An error, walk and two wild pitches is not how you start an SEC game. We have given up too many runs like that this year and it is why we are not a serious contender, at this point. Let's get it together tomorrow. I assume the game will start over and not be a continuation of game one.

we were lucky to only give up 1 run. Was the official ruling wild pitches! Both should have been stopped. It said postponed which makes me think will start with Vines starting to bat and Leach on first.
That catcher was Hannah Akamine who I think transferred one of the Oregon schools.
Word then was she wanted to give up softball because she was in love and tired of the time it takes to be great. The Weekleys tried to talk her into staying but with Aldrette going to get all the games she left. She was from the left coast so she was going back home in a way.

Aldrette?

Aldrette just left after last year I think but she was not an offensive liability. Before her was Akamine who was somewhat one.

Akamine is the player I'm thinking of. I think the Weekly's recruited over her with Aldrete--but as I recall she was a damn good catcher. Mind you, Aldrete had an outstanding freshman season until her soph season went south and she geeked on us.

SCHEDULE CHANGE: UT & Auburn to Play Doubleheader Sunday - University of Tennessee Official Athletic Site

Inclement weather postponed the series opener between No. 13/12 Tennessee and No. 3/3 Auburn tonight after just half an inning of play. The game will be resumed at 3 p.m. tomorrow with Game 2 of the series still slated for its original start time of 7 p.m. tomorrow night.

Tonight’s game will resume with no outs and Aubrey Leach on first base after a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first inning. Auburn scored a run in the top of the first and leads 1-0.

Tickets purchased for tonight’s game will be good for the first game of the day tomorrow, but not for the second game. Game 1 tomorrow will be streamed on SEC Network +/WatchESPN while Game 2 will be on ESPNU. Fans can also listen to both games live on WNML AM 990

That is correct. Aldrette transferred to Cal where I believe her boyfriend a former Vol transferred. Koenig also transferred from UT as well. Both ladies were from the left coast as well. I saw that neither was tearing it up at Cal earlier in the season.

Bad play by Aucoin (how could she??) and Overstreet (a good catcher would've blocked & kept those balls in front of her preventing a run being scored). This team collectively is a defensive liability and the lack of good defense will keep the team from advancing far in the postseason -- unless it gets corrected RIGHT AWAY! I still think our pitching may be good enough to get the team to OKC especially IF we get a top 8 seed. It's the defense which worries me a great deal. In a closely contested game(s), our fielding errors could mean the difference.

I thought Moss looked good, and she came out ready to play. But when Aucoin made that inexcusable first error I knew Auburn would score a run or two. At least. Glad TN limited the damage to just one run. SMH.

If Tennessee somehow wins the first game tomorrow, I have a feeling that we may very well sweep the doubleheader with Erin Gabriel in the circle for Game #2. Our seniors got to step up and lead the way, but tonight they failed. They will get another chance tomorrow. We'll see.

Matty was throwing great and clocked at 68-70 on all her pitches. Her fire and attitude is her greatest asset . As I said the second pass ball was so fast Overstreet did not get over or even get the glove near it. I like you, think the defense will stop us from going far. Pitching is and always has been the straw that stirs the drink and Matty is a great one. Hope Erin and Rainey can carry their weight and with minimum errors we can get two games this week and complete the sweep against Ole Ms.

I still don't accept Akamine's excuses, e.g., lost passion for the game; she knew she lost the starting catcher job to Aldrete, and that's why she transferred to Oregon St after her junior yr. But she had some memorable games for us, esp. in 2013 WCWS. She hit some clutch hits when Tennessee needed them most, played a big role in helping the team advance to its second Championship Series. She was definitely the best defensive catcher I've seen in the past 8-10 yrs, better than Ashely Andrews, Annie Aldrete or Lexi Overstreet. But as mentioned, her bat wasn't that reliable. But her defense was very solid, and she didn't give up easy runs/bases to the opponents due to her errors. Would you rather start a good defensive-minded catcher with limited hitting ability (Aubree Munro for Florida) or a good offensive-minded catcher with questionable defense (Lexi Overstreet)? I'd have to go with the former at this point. :)

I would take Akamine over Overstreet in a California second. As a matter of fact Hannah I think did lose some of her passion. She had 2 older sisters that played at Arizona and Penn State I think and she had been involved in softball for ever. Probably some pressure in her mind at least to follow in their footsteps. I also had heard from a very reliable source that her boyfriend ( Brett Saberhaggens son) had completed his eligibility at UT and they were going to get married. I not sure the marriage happened but I believe he is in California as well. But she was a very good catcher and a decent arm and had a little fire in her belly as well. I just think she had burned out and went on to Oregon State to complete her degree. Better defense than anyone I remember but Aldrette getting the starts and press had to hurt. I guess we will see what happens next year but I would hope Lockman can lock it down until Madison's sister gets here.

I'm certain Akamine left because she was going to lose her starting job. I don't know if Aldrete could have played another position--probably not--but that would have been ideal. I hate to see kids transfer after their sophomore or, even worse, junior seasons--that's bad. It just happened with Amy Neal on the soccer team: Two year starter who, I'm betting, was told she was not going to play that much this fall and left to play her final year elsewhere. Not good. This is the tough side of major-college athletics: You think everything is rosy when you are recruited to a big sports school and are playing regularly--dream come true--but coaches are under pressure to win and always looking to find better players and build a better team, and positions are lost.

Let's beat auburn a couple of times today....
