Game Thread: Lady Vols at Miss St; 7PM; SEC network

As someone who played for Pat Summitt, Kellie Harper sure doesn't coach like her.
I can’t believe we won 3 natties with her running point looking at how little basketball IQ her coaching career has revealed her to have. Pat was such a basketball goddess. Could win with literally anyone

I love Tennessee LVs basketball with a passion. When the camera hits the sideline during games something is missing from this program. The face of one of the assistant coaches says it all.. it is not everyone on board with this sinking ship. They know it’s going nowhere fast. Jillian Hollingshead, Rickea Jackson, and Jordan Horston I feel so bad for these players when I watch less talented athletes thrive under strong/efficient coaching and leadership. I’m not a person that believes in quitting. I’m a realist. There’s time to make a change. Tennessee Lady Vols are my all-time favorite sports team. I’ve watched them since Candace Parker and Tamika Catchings days.. started back watching when Hornbuckle was balling on Rocky Top. This is not fair to the program or the players.

Wasn't she a 5 Star All American? And yet she is sitting on the bench, why? That doesn't seem to make sense to me. Surely she can handle the ball better than some of the PG and surely she can dribble at one of their players and draw a foul. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why she is sitting.

She is certainly no more of a liability than Puckett or Darby. She can't match-up with their guards on defense because they will blow by her, but we should have been in a zone of some sort and they wouldn't have been driving to the goal anyway.

Then on the other end she could post up Hayes and crew or shoot over them like they aren't even there. She can also make a better entry pass than any of our guards we have running the point so she would be a match-up problem for them too.

So yeah, this would be a tough game for her to be put in, but had she gotten time on the floor earlier she would be ready for it now. Instead we played others who have limited upside and have mainly topped out and are as good as they are going to be.

All of that would be OK were we winning, but we aren't. We haven't beaten a team with a pulse and we just lost to a zombie team that had no business being on the court with us.

As rough as this year is, I don't want to picture what next years squad looks like if Horston and Rickea head to the WNBA and with 0 incoming recruits

That’s why I say it’s just a matter of time. Even if Kellie survives this year, there’s zero chance she survives next year. At this point in the season we will all be talking about how TN has to win the SEC tournament or miss out on its first ever NCAA tournament.

If we make the mistake of bringing Kellie back next year we will blow the tournament streak - if we don’t do that THIS year

Very real chance of that either way next year given we have no recruits coming in.

Kellie put all of her eggs in the this year basket and it hasn't worked out for her.

Did anyone else see Kara Lawson and Duke knocked off #9 Notre Dame at ND yesterday. 20-3 and 1st place in the ACC

People keep saying that the Lady Vols need to look outside of the internal tree for a coach, but I don't understand why anyone would want to do that when an extraordinary homegrown candidate like Kara Lawson is available. Kara would be a great fit at the helm of the Lady Vols, and her Top 5 class would be nice to poach given that Tennessee has nothing resembling a recruiting class at this point.

Danny White needs to back up the Brinks truck and make it happen.

That was a tired lady vol team. They need a break..[/QUOTE
Seriously? Connecticut just played 5 games in 12 days with basically 6 players and you don't hear them crying their tired. The way Kellie subs, especially in the first half, if these players are tired, they are playing the wrong sport.

Next year is a lame duck year with the expectations and zero roster to get there. She’ll lose her two best players and potentially more.

Pissott is a Stanford wing -- She'd do great there. Here, we lack offensive schemes to get her open while she stands still and shoots.

Can you blame her...I don't...It's tough seeing other teams improve while we are regressed...smh
I don’t blame her at all. Just wish it were different. I thought she could come in and have starters minutes by this point of the season. 😢 I really hope she stays!!

The streak may be broken this season before it’s all said and done. Regardless, it’s hard for me to imagine her making it to next season at this point barring an improbable run deep into the tournament. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I really hope I’m not.

I can see her turning us down. She’s a good fit for Duke and was heavily recruited there by Gail. She may feel indebted to them for giving her a chance when others passed her over. I can see her being their Tony Vitello.

Didn't see the game:

Did we play any zone in this one?

And what happened with Horston: Her minutes were down and she took only 2 shots? Did she get hurt?

We were great from the foul line, I'll say that. Hollingshead with a good game.

They do not have to win the SEC tournament. They need to get to 21 wins - four more wins. Maybe 20, but 21 is safer by country mile.

I'm sure Coach Harper is very knowledgeable and knows the game but not everyone is a great coach who can translate what they want to do to the court. Its a skillset many lack. Some coaches also seem to struggle at P5's and thrive more in the mid majors.

I notice a lot of teams who went to the portal like crazy this past offseason to be struggling with the exception of a couple teams. Its clearly not how you build or sustain a program.
