Game Thread: LADY VOLS AT AUBURN

Looking at the play by play, we were rocking along very well until a little over halfway thru the first quarter when inexplicably, KJH subbed Jordan in for Jaz at PG. Not for Burrell, but directly handling the ball. This is a good idea because . . . .?

3 quick t.o.s and our offense, more fragile than Grandma's china, never recovered. Its so unbelievable when we get an actual good flow like early in the game today and KJH blows it up with a nonsensical sub.

Sorry to disagree, but I don't think our t.o.s are speed or twitch related. I think they're stagnant offense related. Once our flow is disrupted, we literally play hot potato with the ball, no one really wants it while we're killing time looking for Rennia. Then we get frantic and force something. T.O.pocalypse ensues.

I wish someone would ask KJH about her sub pattern in a pressor or call in show sometime.

If we could come up some sort of plan to take care of the ball I think we could get all the way to the title game in the SEC. That is weird to say after today, but turnovers are the thing holding this team back from competing with the best teams.
Same thing with the Men's team. Strange year.

I must have missed something while watching but can someone explain why Jessie pulled her hands back and let the pass hit her in the chest late in the game? The only reason I can think of is she thought it was going to be tipped.
Thought she was playing soccer?

Or to spin it a little differently, if Horston had shot better than 50% from the FT line, we wouldn't have needed her final winning shot.

No if KJH went for the knockout when we had AUB on the ropes we would not be talking about this now. I have watch SC build a big lead on teams and not sub quickly.

glv, I so agree.....Our players are scoring in rhythm at will, and then for no apparent reason Harper makes these unusual subs...WHY? I wonder if she has a pre-set sub schedule she goes by....It made no sense, even after watching the replay, why mess with the early success...The players couldn't of been tired.

I do wish someone would ask her....

Al Brown, maybe?

"It's a long season. I think our players, they've been trying to get better. We're able to say we're tied for third in the SEC. I think that's a big statement for this team." — Kellie Harper

Memo to Kellie, you finished 6th not 3rd...

Coach she's been making these unusual sub patterns all year long...Coach Brown didn't come until well into the season....This just seems to be part of her coaching style....Got a hot shooter, take em out before they go cold....

I understand that GT
and agree
and it baffles me too

Usage of timeouts, initiating the HC press in their side of the court, sporadic subbing,,,all things I would have sat with Coach K and made sure she heard me on...

I am just glad for the win
if we had lost this game, we would be facing Miss St instead of KY in a potential 2nd round of the SEC
Of course, we still have to win round one.

Coach K has come into TN from a much weaker conference where some strategies worked,,,hopefully she will adjust before it is too late and understand that winning games and gamesmanship takes precedence over giving out PT

My thing with AB is since he has gotten here, not much in the way of gamesmanship has changed.

This didn’t age well.

No, she was very bad when posted....Yes, she made a great shot finally, but she was at the core of many turnovers, but she did make a great shot, so props for that one shot. ....

Coach when Al got here the team seemed to improve, then they just went into the tank....Not sure what happened, or didn't happen...

Al said he was reviewing the mistakes the girls were making, through video observance, so they would not be so prone to make them again....Never said it was directly, or indirectly with the player, but he stressed seeing a mistake is better than hearing about it.....

In any event, the LVs can look so good and then so bad, all within a few minutes....

That is the very essence of a young team.
But I do totally agree, they should be further along.
But, isn't that why he was hired?

One great shot doesn't change the fact that she had an awful game...
As our friend from Atlanta said - a winning shot is a winning shot!
I’m also pretty sick and tired of a few “fans” on here just slamming Jordan every freaking game. She is a freshman being heavily relied upon on a team lacking experience and depth. I think she has done a great job this season given all of that. Last year this same group hammered on Evina, this year Jordan. I certainly hope we don’t have the same outcome.
She deserves appreciation and support from the LV fan base. Some of the jack wagon comments on here about her are just way out of line.

Coach, I believe the scuttle butt about him was he was going to "help Harper" be a better coach through his years of coaching experience.....It seemed her coaching did improve, but the strange sub patterns, and unusual lack of time outs continued....

I do remember he was very high on Key and felt she would be the difference in having a good season, or a poor season...Not sure if Key is getting the needed coaching to excel, but I do know coach Brown is a big fan of hers.....

Key's offensive game needs lots of work...Her defense is pretty good though.
