Game Thread Lady Vols at Mississippi State

Don't make the NCAA's? We got a #2 seed last year and lost Taber and Kamiko. They were good role players, but I don't think they were so valuable that we're suddenly not going to make the tournament.

Contenders can show up at any time or place but they have their best shot at home AND when they are a Top 100 team versus a bottom 300 team. Everyone loves to discount the middle to bottom tier of a conference, but I'm telling you, that matters a LOT. That's the main reason you see TN in games like the ones last night because there is rarely a team that you can just show up for and beat. TN has a bullseye on their back and always gets every team's best effort and it's not bad teams. Most all of them can put together a game good enough to win. So, if we are off our game and the refs can't wait for the cheer from the crowd when they call a charge on TN, it can make for a challenging night. MOST of the time, though, we either play well enough or the other team doesn't. Unfortunately, in the LSU and Vandy game, it didn't pan out that way, but we face BOTH of those teams again with a chance to redeem ourselves.

I don't think it was a flagrant foul. It was an intentional foul. An intentional foul gives you two foul shots and the ball out. It is called when a team intentionally stops play by fouling to extend the game.
As of this year, there is no intentional foul. It's now called a Flagrant 1 or Flagrant 2 foul. Besides, I believe an intentional foul is legal if done for strategic purposes. That's why, at the end of the game when the losing team is obviously fouling, you don't get the ball after the foul shots are taken.

The only thing I can think of is Graves was fouled before the ball was inbounded. It IS a Flagrant 1 foul if the foul was committed while the ball was dead. Bad mistake by Miss St if that's what happened.

She was fouled before the referee handed the ball to the Tennessee player. The Ref was holding the ball when the foul was called.

The amazing thing is, if you look back at the game threads in this forum, you'll find the observers here always complain that the officiating is as you outline in your example. Even the games in Knoxville. Amazing. 100% of the refs hate the LVs.

no,just poor officiating by the SEC refs in general to me,on both sides of the court,it seems to me that the refs want to be controlling the game, instead of the players and you have to admit that the calls by each referee team is wildly inconsistent

Absolutely. Really don't understand anyone not seeing this. Officiating in all sports has deteriorated greatly during the past 3-4 years and it continues downward. Not sure what the problem but it certainly isn't being looked at by the NCAA.

well it was a ugly win for sure, but it was a win, which is a good thing,i was disappointed in the shooting and the damn turnovers if the Lady Vols had of made half of there missed shots,we would all be saying that is the way they should be playing

it isn't all on the coaches, there has to be a point where the players step up and say hell no,we are the Lady Vols and play like they are capable of,we all know they are better than they are playing, hopefully something kicks in gear and they play some Tennessee Lady Vols basketball
