i agree and How was Westbrook ranked ahead of her is beyond belief !
Why this incessant need to compare these prize recruits, generally one at the expense of the other.
The LVs are lucky to have both. The demands of being a PG are quite different from those of other positions.
I know exactly what is up with Westbrook and it is an adjustment phase.
As a high schooler, she had several years of being about to make those no-look, thread the needle passes in almost all situations because the level of competition is generally lower than college. At this level, players are bigger, faster, and have better scouting.
Westbook is a like a QB who does not read disguised defenses very well and winds up throwing into double coverage. Sometimes the pass gets completed but sometimes you get interceptions.
So, I would have hoped that she would be a better at this aspect of the game at this point in the season.
It is a tough call for a coach. You don't want to straightjacket your play makers and Westbrook's differentiating talent is her ability to see the pass option, in a split second, that others don't but in shorter term, a much greater emphasis needs to be placed on ball security.
And Hayes also turns the ball over more than you would like to see, so the problem is not just Evina. And meme throwing the ball into the stands on a key possessions does not help.
Holly called it, they need to stop going for the Home run ball on every play. What differentiates great players from "also rans " is the ability to know when to swing for the fences or when to play more cautiously. For our freshman PGs, that will come with experience.
