We have a couple games under our belts, and today will begin to show our true colors against a team about our equal in Morgantown, West Virginia. I hope above all that they have a safe, healthy journey and gain some game, and game-of-life experiences. After all, we’re in the early part of a season that could, at any moment, be cut short. Then what?
We’ve seen improvement amongst all of them and we have a coach bent on rewarding effort, basketball smarts, and that all-too-elusive Team First attitude with playing time. Some of them have looked a little tense, and for those of you clamoring for that shortened bench, I’m with you. In fact, at the ETSU game it appeared to reach all the way down the sideline, and even turned the corner.
A couple, three of these gals will not play much moving forward, because moving forward is what a good team must do. Whether our starters were on the floor - together - enough to suit some of you in the first two games, however, will do little to solve our biggest problems. Our bad habits are almost ALL Individual problems within their Individual games. Nothing more, nothing less. A bad decision is a bad decision, regardless of who the teammates are. You should never drive to the basket with your eyes down; you should never throw a fastball at a teammate three feet away, and so on. Sure, there’s that “familiarity” component. But, that’s rarely been the cause for so many of our hiccups. Playing smarter will do more, chemically speaking, than any change in on-court personnel.
Go Lady Vols!
