Game Thread Lady Vols at Mississippi State

If we win a couple in the tourney or get to the title game I don't see how they will keep us out of a four seed. How many teams have beat SC, ND, Stanford, Miss. St, and Ky who they are saying is a 4 seed.

how do the bad loses play in ?

You can see it at the first of the game Reynolds was connected and ready to play. So was Jackson when she came in. Those two really help the big three when they score a few points make teams have to guard them.

When we came out and literally looked at Mercedes the entire first possession of the fourth quarter, I was like what the heck is going on? Luckily we got bailed out with a foul call late in the shot clock.

Didn't see the game, but from y'all's descriptions, sounds like maybe that was why they started the offense going into Mercedes. It slowed the game, gave a breather for our girls before kicking into the offense. Also sounds like it kept State in a defensive position that allowed our offense to flow through penetrating individuals the way it did.

I guarantee you this coaching staff has researched the history of basketball looking for tricks and schemes that would allow this team to "burn fewer calories" over the course of 40 minutes.

I am sure that was Holly in the huddle saying go inside. She probably had nothing to do with what happened was certainly the players deciding to take over and make plays.

You are the most negative poor sport I've ever read on this thread or any other Lady Vol thread. And you call yourself a "Volfan"? Why not just give this up if you can't be positive when the team plays well? The team certainly won't miss you.

Well in this game, other than a few specific plays, we didn't try to force it to Mercedes like we have been and the offense looked much better. I'm not sure what good it does to "burn fewer calories" when you lose as much as we have this year...

I honestly hope that it's the result of the coaching staff coming around and realizing that Nared and Diamond are the, hands down, go to scorers. Maybe making
Mercedes earn her points through rebounding and play, rather than giving her the ball every play, will force her to be more aggressive.

I really hope this isn't "the players doing their own thing".

Seriously? Please go sit down. You have no idea what you are talking about. Did you talk to the players? Did they tell you that? That's what I thought. Can't even enjoy a fantastic win on the road without somebody *****ing.

I thought that was a very good game. Almost all of the players played well, and worked every minute, instead of taking "vacations." I was sorry not to see Amidd after the first half; she has really stepped it up!

Lots of what DD did was not the "amazing", showy type, but was good hard work filling the needs. Very nice!

Jaime was incredible, and Nunn and Jackson did some good things. Nice to see Jordan play better, too.

Finally, it was nice to lead the whole game!

There are times when they should go inside if Tennessee has the clear advantage. With McCowan in there,MR wasn't going to get as many easy looks so it makes sense that they would go more to Jaime and DD.

tn had more big wins this year than anybody not named UConn, to go with some sad & bad losses to crap teams.

We had a great game plan we attacked based on how ms state plays and also wen we drove we kicked to open ppl instead of going in and getting a chargec

The LVs have been subpar in their last two outings, despite wins.

I look for them to put together a good all round game against MSU.

Nared breaks out of her funk; Jordan finds her groove to help DD and MR. The LVs squeak out a close win against another top 5 top.

Oh great swami, can you give me some lottery numbers?

We're the most erratic and ridiculous team in the world. When we play hard and smart, and want it, we can beat anybody--but we'll turn around in three days and stink up the gym. We beat South Carolina at their place and then had two horrible performances and losses--or was it three. Completely erratic--but our ceiling, when we play well, is pretty high. Alas, we don't do it very often.

guard play is a big question mark for this team

When it comes to our guards they seem to have major issues with their decision making skill set. Today, I actually saw Russell play a little D against MSU's post. I know she is ranked as the number 7 WNBA draft but really needs to come back for red shirt senior year. Needs to work on her toughness.

LVs are the only team that has beaten the top 4 teams in the SEC. If they had a double bye, they would be in a great position to win the SECT. That extra day of play and a short bench will be a tough disadvantage to overcome.
I remember lsu beating us with a very short bench after having played the play in game on Thursday.

I don't come to this forum much but I can tell you the last time I was over here there was several on here saying that Holly was crazy because she didn't require the ball being thrown in to MR every time down the floor. Obviously wasn't you who said this but it was being said often that night.
I would be willing to venture, if the next game MR is hot and DD is struggling, they will be back on here criticizing her for not forcing the ball down to MR. No way to make everyone happy..
