Game Thread: Lady Vols v Vanderbilt: Sunday 2PM: SECN+ Win 85-59

Actually, much as we love to fan fic these things, she didn't. Said that in a couple of post game interviews. Said she reminded them what they were supposed to be doing then told them to clean the slate, start over in a tie game, and this time get it right. They did.

But for those that love coaching performative art and think KJH never does it, they play a vid of her going hard after them on the big board as part of the pregame pump up show. She just knows it's more effective if not overdone. Bobby Knight's players said by the end of his career their biggest fear was that they might actually laugh out loud at what they called "BK Theatre."

Interesting comment about Knight. His players certainly knew him a helluva lot better than anyone else, but based on all we know of him I'd find
it /very/ surprising if there was much theater in his coaching or in his interactions with his teams. Maybe, as you say, there was some of it very late in his career--but he was a genuinely tough, demanding, emotional, hard-nosed guy. Same with Summitt: There might have been a bit of theater now and then, but she was genuinely tough and demanding. Players can spot theater; they know the personalities of their coaches and can detect when they're not being genuine.

I think we've lacked hard-nose in our coaching since Summitt retired, and it's been a problem. I have a sense that they've not been demanding enough, because we've had very mistake-prone teams for a long time. I never got a sense--from a distance, admittedly--that the players really respected Warlick. Great coaches elicit a mix of respect, fear and affection from their players. I think we've been missing one or two of those elements. Some coaches do try to fake being tough at times, but as I said, players who are around their coach every day and know what they're really like.

They need a coach in the mix that isn't easily impressed

Everyone knows we won 86 to 59 so were shorted a point on the title so we lost by 13 when Jordan Walker was not in there and only won by one point the 27 minutes Jill was on the bench.

I don’t see any C on South Carolina roster who can matchup with Jillian Hollingshead versatility. TN matches up better with South Carolina than LSU does.

I love the Lady Vols with all my heart and soul, let's be realistic the chances they will get beat by South Carolina is a high probability. That should not stop the team from playing their best and playing a good game. Miracles have happen in sports before and it will happen again. Go Lady Vols and refuse to give in or give up.

For anyone to beat SC, they will have to play great high-effort D, shoot 40% behind the arc, and get to the FT line.

I don't think there is a team in the country who can beat South Carolina.

If we combined our two teams into an All-Star team with 12 players; ten would be from South Carolina. They have high skilled depth.

I wouldn't go that far. Stanford had them and let them off the hook. UConn gave them all they wanted without Fudd, who would presumably be back for the rematch.

They're good, clearly the best team this season. They aren't unbeatable...

I agree They aren't unbeatable but they have up there game like a lot of other teams, So Fudd is not gonna save UConn right now they only play 5 bring Fudd back that`s 6 still not enough firepower to beat SC ?. And let`s cancel out Ducharme she is still concussion protocol and will stay there for the rest of the season i think. And if she do play i see her as none a factor.

Lordt!

I've heard reigning National Player of the Year Aliyah Boston is a decent center, but then I suppose it's possible that I and millions of others could be wrong.
