Game Thread Lady Vols at Mississippi State

I thought that was a very good game. Almost all of the players played well, and worked every minute, instead of taking "vacations." I was sorry not to see Amidd after the first half; she has really stepped it up!

Lots of what DD did was not the "amazing", showy type, but was good hard work filling the needs. Very nice!

Jaime was incredible, and Nunn and Jackson did some good things. Nice to see Jordan play better, too.

Finally, it was nice to lead the whole game!

Alexa was off to a good start but I give credit to Holly for recognizing in the 2nd half that the defensive match-ups were not going to work with Alexa. Fortunately, Jordan picked up the scoring slack along with Jamie having career night and Diamond making plays at crucial junctures.

Oh great swami, can you give me some lottery numbers?

I really did expect the LVs to come and play well and win but never did I envision a blow out!

They shot 66.7 in the 2nd half! And were over 55% for the game and over 50% from behind the arc.

That was a unusual and massive boost to their score line.

Whenever it looked like MSU was getting momentum, the LVs would hit a big shot; that has been an element lacking this season.

But shooting aside, the LVs played with a much higher energy level than their few last few games; they were winning all the loose balls and dominating the glass and played really good defense over the entire game. When MSU scored, many were just great shots that had been well-defended but on the whole, the LV defense controlled the game.

We are capable of playing strong defense--but then a game later we'll stand around and be terrible. Good teams are consistently good. That's not been us. I thought we'd turned the corner after the SC game--wrong. I don't think we will turn the corner--but for now, after a great performance tonight, we can hope.

I gave up in the turn the corner thing a while back.

This team can play lethargically and on nights when they are not shooting well, that tendency gets compounded.

I posted earlier that for all the talent talk, this team only has two players who are naturally quick enough to play at the SEC level at a high level of minutes--Diamond and Meme. Everyone else (including Nared who often has to cover smaller players, crash boards, and hustle back on defense) is almost always in the red zone. That is why I keep saying Te'a is a big loss; not because she would have necessarily been an AA-caliber PG but she would have been another physically gifted athlete that could provide some spark when Jordan and Jamie were running low.

When I predicted the win over MSU, I was betting that this team was actually conserving energy (though not in planned conscious was) knowing in the back of their minds, that MSU was their end game. Is that how they should be approaching games. No, not an ideal world but they maybe making some concessions to real limitations.

[Should the coaching staff have found a way to be compensate for these short falls. YES, though the options are pretty limited]

When the LVS shoot well like tonight, they do not have to chase back on transition defense as often and instead can set their defense, which helps them out immensely, particularly when AM is on the floor.

I don't expect this team to go that far in the SEC tournament given its game timeline; two wins and out I would bet. However, I think they can make a good run in the NCAA. A return to the elite 8 is within in their grasp, even with a low seed. If they get a break on the brackets, may even a Final, well I dare not say it.....

I'm stuck in Cambodia so I didn't have reliable streaming service where I was staying. Looking forward to getting some bandwidth so I can watch the game. Sounds like a woodshed whoopin'

you can't stream the ESPN link ?

Nope, you have to have at least 1 mb bandwidth otherwise it continuously suffers from freeze frame. I have an 8 hour layover in Bangkok on my way back so I should have better bandwidth in the airport lounge. I just have to choose to stay in the airport vs going downtown. Hmmm......

that sucks my friend,i don't know if there is a better link to help you ,if there is people ,please post it

Ankor Wat. If you get a chance, you gotta check that one off the bucket list.

4 straight days of waking up at 4 am to try to catch sunrise over Angkor Wat, and thwarted by clouds or rain each time 😠. But it was definitely worth the check mark.
