Game Thread: Lady Vols v UCONN; Thurs. 8PM; on ESPN

Griffin certainly gets fouled a lot because of that. Edwards draws her fouls in the post. The other thing is the fouls on putbacks, which the 3 bigs all do a good job of doing. The team as a whole is a very good FT shooting team usually.

We're gonna have to play great defense and rebound the ball to win this game. And we'll have to throw all of our considerable depth at them.

UConn 80-60. UT turns it over 20 times. Rickea will need to play entire game to keep it closer and Horston will have to play on a much higher level than previous games. And please, keep the ball out of Powell's hands at the end of the quarter--any quarter. Kudos however on a most memorable, and improbable, comeback against MO. Say what you will, but Auriemma does have a knack for recruiting true difference makers, much like a one of a kind LVol coach once did.

UCONN also has a turnover problem - a negative turnover ratio in fact. UT has to get Jackson at least 20 shot attempts to have any shot of winning. Jackson will be probably be the best player on the court tonight and when a team has the best player on the court they have a decent chance to win against anybody especially at home. Mizzou shot 60 percent in the second half. I shudder to think what kind of percentage UCONN will shoot if the LVs play that level of D. Geno has a knack for landing the overall number one recruit year in and year out.

Yes Rickea needs to take at least 20 shots, and play 30 plus minutes.

That's the problem. I don't think Rickea will be the best player on the court. Close 2nd, but I think that Edwards clearly has the advantage. What will be very interesting to watch is if they end up guarding each other. Who wins? The speed of Jackson or the strength of Edwards? And who can get who in foul trouble will play a huge factor on which team wins.

I think the key to this game will be point guard play. If Walker and Powell can defend the opponent PG and distribute fficiently on offense, we will be in this game.

Edwards will be a problem but Rickea will be the best player on the floor.

I 100% agree that the game plan runs through Jackson. Go to her early and often. She's great at drawing fouls and getting to the FT line. Uconn will have to decide whether to risk foul trouble with a short bench or allow her to take high-percentage shots. If they pack it in, Darby and Puckett have to make them pay.

It's a prime time tradition game for lady's basketball, so at least the refs will have reason to keep it close, if you believe in such things.

I think it comes down to the Tennessee front court vs the UConn front court. UConn PG will be looking for assists first and foremost. She’s not a scorer, and she’s also bigger than the Tennessee PGs. Maybe take away her passing lanes but she’s not gonna burn teams with scoring unless they are daring her to shoot.

Horston Had 26 a year ago in Connecticut. She also has the talent to score against this team. If Both Jackson and Horston are playing well, that is a headache for Geno.

Mulkey had Griner and Simms plus veteran juniors/ seniors for 3 years -- how many NCs? #? 2? Nope, merely 1.

Muffet had for 7 seasons in a row 4-6 prior/ current/ future AA's and won a single NC that was helped by two buzzer beaters.

VanDerveer had Wiggins/ Apel/ Pedersen/ Ogumwike sisters/ and excellent starters and got 0 NC's.

Did Stringer with all the talent she had at 3 different schools ever win a NC? Heck, did she ever win 30 games?

Auriemma won with a stacked team and won with likely the 2nd or 3rd best team that season, or with a single AA.
