Game Thread: LADY VOLS AT NO. 16/14 NOTRE DAME

Maybe non-conference.... not even sure about that. But the announcers did say first win vs. T25 since 2011.

I think they may have said “first ROAD win vs. a ranked team since 2011.”

You feel elated. A young LV team went on the road and beat a top 15 team.

We'll whittle down the TOs. And we'll still be very tall and very athletic.

Love the upside opportunity for sure, hoping we capitalize.

This team is no where near how great it can be. The two freshmen Horston and Key can get much better they are not even close to where they could be even by SEC season. If we can get players like KK and Harris to come off the bench and play like they did tonight gonna be tough in any game we play.

Jazz has taken a lot of heat from us for subpar performances, so it seems only fitting for us to recognize her improvement and finding her role to best help her team win. Very steady and efficient most of the night and looking to get teammates involved. She's maturing as a player. If she can work hard to improve her FT shooting, she can be a huge asset.

Rennia was gangster tonight...in the zone of her own making. Jordan is like a puppy unleashed who simply enjoys the heck out of every moment on the court. She's become a team leader already. And the bigs really stepped up...Tamari being mayor of the paint and Kam and Kasi making invaluable contributions.

Key 11 points 5 rebounds and 3 blocks in 23 minutes. Horston 12 points 7 rebounds 5 assists and 4 steals in 23 minutes. Tennessee 74 points on 53 shots is fabulous offense. The turnovers the only thing we did badly in this game. 55 rebounds to their 28 and 12 blocks. They shoot 31.4 percent.

Davis and Massengill played 36 minutes each. Harris played 15 minutes probably almost as much as she played all last year.

I recall a blowout win on the road against Mississippi State in February of 2017 as well, when they were ranked #7. The final score was 82-64. That announcer was handed some bad info.

Correct. My son was there and said the State crowd was soooooo nasty.

Noticed a camera shot of KJH at the end of
the game just before the hand Pat's from the teams and she didn't look like a happy camper. I guess she knows she has a lot of work to do.

I heard them say this was the first home loss period for ND in 5 seasons. Nothing to sneeze at even if they aren’t the same team from a season ago.

First time in 114 home games that Notre Dame has lost to a team not named UConn...

That is good. 28 turnovers (I have never seen us win a game with that many), should be unacceptable. Most of those should also be easily fixed. They forced too much tonight. In all honesty, Notre Dame is not very good this season. That really should have been a 20-25 point game... but I will never complain about a win in South Bend.

One big positive (besides Rennia), we out-rebounded them 55-28. Now, that is some old school Pat Summitt basketball.

You're correct. Early on those ND moving screens/blocks could have used a dose of PatStare. They finally started to call it in the 2nd half...

10+ of those turnovers were tipped passes that went out of bounds....... every single possession was then given to ND ...... I’m sorry but no way was
this the correct call on each possession.... We also had around 5 charges called against us...... though turnovers are all bad at least these were not live ball turnovers.

I can see just a little bit of Pat Summitt (facial features) in Kellie. I would like someone to give her a hint to try and make that (the stare) a part of her sideline coaching style. I could understand if she would decline the idea though.

Tamari would not get as much of an opportunity so this was a blessing in disguise. Collins can’t block shots the way Key has shown so far imo.

HARRIS ..... in the game the last 2–3 minutes of second quarter and 4th quarter ? Did not expect that !!!! But she got rebounds and made baskets when needed ! When ND made their late second quarter run , they were within 4 points and Harris made a ten footer and scored two more points to take the lead back to eight . Just WOW
