RE DD at PG: It can't her to try her there---what's the worst that could happen, another loss?--but I doubt it will work. DD is not an especially good ball handler--she's ok but not great--and I'm skeptical she can help create good shots for others. We'd have to play Nunn at the 4 with DD at the point. And who's the other guard--Jackson? It's a recipe for more bad offense, I think, as Nunn can't score at all, Jackson very little. But as I say, I'd give it go just to see.
Holly will prolly start Reynolds, if she does, she needs to understand what kind of message she's sending to her team. I get it, you want to build her up, but she's not playing good basketball right now, or you can have 14 losses again with her at the point. Hello?
Change it up, let that senior Reynolds, earn her spot back, with her play in games, not practice.
Next game would be the perfect game to reinforce that, by changing the lineup, and giving those players minutes and starts are based on performance. Not on what they're gonna do.
Well what is the answer?
We are 4-4, 4-4!
Yes we played better but this should've probably been a win if not for the poor start.
Reynolds and Nunn are seniors
DD, Russell, Nared, Alexa, & Dunbar are seniors so if Dunbar is not ready how freaking ready is she going to get? Same with Reynolds, wtf more does Holly need to see from Jordan that she (and all of us) haven't already seen?
At this point (and yes the season isn't over but we're going no where fast) what do you have to lose?
Jordan wont be returning, so why not increase the minutes for MeMe, Dunbar, Harris, and Alexa to get them developed and have some sort of a bench leading into next season or we (not me but some of you) will be making excuses as to why these same players aren't ready as juniors and seniors next season (Harris will be a Sophomore)
Let's not wait like we did with Nia Moore (also MeMe and Alexa last season) get nothing out of them in a sense (for 4 seasons in Nia's case) when they could've been ready to go in a big game like Syracuse when you don't have Jordan and Graves and Carter are ineffective.
Why give out scholarships to players who doesn't fit into your plans as it seems to look like the case for Dunbar (too early to tell with Harris).
Even when they were scoring, it was still the result of excellent one-on-one play by Jaime or Diamond. When Texas played UConn, they got beat in the 4th quarter because UConn kept making the extra pass until Texas' defense broke down and someone had an open look at the basket. UConn had 20 assists on 26 made baskets; Tennessee had 9 assists on 28 made baskets.
They may have played hard, but they still aren't playing smart.
She sho does...and it's a beautiful thing to watch! Whew! ❤️💎🍊🏀✨
Exactly and if she (along with Nared, MeMe, & Middleton) are allowed to run more in transition and stop having to slow it down and run that slow half court (one on one) offense designed to make Russell the star she probably would play better!
Diamond and Nared are what will make us successful (not saying Russell is not) but we need her (Russell) to be more of a presence defensively as she (in most games) should easily be able to get us 12-15ppg, it her relentlessness on the board and being a shot blocking phenom that will take this team to another level.
Her rebounding/blocked shot leading to quick transition baskets allows us to set up a full court trap (if that is what Holly wants to do). The pieces are there, a few more adjustments just have to be made
We can run more if we defend and hit the boards more, 20 offensive rebounds eats away at our ability to run, that's not on the coaches, once again its the players.
In a sense it is on the coaches when you can't find time to put in players who would love to rebound and outlet pass for you. Nunn played 6 minutes yesterday against a pretty big line for Texas, imo that is unacceptable.
What other excuse is that? There was minutes given to Jordan that could've went to Nunn especially when Joyner Holmes decided to take Nared down on the block causing her to foul out.
We talk about Holly's lack of coaching but let's talk about her assistants.........WHO in the world are they and WHAT in the world have they ever done that is of a Tennessee caliber??? Of ALL the great coaches, assistants, former players out there, WHY did she choose the two that she did?? Can't blame Kyra for going back to KY with Mitchell who now has Lynn Dunn as an assistant!
I wonder if Pat did most of the coaching and the other coaches held a clipboard and drew a check. The bigs certainly seem lacking in their development. We spend a lot of time throwing the players under the bus, but you can't role the ball out on the court and expect players to get better. There seems to be a disconnect between players and the coaches.
Yeah, when she decides to play. Every know she has talent but can she be CONSISTENT AND EFFICIENT.
At this point we still don't know, let's let Diamond string along a streak of playing high level basketball over a few games cos 8-20, is just ok.
But I love the foundation being set by the team and Holly, love Nared's press conference, she is the leader of this team.
Hoping for better things from here on out, P4L. 😊
Me too. She can make us better team. She has to average close to 20 points a game, efficiently, and defend and rebound.
Realistically, my expectations for Diamonds, are those of Lady Vols greats at the 3 spot, near 20 points, 8 rebounds, (5) assists, a game, 2 turnovers, carried their team when needed kinda player. hmmm jury still out.
Nared, do ya thang ma!
I was sure Tennessee was going to win this one... and I forgot to record the game SMH. It was close though. Anyone know of a replay anywhere?
