warthog they were so tough. Most would be so physical the officials would get tired of calling fouls. Not any more. Yet, Holly runs an offense that needs physicality with double post action. She runs a defense that plays passing lanes for steals and does not get physical. The rebounding is dependent on the ability to position and jump instead of boxing out.

If Hart is wanting to de-emphasize the LV's he will keep Holly the coach as long as possible.

maybe with the money tn received this year from SEC bowl shares, they can afford to send Holly packing?

How many people ever thought, that the men's basketball team would have a better record than the Lady Vols? It's coming....

I can't understand for the life of me why Diamond doesn't drive to the goal EVERYTIME she gets the ball...if she can't get to the rim, just stop and pop!

Good strategy against middling teams, but will not get the Lady Vols even close to the elite status that the program deserves.

What game were you watching? Tennessee was up by 11 points with Nia scoring 4 of those points 3 rebounds a steal AND a block shot in 6 minutes. Nia sat the entire second half.

You're right about Kortney, though. She didn't play at all in the 1st half but when we're about to lose the game she decides to put her in the game to save her job. It didn't work. Holly is a terrible coach.
I agree with most of your thoughts except about Kortney, if you watch a lot of games- men or women's it's not unusual for teams to put their 3 point shooters in.
