Horrible game by Burdick, Massengale, and Harrison. Good thing Carter, Nared, and Reynolds stepped up. An ugly win is still a win

Sandvol: I think you and maybe one or two others DID say Reynolds would start at PG--and I couldn't see it. Fact is, she's become a much better player than Massengale, but then I'm sorry to say that Massengale has really regressed. Maybe she doesn't have enough height, but her game has really gone south.

Good teams tend to crank it up during crunch time--last 10 minutes of games--and we have done that more than a few times this year. So that's a good sign. We were bad the last half of the first half and the first five minutes of the 2nd, but we kept at it and wore down florida, even without Harrison. They started making a ton of mistakes--I think they had close to 15 TOs in the second half. Florida is by no means a bad team--they've got some athletes and they played a very active zone defense for two-thirds of the games.

Not to concerned this is the way we play against the lesser teams. Carter finally brought some intensity to get us over the hump. For most of the day we were in sleep walk mode. Something Holly can't solve with this team they can't get up for the bottom of the league.

I was listening to the game over the internet. Seemed like the whole game was nothing but Mickey describing turnovers (both teams), fouls (our team) and airballs (both teams). What a horrible game!

Mickey also revealed that this game came after two days off and no time to practice once they arrived in Gainesville, due to the Florida guys having a game on the court.

Holly is saying the team started out strong with Izzy hitting 11 pts, then had to go to the bench with 2 fouls. "Florida was in it to win it." If they'd been able to hold onto the ball or hit shots, this would be a loss, imo. Holly credits Nared with turning game around.

Lady Vols softball may score more points than Lady Vols basketball already 13 to 0 still in the second inning.

Yes, but some of those fouls were really bad calls on Izzy. I know FLA is unranked, but they have some very good players and it was an away game.

It was a good win against a tough scrapy team!

That one charging foul was ridiculous. Made the ref look stupid.

On Izzy's 3rd or 4th foul (sorry, can't remember which), Mickey was saying it was bs and was the 2d call like that made by the same ref. "So you know who's got their eye on someone." (Something like that - sounded like what we've been saying about the refs here!)

Florida sounded like they couldn't hit. Also sounded like they were out-rebounding the LVs, but the stats say otherwise.

Yes, Fla went through a drought in the early part of the second half, but they made some 3s and it kept them in the game.

A tale of two halves for sure. A-Mass and Burdick looked terrible offensive-wise. Just glad to win the game despite not playing our best game all around. Izzy and Nared had their moments, and kept us in the game. Look forward to SC game in a couple of weeks!!

A Mass had a really bad game. She forced shots and just couldn't get a basket. I think she had her mind more on getting those 9 pts to put her in the 1000pt club than on the game. Holly did the right thing by taking her out of the game.

Back from the game and watching the replay, it just went to halftime. All the negative comments I find do not give justice to the amount of energy that Florida was putting into their defense. That game was intense as hell. AMass did have a terrible shooting game but she wasn't alone at that. I was proud of ALL the LV's. The refs were BAD, especially against Izzy. I gave the male ref hell over one call, he damn well heard me... lol. was a very nice game, good amount of friendly Vol fans, great weather and a fast drive back home to supper waiting on the table. Wifey is the best! :)

If the refs were fair in calling the fouls against Izzy, we would of won EASILY by 20 points plus. Florida had NO ANSWER for Izzy, (clear as day) Looks like the refs wanted to even the game. Ridiculous!

Just watched the game on my DVR. These officials. I have no idea how they can be this bad. I don't just mean against us. They just flat out make phantom calls one minute, then let a player get clobbered and call nothing the next. You could really see the frustration on Jordan, CB and Izzy's faces. It's a good win. It wasn't as close at the end as the score indicated. Time to saddle up and move on.

Maybe I'm wrong, but Massengle strikes me as SUCH a SOFT player, mentally and physically. I just see no toughness with her--never have, really. There is no excuse for talented senior to have as many bad games as she has had this year. She was terrible in the Kentucky game, and has had a lot of poor games. No toughness and no confidence. Geez, you're a senior, get your head out of the clouds and play basketball. Warlick should get in her kitchen.
