Agreed Sandvol. And this is such a young team, too, as evidenced by all the strike-outs (the only low point for the team in this game IMO). I almost don't care if Alabama wins the next two, I feel so good about this team's future. But Gabriel, boy, she was really focused.

And those recent posts from people talking about how she was a bust or whatever.

Don't really pay those people much mind. Most fans aren't really students of the game. They'll tune in and get upset if we don't win but they don't really try to understand what is going on with the team or an individual player-they don't try to understand the process. And, they don't try to learn about the game. I never played fast pitch softball (since I'm a guy) but I played baseball and I try to understand the fundamentals of the game-throwing, pitching, hitting, fielding, running etc. and what goes into it. I'm a very analytical person. Most fans don't do that because they won't or they can't. Most of the posters who you describe as bashers fit into that category. What they only know is that we didn't win or that player sucked. They don't really understand what is going on behind the scenes. So, don't pay them any mind. (Also, P.S., I thought that move by Ralph to pull her was stupid because she was pitching so well but he did have an epiphany and corrected it.)

I agree Sandvol about Ralph. I think he pulled her at a 2-0 count with no one on base. I would have probably let her go at that point and wait for the moment she puts 2 on.

I thought she and Karen (pitch calls) did a really good with the pitching last night. considering the strike zone. I don't know how effective Rainey will be this weekend since shes more of a drop ball pitcher whereas Bama's weakness if laying off the rise ball.

why not go back to Gabriel for at least one of the two remaining games? I remember when pitchers could pitch endlessly--would go back to back, start 30 games a year, throw for 10 innings, etc.

The technology/film study of pitcher habits, pitch sequences in combination with better hitters/bat technology really doesn't allow for that type of pitching rotation pattern anymore. You need at least 2 serviceable pitchers for a 3 game weekend series.

I look for them to pitch her on Sunday. Theres too much on the line with the 4 seed for the SEC in play and potentially playing for a top 8 seed and super regional host in the NCAA tournament.

I still think with Gabriel her hip tires faster than a completely healthy hip so I know they watch her pitch count.

P.S.-I also think her hip must be feeling a heck of a lot better because their hip rotation is the source of putting spin on the ball and her spin looks great. Spin for a softball pitcher is success or failure.

They still watch Erin's pitch count because of her hip is my guess.

But really it's almost a crap shoot no matter who pitches - the pitching has been so inconsistent I know Ralph and Karen have to be pulling their hair out. I look for multiple pitchers tonight. Alabama has to be angry they stranded so many base runners last night. They will be loaded for bear tonght.

Three runs won't get it done tonight is my opinion. I would like to have some of those runs from the MSU series to use tonight.

And Gule, that centerfield camera view of the pitcher is corrupting you! :)

Alabama's pitching isn't in the best of shape right now either. Osario threw 140 pitches last night, Littlejohn has had a nagging foot problem lately that has impacted her pitching, and Jury is very hitable. If Littlejohn is healthy then look for her to go the majority of the way tonight, if not then pitcher by committee for Bama.

Interesting info about Bama's pitchers. I did not know. Thanks.

Did anybody notice the LV's fielding is also improved? With the exception of Lewis's bobble in centerfield and Aldrete dropping the foul ball, the fielding I thought was exceptional. McSwain, Gregg, and Geer all made several big plays. Gaffin letting the long foul ball drop in the bottom of the 6th I believe it was with the bases loaded was an especially heady move.

I will admit of saying and thinking Gabriel has been less than advertised. I don't blame her personally, it's not because she is lazy or has a bad attitude, it was just bad luck. A pitcher as hyped as she was should be a 4 year contributor, or at least 3. Looks like we'll get about 1 1/2 - 2 years out of her. But again, it's not her fault, we can only speculate how things would have played out with a healthy Gabriel for all 4 years.

Part of my frustration is that UT has had the luxury of putting one or more Renfroe sister in the circle for the previous 5 years. And part of it is the Weekly's admitting they promised not to recruit a pitcher for two years to get Gabriel to sign. As important of a position pitcher is, I do not agree with telling a recruit they won't recruit any competition for 2 years. Imagine if Butch did that with quarterbacks?

They had such a tough spring weather wise I felt their fielding would get better with more playing time.

Why be so impatient? You know the Weekley's have been consistently successful. Just sit back and enjoy the process. I am glad it is a little different every year. Variety is the spice of life.

One thing everyone has to understand about these coaches and that includes most big time coaches in women's softball is the health of the players is the paramount importance not wins. Wins are a very close second but they don't want to help cause some injury to these girls that they would have to carry for the rest of their lives. It is only a game

Yeah, but it is painful to see Bama and Flori-duh win titles recently :p

but you have to admit...not recruiting for the most important position for two years because of a promise to another recruit probably wasn't the best decision...:ermm:

Recruiting is a potentially very ugly business. My personal position has always been that when a player shows up at UT, then I start to follow them and find out a little about them. Prior to that, they don't exist as far as I am concerned. And I don't mean that in a bad way, I just feel like I'm better off keeping my nose out of recruiting. It's like sausage - you're better off not knowing how it's made.

I just finished watching a recording of last nights game,I was very impressed with the way Erin pitched,it was a hard fought game and I was glad the Lady Vols won a tight game like that

and wasn't Erin out with a minor injury last week ? and she got some rest in between starts and pitched a damn fine game last night,at a guess I would say her hip surgery is still lingering, one of the announcers from a week or so ago,did say conditioning might be the biggest problem as far as her getting over it this year, the time off helped her control a lot or so I think ,for what that is worth :)

I'm assuming that Aucion will be pitiching tonight, not sure about that though :)
