Game Thread Lady Vols at Texas

What minutes are Nunn getting? Those minutes are going to Jordan? and are we winning now? When was our last win? How long ago was that?

How's Jordan getting Nunn's minutes? With Jaime playing close to 40 minutes per game every night and Mercedes playing over 35. That's her minutes right there.

Is it a coincidence that the we've seen the two worst teams in the HW era in the two years when DD has been on the team? Maybe it's a coincidence--but I don't think DD's enigmatic, plegmatic on-court personality has been a program plus. Maybe I misperceive her; one can only assess what one sees on the court. She does not seem to have much joy or fun or positivity when she plays, does she? This has nothing to do with her play today: She was pretty decent today; she was playing hard when I was watching. I am speaking generally about this team's ongoing woes and what role DD's demeanor has played in our troubles. Is it possible that HW and our system have not brought out the best in DD? That is possible--and we have a couple of posters who labor to make that point and tell us that DD needs more support, needs to be coddled--but great players almost always overcome that stuff when they step on the court--they play well and make their teammates better. That hasn't happened with DD. We thought she'd be the answer, and she's just left us with questions. Lots of questions. One could say this, to lesser degree, about Reynolds and maybe Russell as well--but they don't have quite the same talent as DD.

Well what is the answer?

We are 4-4, 4-4!

Yes we played better but this should've probably been a win if not for the poor start.

Reynolds and Nunn are seniors

DD, Russell, Nared, Alexa, & Dunbar are seniors so if Dunbar is not ready how freaking ready is she going to get? Same with Reynolds, wtf more does Holly need to see from Jordan that she (and all of us) haven't already seen?

At this point (and yes the season isn't over but we're going no where fast) what do you have to lose?

Jordan wont be returning, so why not increase the minutes for MeMe, Dunbar, Harris, and Alexa to get them developed and have some sort of a bench leading into next season or we (not me but some of you) will be making excuses as to why these same players aren't ready as juniors and seniors next season (Harris will be a Sophomore)

Let's not wait like we did with Nia Moore (also MeMe and Alexa last season) get nothing out of them in a sense (for 4 seasons in Nia's case) when they could've been ready to go in a big game like Syracuse when you don't have Jordan and Graves and Carter are ineffective.

Why give out scholarships to players who doesn't fit into your plans as it seems to look like the case for Dunbar (too early to tell with Harris).

Post of the Day!

My feelings exactly. Thank you for articulating what I couldn't.

I really did enjoy that 2nd and 3rd quarter I was so excited anticipating a win.

Anyway, thanks again for an on point post.

How about bench warmer?:thud::thud:

UConn usually assigns last on the bench the role of Rally Monkey (as christened by someone on the old ESPN board), whose sole role was to go up and down the bench and double high five the rest of the players whenever UConn hit a three. I think that role is perfect for Jordan, but she may not have much to do what with Tennessee's outside shooting.

I don't see what the point is in investing in her any further. She is what she is, and won't get any better. Might as well use the minutes as learning opportunities for players that will actually be on the team next year.

Where did I say she should be on the floor this year? Dunbar cant, Harris aint, and Nunn wont. I guess that must leave Jordan.

I didn't say you did. I'm agreeing with you.

Sorry I went back and read your post!

It still will be a long year regardless who is on the floor in my humble opinion. Stanford and ND will be loses and the SEC will be difficult as well. Just hope for the best I guess. They at least played hard for the biggest part of the game. Just got behind so far it took all the gas to catch up.

I'm not sure about Stanford. They may not have the inside size to stop Russell. I think they should beat KY for the same reason. Texas was a tough outing because of how physical Kelsey Lang is. Absent that kimd of presence, Tennessee should win games against most of the SEC minus SC and Miss State if they play at the level they did today.

If their performance drops below what they showed today, anything goes unfortunately...

I think we will walk in the sec 8-4 .. and we play Kentucky at home that helps. If we can then beat Vanderbilt and knock off ms state that would be huge. Now other theans wil play some zone so will be good to see zone next game

I've seen Stanford a couple of times and it ain't about the size. 3 pts made are more than 2 pts made and The Cardinal has 3 point shooters, lots of them.

But in all hopes if Tennessee can play lockdown defense like they did against Texas in the 2nd and 3rd quarters then they have a chance.

That's a good point. Texas is not a 3-point shooting team, and with Atkins out, it was pretty much on the shoulders of McCarty alone. This was not a game to test how good their 3-point defense is.

If Karly starts imitating her younger sister, it could be a long afternoon...

Yes Stanford is really good from three and they will sag off our players a lil more standfies plays position defense were Texas plays denial but if they play sagging man diamond has to play well and Jamie to open things up

She sho does...and it's a beautiful thing to watch! Whew! ❤️💎🍊🏀✨

And how often is that? She's not been very good for UT since she got here--FAR more bad games than good ones. Not a great attitude, it would seem. Very disappointing.

She's had more good games over the last two years than anyone else on the roster.

How bad is it? Warlick said in her post-game presser she was proud of the kids for competing! When that is what make you proud, when you don't know game in, game out, if your team is going to compete, baby, you've got some serious problems.

Exactly and if she (along with Nared, MeMe, & Middleton) are allowed to run more in transition and stop having to slow it down and run that slow half court (one on one) offense designed to make Russell the star she probably would play better!

Diamond and Nared are what will make us successful (not saying Russell is not) but we need her (Russell) to be more of a presence defensively as she (in most games) should easily be able to get us 12-15ppg, it her relentlessness on the board and being a shot blocking phenom that will take this team to another level.

Her rebounding/blocked shot leading to quick transition baskets allows us to set up a full court trap (if that is what Holly wants to do). The pieces are there, a few more adjustments just have to be made

Channeling Pat4Life? If she starts throwing out some "wuteva?", then the transformation is complete.

No I was not channeling P4L. Sometimes, when I am excited about something, I will make a comment that way and I have done it long before I ever heard of VN or P4L.

Hate to disappoint y'all. LOL

Exactly
Barnes was quoted as saying he wanted to win, not just compete.
