Game Thread Lady Vols at Vanderbilt

I wish Diamond would get her **** together

My sense is watching her is she is not completely physically healthy. Additionally if you watch her (or a large number of girls) there seems to be a lack of enthusiasm. None of them look inspired and excited to be playing. It could be that's how they look but even people who are serious every now and then crack a smile like they are having fun.

I know we won this game but this team is just hard to watch. Disjointed on offense. No flow. Too much dribbling. No movement. All the same problems remain. It's just Vandy doesn't have the players to take advantage.

Our offensive flow was good in the first quarter. I think our substitution patterns can't sustain it.

If the coach will allow her to play like she is allowing the other ones to she probably will. Reynolds and Russell seems to make similar errors yet play a bunch of minutes but its like as soon as Diamond makes a mistake she has to sit. Holly has a "star" if she just allow her to play her game and stop trying to force her fraudulent system on Diamond. Every coach has a system but when they come across a talent that is too hard to stop they let them do their thing. Look at Mitchell at OSU, Shonni Shimmell when she was at Louisville, Banham at Minny, Maya at UConn, Vivians at Missippi State, Epps at Kentucky. You rarely saw their coaches micromanage/try to force them to run a certain style, they made their players play to that players style which became better for the team

Epps at UK is always making bad mistakes and plays, but coach leaves her in and next thing you know, she's taking over a game. It's like she has to get warmed up, maybe Deshields needs that. Holly is always taking her out the minute she makes a mistake, I think it interrupts her mentally. At UNC, she was given free reign and it showed.

When Diamond was getting a lot of minutes earlier in the season and was a TO machine, people were complaining that Holly needed to sit her until she got it together. Now Holly is limiting her minutes more and has a quicker hook and people are complaining that Diamond needs more playing time to work things out. Good grief.

The issue isn't just Diamond making errors, although her TO's have been horrific, it's her one-on-one, or one-on-four offense, which leaves everyone else standing around and disrupts the offense. It's hard to maintain any offensive flow when you have a ballhog out there. Did we learn nothing from Meghan Simmons? And half the time Diamond doesn't even bother to play defense. How is insisting that she play defense forcing her into a "fraudulent system?"

No one ever said the Holly haters were logical or consistent.

Congrats on the win ladies. It was very much needed!!

The best player on the floor the last two games has been Narde. She has gotten rid of a lot of the rust after her broken wrist. Reynolds seems to have regressed Cooper seems to be coming along and is becoming more consistent. If they turn DsShield loose, she will be the best player in the SEC. I think she tries to play the team game and gets bogged down. He drive with the behind dribble for the layup was an indication of her talent. Russell looked a bit more aggressive and much better. She still has problems catching passes , especially when they are low. Over, one of the best games of the year.

You've got to take into account the type of people who post in the Lady Vols forum. Many of them are ONLY here to Criticize.

They post so many critical statements about Holly after every game that they can't even remember what they have posted from one game to the next.

Isn't this like the pot calling the kettle black considering you relentlessly critized Cooper about her play, but now that she is coming along very well, you don't even point it out. I'd rather be critical of Holly, than an 18 year old teenager that is trying to grow into the college game. The bottom line is that the players can't get fired, it's the head coach and the coaching staff that gets the ax. It's up to the coaches to make sure that they have a game plan that gives their players the best chance to win, and I think Holly has dropped the ball big time in that regard

As far as Holly is concerned, she has made numerous coaching mistakes this season, the most glaring being the out of sorts substitution pattern, even Andy Landers, Carolyn Peck, Sue Bird, and other ESPN commentators have pointed that out about Holly subbing to much. If these professional analysts are critizing Holly, it only makes sense that the fans will do the same, especially if the same issues keep creeping up game after game. I mean her team has led in EVERY game they've played this season, including double digit leads in ALL of their SEC losses. My own personal opinion is I'm not ready to give up on Holly quite yet, but I totally understand if other fans have totally lost faith in her ability to successfully lead this team and are ready for a new direction.

I was critical of Cooper because she was playing horrible, and I was reminding those people about what they had said about Cooper becoming an all american, or whatever, after she had only played in three games or so against nobodies.

I did not, though, continue to bash Cooper, any other players, or any of the coaches day after day, week after week, and month after month.

Cooper has very recently vastly improved her game. Sitting her on the bench for extended periods of time may have gotten her attention. Cooper can improve her play even more if she desires to.

Congratulations to the Lady Vols. They won at Vandy! For a minute there in the 4th quarter I thought they would squander yet another lead and lose. Didn't happen! Thank goodness.

Holly still doesn't know how to coach. The LVs are just bigger and faster than the Vandy players.

Mercedes has a bad habit of bringing the bball down to get tied up. I counted at least 3 times that happening. Got to wonder if Dean or CHW is telling her to stop that and if she does it again bring out the game and tell her to stop. It's annoying that she continues to bring the ball down. That's just one of the reasons why Holly is not a good coach.

With less than a minute to go in regulation Kortney is seen headed over to the scorers table with towel in hand looking perturbed and rightfully so. WTF is she going to do with less than a minute left? The camera also had a shot of CHW kneeling down looking rather bothered in Kortney's direction. There's some animosity going on between those two. Body language says a lot. Instead of rewarding a player like Kortney for her contribution in games she is being punished. Don't know why, though. But it's obvious by the lack of playing time CHW is sending a message. CHW just might be a spiteful jealous person. Could she dislike Kortney because she's a pretty heterosexual woman? Who knows. This much we know Kortney isn't getting any minutes.

Which brings me to MeMe Jackson. No development at all. Not in games, anyway. Holly couldn't grow a cha-cha-cha-chia plant let alone develop a basketball player into a successful system.

Next up at home is South Carolina. If we win this game it would take a miracle or Holly being too sick to attend the game.

Tennessee may had won but there are so many fundamentally bad things still happening with this team. Fire Holly, NOW!:D

One promising aspect of this game is the speed at which Diamond played. She had some plays where she just streaked down the floor (one time it led to a wide open lay-up; another was her highlight at the end of the game and unfortunately, several times, the PGs tea or Draya did not find her). Nonetheless, that kind of play can really open up offensive options for the LVs. I now am convinced that Diamond is only now starting to get healthy. She moved quite differently than in past games. We may yet see a game changing player by season's end.

Jamie as well is clearly getting into the zone. We all underestimated how much of a set-back a broken hand and missing games might have been. Nared and DeShields could be a very dangerous one-two punch down the stretch.

Across the board this game was a definite step in the right direction. I hope the LVs can keep building on this momentum.

I don't think HW is doing a good job as coach. I think the LV's need a change there.

But just wow to the venomous, vitriolic, hate filled posts in here. HW doesn't like KD bc she's pretty and heterosexual? ...

Some of you people are sickening.

Soo Steph Sorenson said that Graves looked like a 3 player during shoot around and has a nice stroke.. So when are we going to see that versatility

First game we've came close to playing the actual game we should be playing. We still took 12 threes missed them all 0 for 12 so unless Dunbar or Middleton is in there should be less than 10. We won the boards 36 to 24 finally boxed out and dominated in an area that Summitt always dominated. 24 free throws drive the ball mid-range shots or get fouled. This is our game with this team doubt we keep it all together going forward but this is the way we win games.
